Went to the Summer Fun Day today and I saw that many of the science exhibits were broken on the first floor. They took the entire basement technology and engineering stuff out and replaced it with art and acting areas downstairs. The middle lobby area ball clock was no longer working and the upstairs art area has some work basically dedicated to Satan ( for real) that looks like some crap you'd see written in a gas station bathroom...f*ck, sh1t were written there several time for "art" purposes. They don't recommend you take your kids in that area. What a complete joke! What happened to that place?

I don't know who is running it but they should be embarrassed at hosting a family fun day event to attract new members and having so many things broken. And then having taking out so much science and replacing it with "arts" type stuff. In a state where education in science and technology is so badly needed and they are doing this....it's crazy and sad at the same time.

Years ago I joined because I wanted o support a "family" oriented educational place. I was offended when a snotty mom apologized to a foreign mom for the "kids from Southern WV" who were there on a field trip. "It's not usually like this" she said. I have
The place a shot again this past May, taking my 4th grade daughter there for an end-of-school educational trip. The "art" exhibit was offensive and disgusting, the exhibits were either old and tired or replaced by
Garbage downstairs. I won't
Be back. I am the one now embarrassed at this Charleston eyesore. Waste of $$

I stopped going two years ago for similar reasons. I won't even attend a concert there anymore.

It's poor management. When their fundraising starts to drop off, you'll see a change.

I've joined twice over the last few years for something to take my kids to. Never going to make that mistake again. All activities there have additional costs. The hours are horrible! They close every day at 5pm and are closed Mon. and Tues. How is anybody that works supposed to be able to take their kids?? And they are closed every holiday you can think of, you know the days when families are actually looking for something to do!

I highly recommend the local libraries if you have young kids and want something to do. Their programs are free, the staff much more friendly and educated. The Clay Center is a rip off in every since of the term.

This place has been mismanaged from the very beginning. But now that the money cushion they depended on from the Clay Foundation has stopped, it's REALLY gone down hill. The people working there are elitist and ignorant and don't care about educating the children in science or art. It's like their own little country club. I miss the museum at Sunrise. It may have been just as bad, but I always felt welcome there as a kid and always had a great time.

I adored sunrise as a child. My parents took us to see the different Xmas trees from around the world every year and then we's tour the entire place. It was a great childhood memory.

What's that got to do with the multimillion dollar supposed state of the art facility crumbling from within? Those kids didn't do that. Someone needs to ask real questions. Maybe southern WV's are running The Clay Center? Is that what you're trying to say? I doubt it but you're not too smart either by not staying on point. Hey look there's goes some beer and porn...go fetch.

i bet the southern WV kids would like some beer and porn. 99% will grow up to be on welfare and other gov money. Let them have beer and porn to bring some sort of happiness
