The school and educational system is only going to get worse and worse as time goes on. Discipline wains to the point of being a laughing matter. Who wouldn't want to get expelled from school? It's just a vacation to most students.

In an average class of about 25 students, you will find about 18-19 honest to goodness excellent and respectful students. The others unfortunately are downright rude, disrespectful, and probably should be horsewhipped. But with that set of students, one often hears "My little angel would NEVER act that way. What are you doing to cause them to act that way?" A COMPLETE JOKE! Many parents are benign to the fact that their child/children ARE NOT the "little angel" that they think they are!

And unfortunately too, money is a major factor that plays into education; especially at the high school level. I know of one case in particular where a George Washington HS student was caught with pharmaceutical drugs in his locker along with another student that was purchasing the said drugs from said student. According to my knowledge, both of these students should have been expelled from school for the remainder of the school year immediately after this situation happened. Interestingly enough, both students ended up getting a lawyer involved and were back at school within the period of 2 weeks. This is simply pathetic!

What is the educational system coming to? I am direly afraid for the future of my young infant children that have yet to be a part of this debacle. Matters are only going to get worse as teachers have less influence and discipline power within the classroom and students become more unruly and more disrespectful.

Now I do understand what you are saying, but I believe that this is solely talking about teachers!! I do believe that they should be tested!!! Subs should be tested more so, and I say this cause a regular teacher parents are around that teacher all the time. On the other hand a sub comes and go, I WANT TO KNOW THAT MY KIDS ARE SAFE!!! Which I mean these subs we are taking chances with!!

Always looking to blame the teachers, eh? Never a problem with the parents or economics!:|

It's unconstitutional to drug test teachers. Read the 4th amendment. The government needs probable cause, and to get a warrant, before they go searching and seizing. How is randomly searching everyone for a substance or substances using probable cause? its not. Now, private companies have gotten away with this for a few decades, and some may argue that that is also unconstitutional. But for the government to start randomly drug testing teachers, clearly they would be violating the 4th amendment.

no it is not unconstitutional to test teachers. it has been thru the supreme court. . the 4th admendment does not prvent the testing whjere the safety of others is involved. it is just like gun back ground checks. teachers and parents are to blame on our kids. but the 20 % of low life no teach draw a pay check teachers are coming to an end and the great other 80 % should be happy about that. if not get another career

Well then you have to test them on every single mind altering drug, whether legal or not. Who is to say that an antidepressant, or a pain pill, or an anti anxiety pill doesn't affect a person's performance? If you are going to make drug testing a standard, then include ALL drugs.

But this argument is a ruse. You may have a handful of teachers who underperform based on what they are injecting into their bodies, but the problem with our schools do not lie here. Problems come from over testing (that private testing companies PUSH and PROFIT off of), high administrative costs, lack of parent involvement, and students who live in poverty. We never want to address those issues, no we just want to blame the teachers more...who can only do so much.

I applaud teachers. There was a time when parents and teachers worked together and teachers were considered professionals. Teachers unions are part of the last front of unionization in this country which is why you have efforts from private companies and a$$hats like Michelle Rhee who are trying to convince you teachers are the sole problem.

Way to address not a single issue. I'll assume you would rather arm a teacher too.

I don't see how this is debatable, yes they should be drug tested. I've been told about teachers in certain districts going to their cars to smoke. Its a shame. I think the only good teacher in the profession are those from my family.
