Which company appears to be the best in the valley for homeowner's insurance? I am new to the area and would like any suggestions and/or advice. Thanks.

It appears after 3 small claims over a span of 3 1/2 years for food loss and tree removal all related to storm damage and power outages lasting a week or longer, I have been dropped by ERIE Insurance. May not want to choose that company. They will also have you doing the work of the adjuster. Isn't that what we pay them for? Erie is nothing but a scam. They only want to insure you if you never file any claims whatsoever.

Not looking for handouts at all. Like other West Virginians, I am sick and tired of being without power for weeks at a time. I understand it is not the fault of the insurance companies, however, when I pay into the system for years on end without any claims and especially any significant ones, I DO EXPECT compensation for food loss and tree debris removal. I think most people would. 1st power outage---out 10 days and lost everything, 2nd out 7 days, 3rd out 7 days. Uncalled for and unnecessary. When you lose $800 worth of food from 2 freezers and refrigerators and 2 of the 3 times have just bought food for holiday meals, that gets expensive really quick. Not to mention staying in a hotel while you don't have power and water and eating out for 7 days 2 meals a day adds up. Someone should be held responsible. It certainly isn't my fault the power companies are going under.

Furthermore, I live in a rural area where my only choice of food is healthy cooking or fast food. Therefore, I generally keep a little more than milk and cheese in my fridges. Typical grocery bill at Krogers is $400 every 2 weeks supplemented by Walmart and Sam's. I was very conservative in my claims and could have claimed a lot more. Being the fair individual that I am, I did not do so. Times are hard, alot of people do not expect handouts. But, who has the ultimate responsibility here?? Does it lie with the utility companies?? Should every homeowner install a $10,00 natural gas generator large enough to power all the itmes needed to live for a week? Seems to me like the times of the individual American compensating for large corporations are over. We must take a stand or continue to be run over. I for one will start by appealing the Insurance Comission and by letting all friends and family know what a joke ERIE INSURANCE is. It may be the cheapest. But ask yourself, is cheapest always best???

I have had Erie for over twenty years with no issues. However, after my second claim I invested in a Natural Gas Generator to prevent or limit a third loss. Also, remember to NEVER consider calling ABOUT ANYTHING, if it is going to be over the cost of your deductible. An "Inquiry" is considered the same as a claim for ANY Insurance Company.
