What makes you say that the USA was founded on christian belief? Yes, many of our founders were christian, but many were also deist wich is far,far different than christianity. Some were also atheist/agnostic. If they intended us to be a christian nation, why did the not just say so in the constitution. Why did they write "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" in the 1st amendment? Many countries establish their religion in the constitution, but not here.
Why in the Treaty of Tripoli did they say "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen [Muslims],—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Muslim] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries." There ya go, spelled out and ratified by the vast majority of the Senate in 1797.
Our laws and the laws of the bible are just based on earlier laws codes and traditions. See Hammurabi's code for a much earlier than christianity look at the subject.
I do not demand anything, I simply speak my beliefs, as is my right. I do not expect christians or anyone else to not speak theirs. They have an opinion and so do I.
You'd certainly need to show me what I got defensive about. Giving my opinion on a subject is not defensive.
I deal with something traumatic, the same as everyone else. By myself, I just don't have a placebo.
Well YFNA, I cant explain what Christ is to me, it is something that is felt. You will never understand until you experience it for yourself. It is apparent that I am not going to be able to convenience you that he does exist, just as you are not able to convenice me that he does not. I am so sorry for that. You are missing out on a love that is uncomparable to any. I will still pray for you though :) Hope you have a good day and God shows you a blessing. You make a very good arguement for people who have no faith, but I have faith and Christ, I will never be conveninced other wise. The references you are using, are just words created by man, not the truth, just as you probably see the bible.
Two more questions though lol:
If you want the US to stop making laws based on "CHRISTIANS BELIEFS" because it is not what you believe, are you not asking us Christians to do the same for you. To stop pressing for laws for our beliefs just because they are not what you believe?Atheist are a form of religon as well...

AND AGAIN... YFNA? Gonna tell me what that stands for?

You are assuming I was never a believer. I was. The feelings you describe, most other religions report the same things.

What laws am I asking to be made? Am I asking for christianity to be banned?

Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair color or like not collecting stamps is a hobby. Atheism is simply a lack of belief in a god or gods and if you attach anything further to it than that, you are mistaken.

In post # 91 you state
" Most I have zero problems at all with. Its the ones that want to shove their religion down your throat, or worse, have it enforced by the laws of the US, that I take issue with. Believe what you will, just keep it in your home and your churches"
that is what I was referring too.
If you believed, what happened to make you change that belief?

I grew up. I developed critical thinking skills. I applied them to other religions. I applied them to mine. I realized there was zero difference.

You must have miss read. He didnt call it a hair color. Re-read the post. You will probably get it after a second read.

You dont just 'grow up" and stop believing. I am going to guess you went to church as a child, which is a great thing, but it was your parents decision to attend and you went with them. When you became a little older, something happened and you formed your own oppinion. If you truly believed, there would be no other reason for you to just stop believing, I am going to guess something tramatic happened. I could be wrong, but I am going to go with that.

You would be wrong. Sorry, it did happen just as I said and my story is not unique among atheists.

Also, I'd like to say you've been very nice in our little "debate". On Topix, politeness is practically a superpower, especially when discussing religion.

Thanks!! you too...I try not to judge people just because they may be different than me. Its hard sometimes lol, I am only human, but I have learned that you never know what a person is dealing with in their life to make them the way they are. Not meaning you, just people in general. And for me to judge you or anyone, or develope a "Topix I know all" attitude, without knowing you personally, would just be arrogant. You interest me. The fact that I dont understand, and no offense, I am glad I dont, but that you dont believe in MY LORD AND SAVIOUR, makes me curious as to why. I cant imagine life without God. It is just hard for me to understand. So, with that said.. I will still be praying for you, "YA NERD"... lol j/k about the nerd part.
