I was at mardi gras tonight, playing blackjack and let me run a scenario by those of you who play;

Dealer has a 6 showing, I have a soft 16. I doubled on the soft 16 and the guy beside me said you never double any soft hand on a 5,6,7.
Now, I'm from NY an spent many a weekend in AC. I ALWAYS doubled a soft 15,16,17 and hard 9,10,11.

Who would you think was right? It's not a big deal, but it is kind of bugging me.

You are right.
I'd double on a soft 18 as well.

I don't play black jack - but this is the answer consistently given when Googling: When you have a soft-15 or a soft-16 you should double-down against a dealers 4, 5 and 6. You should hit against everything else.
When you have a soft-17, double-down against a dealers 3, 4, 5 and 6, hit against everything else.

I m not a player and have a stupid question. What is the soft or hard referring to?
A soft hand is an ace plus a card. The ace is either worth 1 or 11.

Guy was wrong, you are right. I used to live in Philly and would head to AC at least 2-3 times a week after work.

@jiki...yeah I miss AC.
I lived in Philly for a few years. I'm a New Yorker, but the Flyers are my hockey team. Miss seeing them.

Yep, I'd take the train down - cheaper than driving. Bring the coupons to eat, have a buffet, and play blackjack for about an hour or 2 before taking the train back to 30th st. Good times.

Hubby said both were right, it's just a personal preference.
