Yeah its not like the ever more stringent EPA and government regulations which the Obama administration largely supports have anything at all to do with the loss of coal industry jobs.

Face it the coal wasnt going to last forever. Just be happy a smart guy like Obama cares about you and you're familys health. Coal jobs are dangerous and 1000's die each year world wide. Coal is also causing the weather to change and now the ice at the poles is melting and making the oceans rise which will kill all of us.

These are serious problems you should take into account before saying such selfish things.

I think the only one inbred here is you brother in washington.....your sister and daddy did it and made you just to continue the welfare/handout cycle....admit it that's the only reason you like barry soetero (BO's real name) so you can just sit at home eating government cheese and collecting them food stamps instead of having to work for a living like the rest of us!

How did the President cause this? MTR removes jobs....cutting back workers to make more money removes jobs.

The Muskingum River coal-fired power plant in Ohio is nearing the end of its life. AEP, one of the country’s biggest coal-based utilities, says it will cut 159 jobs when it shuts the decades-old plant in three years — sooner than it would like — because of new rules from the Environmental Protection Agency.

About an hour’s drive north, the life of another power plant is just beginning. In Dresden, Ohio, AEP has hired hundreds to build a natural-gas-fueled plant that will employ 25 people when it starts running early next year — and that will emit far fewer pollutants.

The two plants tell a complex story of what happens when regulations written in Washington ripple through the real economy. Some jobs are lost. Others are created. In the end, say economists who have studied this question, the overall impact on employment is minimal.

“If you’re a coal miner in West Virginia, it’s not a great comfort that a bunch of guys in Texas are employed doing natural gas,” said Roger Noll, an economics professor at Stanford and co-director of the university’s program on regulatory policy.“Some people identify with the beneficiaries, others identify with those who bear the cost, and no amount of argument is ever going to change their minds.”

The arguing has lately turned into a brawl. In the face of the country’s unemployment crisis, many politicians have portrayed regulations as the economy’s primary villain.

House Republicans have identified 10 “job-destroying regulations” they want to repeal, and a steady stream of bills have been proposed to block environmental rules governing everything from cement plants to boilers. GOP candidate Mitt Romney has vowed that on his first day as president, he will “tear down the vast edifice of regulations the Obama administration has imposed on the economy.” The White House, meanwhile, says it is making a determined effort to assess how rules are affecting jobs.

The critique of regulations fits into a broader conservative narrative about government overreach. But it also comes after a string of disasters in recent years that were tied to government regulators falling short, including the financial crisis of 2008, the BP oil spill and the West Virginia mining accident last year.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that very few layoffs are caused principally by tougher rules.

It's profits and natural gas replacing coal...hence, fracking. If you guys would know the real answers, and lay off the hatred fed to you by preacher men and the right wing pundits, you could better prepare yourselves for new work. But you'd rather bitch and moan about the black guy and feed the hatred your preacher man gives you.

First you want free market...then you want the government to intervene...what is it? Because a clean environment does NOT kill children..and aren't you interested in that?

It's funny how that when this nation was in it's most dire needs after what Bush put us through and it was just months, if not sooner, from total collapse the American people turned to a BLACK man to help turn it around. After his next four years and all is said and done Barack Hussein Obama may very well go down as the greatest President this nation has ever had.

And don't think for a minute that the rest of the world hasn't taken notice. As racist as most Whites in this country are, they're now bowing down to an African American, because they need his guidance and leadership.

It amazes me how some (most here in WV) blame the current President for our own demise we have allowed by pretty much giving companies the green light to rape. ravage and pillage as they want while our unions and voices have been removed. It is time to wake up and point the responsibility and accountability fingers where they belong---with the corporate officials, shareholders, even many of our own government officials who side with them due to the MAJOR contributions they receive. We have a lack of leadership in these organizations and nothing but millionaires running them with a personal agenda. It doesn't matter who is president, this will continue and get worse.

Wow! You're off your rocker, the greatest president?? What are you smoking?? America turned to the president, not a BLACK man!! Where are the jobs going to come from when the coal industry is finally shut down?? Obama is going to go down in history for sure, he'll have the highest unemployment rate!! My husband makes a little over $4,000/month and even if he got the highest pay on unemployment, we'd barley be paying the bills!!! Obama SUCKS!!

That is so true...higher corporate taxes and tough labor and environmental laws will remove those "get rich quick, profits over people" corporations and replace them with owners looking to keep the mines going for a while with the same workers.

So in other word the president sucks because your husband is an unskilled worker and can't make the same money after the current economic shift. Well whoopee freakin do! Maybe you should have taken some of those big paydays and invested in some training or education that would have applied somewhere besides underground. You morons have tunnel vision, but in all fairness at least your husband has the excuse that he is used to working in underground tunnels. What's your excuse?

No, Reagan has the HIGHEST rate of 10.7% when he began creating the monopolies we now have.

Too bad you put in the anti-union president under Bush, huh? Stole those wages from the miners to make Blankenship rich...self-inflicted low wages there...but at least your preacher man is proud of you for putting the anti-American worker republicans in office, right?

Excuse me?? My excuse? For what, not working?? I have a disabled child at home and before you say ANYTHING, we get NO help because my husband makes too much. And he does have other skills moron, but there are no jobs that pay as much as the coal mines. Why would you want to use your skills to get a less paying job?? Makes no sense, but when he does get laid off he has those skills to fall back on. And wtf are you talking about with the underground tunnels?? Call me stupid if you want, but I don't get that one. And the big paychecks have go into our house add ons & upgrades so if we do have to sell our home, we can get a lot more out of it than what we paid.

If you read my post right, I said he would go down I history for that, when all the mines are shut down. His term isn't over yet so no one knows what the rate will be when he is done. Nice job trying to sound smart though!:)

So basically you are saying that you deserve more money than other people do even though you don't work and your husband won't be able to find a job once he loses his mining job? Oh and only a moron would be investing their money into a home instead of into a money making career. The housing market blows and your home won't have any value when there aren't any jobs near there. Sounds like you guys blow your money on an over inflated lifestyle instead of investing towards your future.
