So you promoted your news switch to HD today and I watched. But I will going back to my usual WCHS & WSAZ tomorrow. The new male anchor is awful. While the female anchor was talking (April is her name I think) he kept talking off camera making comments about the rain
which had nothing to do with what April was talking about. Why are the 2 anchors sitting six feet apart ? It looks so odd like they were fighting and someone separated them. Yes we had a lot of rain this week but EVERY story started out talking about the rain such as: Even with the rain, Camdem Park opened today......The rain didn't keep these people from walking today for charity.......The rain didn't stop the KY Derby today....Okay we get it IT RAINED TODAY.. You'll acted like it was the first rain southern WV had in 100 years. Why don't you'll just do away with your local newscast and play reruns of The Beverly Hillbillies, you would probably have better ratings. Why not Decision Makers, it is the best comedy show on tv.

The set looked too big and the anchors looked like the muppets with only their heads sticking above the desk. They could broadcast from a studio made of gold and still get no respect or viewers from the tri state. They have done so much damage to the viewers by not covering news from Ohio & Kentucky and closing their Huntington office and so many employees losing their jobs.

Now that their news is in HD, we can see their shitty news even clearer.

You hillbillies are too much. You should be thankful you even have tv up there in Wrong Turn country. Try to bring a little news and information from the outside world and you just go nuts. Watch, listen and learn. You may be able to spell and write someday and get a job.

There are people there working VERY hard to improve the station. If you have specific concerns
please address them to the station's email address.

The station had long been made fun of for terrible news coverage and not taking part in
community events. A move to Charleston isn't going to make them number one overnight. And what they did to their Huntington office and staff is a public relations nightmare that they will never recover from. I am sure there are a lot of hard working people in the company wanting to be a successful tv station but it will never happen until the station is sold to a company that knows how to run a business. And do any of the upper management even watch any of the newscast ? They are painful to watch which is why they have the lowest ratings in the market.

I think the reason no one watches their news is that they are hours or days behind in the news. I wonder if they watch the other tv station news to get the news that they report. If channel 3 and 8 report on a meth lab bust on Monday during the noon news, 13 reports it on Tuesdy at 6pm. That anchor lady, which I cannot stand, will say it is a story you will only see on 13 news. Yes she is correct, a story you will only see on 13 news on a Tuesday because everyone else saw it on Monday on the other station. this is just the reason I think no one will watch their news.

I think no one watches their news cause it is used over & over again. What I mean is I can watch their 11pm news on a Monday night and every story I watched is repeated on Tuesday during each newscast. It won't be till 11pm news on Tuesday that we see something new. I quit watching their news several months ago when we were having all the tornados in our area. They were issuing tornado watches for areas that had just been leveled by a tornado. They were about an hour behind the storm.

LMAO! You are so ignorant. I hope you live in a nice "special needs" home. Now go pet your kitty and try to put together that challenging 10 piece puzzle. If you're really well behaved, maybe your caregiver will let you color a picture later! Hag is such a special sloth :) Awwwww

It does take a lot of time and effort to set up all that technical stuff and to train a crew to run it. WOWK has improved the look of their station a lot with the move to HD. Years ago WOWK actually made a good run at WSAZ and had ratings lead in metro counties but not in the whole area.
Then they pulled the plug on spending and the whole thing crashed. WOWK has a lot of unfilled jobs on their web site. Perhaps you have some of the skills they need to bring the station back.

. I agree, they pulled the plug on spending and the whole thing crashed. But it is going to take more than HD to save them. Instead of spending the money years past to be a strong number two in the market, they are now spending triple the money to remain third and have no chance of ever being number two and will never see the day they beat WSAZ. WSAZ has a great relationship with the Marshall School of Journalism where alot of these students got their start at WSAZ before moving on to larger markets. Being in Huntington, this gave MU students the opportunity to work at the station as interns between classes, evenings & weekends. With WOWK having the bulk of their news department in Charleston, they will not be able to take advantage of the outstanding journalism students. None of them are going to drive to Charleston for a non paid internship. I have heard that things are really bad at 13, but they are somewhat better off than their stations in Beckley, Clarksburg and Wheeling. It's sad that a once wonderful and community orientated station had been ran down so bad.

Things have always been bad at 13.
I predict total consolidation of the whole shebang in Berlin with 13.

Knew someone who worked there that was from a wealthy Huntington family who wanted to sit back and watch the going ons and maybe buy the place but they told me it was a lost cause and would take 20 years for the investment to pay off and not worth the trouble.

I think they look like a brand new station. New talent. Used to watch 8. Never thought I would switch but they're coverage is better now.

april kaul has to be one of the worst reporters ever she really should not be seen on camera their is an aesthetic issue to be considered and she can not talk without moving her head and then she must think to talk she has to move her right hand pointing as if to emphasize some topic . i have ask the station why do you come on the air at 5.58 instead of 6.00 thier answer was we do not want to be the last local ststion to come on the aie with news .how stupid is that iask if wchs would come on at 5.56 would they come on at 5.55 and they said yes .what mentality is that. look at how many times they talk about weather they told me that they took a survey and most people wanted to know about weather surely not but they have to bring it up 5 to 6 times in their newscast and then all of our local hick stations think for some dramatic effect they need to send thier weather people outside to give a forecast .come on now.that is sosilly to think we just cant look out our windshield or front window to see what is going on STOP sending people out side so stupid to think like that.most every newscast the reporters will look and talk to each other on camera and have a folksy laughing comment session with each other instesd of looking in the camera and talk to the viewers we need to hear news from around the state and the world not just about ahouse fire or car wreck and once they tell of a story tell it no more than 2 times not 6 times a day for 2 weeks if you watch the news from 13 what they say at 4.30 in the morning you have to hear the same crap all day all night and then again the next morning please we need changes

Whoever they hired to do a survey that showed that what small amount of viewers they have wanted more weather reports needs to be fired. A car runs into the Kanawha River, half a city block burns down, a man found dead, a child is missing and they start the newscast with weather. I have about 20 windows in my house. I can walk over and see that it is sunshine or raining. I don't watch morning news for someone to tell me how hot it is outside every 10 minutes. That April lady needs to have her hands duct taped together. She waves them around like she is conducting an orchestra. I am Facebook friends with several of their staff members and even they make fun & slam their station. I would be fired on the spot if my employer saw bad things posted about the company on my Facebook profile. I wish they would drop their 5pm thru 630pm news and air sitcoms . They would finally attract some viewers.

which staff members slam the station? If you have suggestions, direct them to [email protected] The majority of the staff are brand new. I am there because I am from West Virginia and believe in the people I work with, otherwise I would have never signed on. Weather before breaking news is something o the past as of very recently. But thanks for watching, anyway.
