How many serious and/or fatal wrecks will it take to motivate law makers to enact laws and codes prohibiting the use of motorcycles on highways and bikes on roadways? Keep your toys off the roads, it's dangerous for everyone involved and a huge drain on the taxpayers!

My motorcycle costs 3 times your car. I have a license and training to ride it. How about you slow down and quit driving 90 mph . Most accidents come from car drivers not being careful!

That is odd. I have been riding since I was bout 12 yrs old and I am now 71. Didn't realize I was a drain on anyone. I served my country honorably for 26 yrs. and have always ridden motorcycles without an accident. If there is a drain on Society you must be looking in the mirror. If you can't see a motorcycle on the highway you shouldn't be driving. I agree with you on bicycles.

Perhaps the person starting this post would like to show up at Rainelle, Wv. on 23 may and tell about 600 veterans they should be outlawed from riding on the major roadways or better yet on 26 May show up at the Pentagon on the morning of 26 May and tell 650,000 Veterans what you think about them riding on the major roadways. They will have a trailer set up with speakers where you can be heard.

How about you pay attention to what you're doing while behind the wheel of a vehicle!?!

Don't eat, don't talk on your phone, or text, or fight with your kids in the backseat!! Maybe idiot "cage drivers" are the ones who need to be kept off of the road!!

You're CLEARLY a hazard to other motorists...and a drain on society as a whole!!!

The State police should issue tickets for talking on the phone while driving.

What?!? It is only dengerous when YOU aren't paying attention, which from this post, you seem to like to multi task while driving.... And look at statistics, there are far more vehicle vs vehicle crashes compared to motorcycle crashes, I am almost guaranteed at least one crash everyday on my drive from cross lanes to belle, or back. How about outlawing idiot drivers? Sounds better to me!

I didn't say other motorists don't present dangers on the roadways as well. The problem is motorcycles are inherently dangerous. A pebble is not going to cause my car to careen out of control and wet surfaces are another issue altogether. How in the hell does your military service even enter into this equation? Most accidents with motorcycles are NOT caused by automobiles, look it up man. The drain I the taxpayers statement was alluding to he fact that motorcycles, on major highways, present an unnecessary hazard to everyone involved. Joyriding on a bike is obviously a passion for some people and I never said that wasn't a good thing. My point was simply they should be relegated to roadways with slower speed limits and far less traffic. Safer for everyone.
You dicks who think I need to get on a stage and announce some shit to a bunch of posers and wanna be outlaws, need to check yourselves. I didnt say you shouldnt be able to ride to raise money and awareness for honorable causes.
This is topix, a forum to express opinions and have healthy debates not a place to make thinly veiled threats to someone who has a point of view which opposes yours.

um, I don't drive 90 mph. If you are intimidated by inexpensive fast cars, then you probably shouldn't be on i64. Ever. I drive out of necessity to get to where I need to go. I ride MY toys off road. Like a real man.

I still don't see how you rationalize a motorcycle as a "drain on taxpayers"? Because you don't want to have to pay attention while driving? A "pebble" will not not send a motorcycle to an incontrollable slide. Unless you are riding 150 MPH in a corner, I can tell by your responses that you have likely never even ridden a street bike of any kind.

Motorcycles inherently stay upright while moving, they are actually safer at higher speeds than slow ones because of the gyroscope effects of the wheels spinning and the engine turning, you couldn't push a bike over at 70 if you wanted to....

So do all of us that DO rides motorcycles a favor, look twice before you switch lanes, because it is the idiots that dont, are the ones that cause accidents, and by all means keep YOUR toys on the dirt.

Or I could just act like a grown up and voice my concerns to the legislature. That wouldn't really be funny or entertaining though.

Motorcycle=a bicycle with a low powered motor. Always has been, always will be. Why don't you just ride a Vespa?

You may find this enlightening... Again i say, just pay attention she you drive!!!!!

?According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, head-on collisions account for more than half of all fatal motorcycle accidents in the United States. These crashes almost always involve a passenger vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle is usually at fault. Since itís more difficult for a car driver to see a motorcyclist, the risk of head-on collision where the car driver is at fault is more likely.

The next factor that causes is motorcycle accidents is vehicles making left-hand turns. These types of accidents are responsible for close to 42% of motorcycle fatalities. Typically, a vehicle making a left-hand turn will crash into a motorcyclist thatís driving straight through an intersection, trying to get past the vehicle faster than it can turn. Most vehicles making a left-hand turn that results in an accident will be at fault?

This again proves your ignorance toward motorcyces, the power to weight ratio of a motorcycle blows away most vehicles.... My bike for instance weight 405lbs. Totally full, which makes it 620lbs with me on it.... And it has 191hp. That power to weight far outshines most 4 wheeled vehicles on the road.....

Dude, I do drive safely. And I always check for other vehicles, of any type. Last thing in the world anyone wants is to cause someone any type of harm. And i disagree with the pebble statement. there are countless incidents where rocks on the road surface have caused horrible wrecks and even fatalities. It's a fact jack. You're only on two wheels and have nothing to protect you when these things happen. I can ride the piss out of a bike, but I just won't do it on the road. That's by choice because I know it is dangerous, not because I'm some sort of a pussy.
I suppose my main point about taxpayers was that we shouldn't have to bear the burden of cleaning up accidents caused by someone's hobby. I think irresponsible drives of automobiles are a drain on taxpayers as well, but there are laws in effect aimed at addressing those issues. I don't really know how some people in this forum have turned his into an issue about whose toys are more expensive and who has been in the service. I knew this would be a hot topic that's why I posted it, but there's really no valid counterpoint as far as I can tell.

Wow, power to size ratio huh? Why not just ride around on an ant then? They are way more powerful than cars and mopeds/scooters/motorcycles.
Ill show you why your other data isn't relevant here in a second. I gotta work now.
