Where does this mind set come from? Even after many men are divorced they still think they have some sort of claim to their ex wife. A woman does not come with a deed or a title. A woman is not something you constantly refer to in ghird person as "MY wife"...They aren't to be traded or sold. This is America, not some third world country where this way of thinking prevails. So "your wife" filed for divorce?? It's her choice. She isn't a pet registered with the county. Many men with this mindset end up divorced, them blame someone else, harass their ex, stalk them... All the while putting up the "good Christian" persona... Most judges see right through this BS...

Men are not the only ones who have that same kind of mindset. There's plenty of women i know who have that same kind of mindset and do the same things your accusing all the men of doing!

I totally agree with everything you said here except the "my wife" part. I don't think when a guy says that he means it as possessive.. at least i don't.... When I say things like that its just expressing "my other half" because she truly completes me.....

I have dealt with a lot of the types of guys you are speaking of in my time, but I wouldn't catagorize every male that says"my wife" or "my girlfriend" as a possessive person.....

Your right, it's appropriate in introductions, etc... I should have clarified its the ones who CONSTANTLY refer to them in this way..like they have no name, are interchangeable, etc.. It's all about them. Yes I do agree there are many women just the same, maybe even just as much. Their the ones that try and stall, fight, and never respect the divorce...

I agree again... I refer to her as "my wife" or "my better half" amongst people that do not know her or don't know her very well.... Amongst friends, I always refer to her by name.....

Receiving a marriage license and obtaining a civil union actually makes two people married. It is when you have a religious ceremony that the two agree on the terms of Holy matrimony. Here the bible dictates the responsibilities of the Wife. This is when the Wife becomes the property of the Husband. When the Bride says I do, she agrees to be subordinate to the Husband till death do they part. Under the religious decree, the Wife has no property rights or any legal rights. This is also where the rule of thumb comes in. Belief in the existence of a "rule of thumb" law to excuse spousal abuse can be traced as far back as 1782. By law a Husband could not beat his Wife with a stick larger than the diameter of his thumb. Did I mention that a Wife should walk three paces behind her Husband? This religious custom does not apply in the Middle-East, the Wife walks three paces in front of the Husband, Land Mines.

Jack, this is 2013... In case you didn't realise, this isn't biblical times anymore, heck in a lot of families, the woman is the bread winner.. the concept of a spouse being "property" is so old fashioned and outdated

That's nothing more than blind bigotry and prejudice talking and not the words of someone who thinks clearly and is rational. Its really very sad there are people of your ilk who hold on to these old useless mores and refuse to adapt to current times. If everyone had a mindset like yours, we'd still be living in caves and eating raw meat.

What is it with you bleeding heart types and thinking that every man wants to chain a woman up in the kitchen and force her to have babies for 20 years straight? Guess what? I am a white male, my political views lean a bit to the right, and oh my goodness I have never abused or tried to control a woman in my entire life. I never forced one to have my babies either. Can you imagine that? It is easy to see things in black and white. It is easy to just shove a whole group of people into one category in your mind. But that just doesn't apply to real life, not at all.

Remember, the U.S. Constitution and Amendments did not only freed the Slaves, it also freed Women from the chains of Biblical bondage. If you follow the teachings of the Bible, a Woman is no less than a slave or concubine. By the teaching of the Bible, Women are right up there with Goats, maybe not that high.
This is why religious organizations and the Republican Party hates our U.S. Constitution and love the Jew bible.

I barely mentioned my views in passing. Nit picking a tiny little statement out of my whole post and attacking me for it is a douche move. Also my "rant" is not offbase in a thread titled "my wife is my property". Suck it.

I know a few husbands and wives who don't follow those rules except for the beating part, i don't know any married men who beats their wives. Does that mean they're going to hell?

Yep, the bible makes it very clear, god hates women and puts little value on them. It's part of the problem in our "christian" nation.

YHWH also said not to eat of the animals of the earth.
And YHWH said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
I have given every green herb for meat; and it was so.
