Power Lines on the Boulevard?

Does anyone know why they seem to be digging up the underground power lines on the Boulevard between the Moose Club & the tire shop?

They've constructed poles with pulley systems at the top, and seem to have dug up everything in between each of them.

They've had problems with the old underground system near there for years. I heard a while back that the city had planned on extending the sidewalk portion of the Blvd. all the way up to the Moose on that side as well as clean up the bank and plant flowers, etc. similar to the way it is down toward the capitol and onward. If that's the case, they may be preparing to move it all above ground, which is a lot cheaper, or just preparing to put up temporary lines and relocate underground after.

Anytime! That's the only problem with having power, or any utilities underground. It costs a lot more to do in terms of labor and hardware than people think. Until they make conduit much thicker and bullet proof, you're going to run into trouble of it deteriorating after a while, thus causing problems and it would have to be all dug up again.

I wondered how they went about that in this area, it doesn't seem that we have a very elaborate system of underground access. My mind was blown when I saw them digging them up!! I always assumed they were run through the sewage/drainage systems!!

Nope. Most main underground electric you'll find buried around here are mostly in the middle or close to downtown in the cities or only in newer developments.

I have been able to see what they've done now and it's not on the river side of the road. They're finally getting light poles installed on the railroad side in that area of the Blvd.!

They installed the poles over the last couple of weeks. I go through there twice a day. There are two reasons I thought they were digging up lines; Rather than just dig the "post hole", for lack of a better term, they dug up between them too & there seem to be little pulley systems at the top. I figured conduit line would be heavy, so they'd have to hoist it up?

I reckon I'm wrong though, because they filled where they dug, but there are still no lines. Heh

The digging between them is where the line for the wire will go to feed up into them for power.
