Mountaineer Beauty College in St Albans is good. My son just graduated from there and loved their program. Good Luck!

Carver is hands down the best. I graduated from there in 09 and when I took state boards I watched people from other schools (charleston school of beauty particularly) crumble because they had no knowledge. They are also currently being sued for overpaid tuition and know from several people that you do not learn the things you need to pass state boards. Mountaineer is also good but from personal experience I would say carver. They also have board there so you will be in a familiar environment and will be less stress on you. Good luckthough! Beauty school is a LOT of bookwork so be prepared!

I have to agree,Carver is the best...I have worked with stylists from all the local schools, and Carver students definatly have more knowledge than all the rest.

Any other school in WV is better than Charleston School of Beauty Culture...ghetto nasty, dirty, no parking, rude staff, smelly, falling apart, broken elevator...ugh do not waste your $10,000 here. Other schools are better and cost half the price...don't let them rip you off!!!

Do any offer evening classes? I have to work during the day but would love to go if evening classes are offered.

Not that I know of. I've went on a tour of almost all of the beauty schools in wv and some of Ohio and all of them are mostly Tues-Sat 8am till 4pm

Don't expect an education these school are about taking your money so you can sit there and get your hours. They do not take the ducation part very seriously and it's a shame. Do your time and study on your own. If your heart is in it you will be great no matter what. Youtube and the internet in general is a great place to learn up to date info.
I went to Mountaineer Beauty School. I drove past Carver and Charleston beauty because Carver dosent get much variety of clients. Charleston is ran down and has had too any problems with fraud. Mountaineer is not shinging gem but you get lots of clients of all kinds and the place is cleaner than charleston. You also get out faster than Carver because Carver is on the Kan. County school schedule.
I've worked with girls from many schools myself. Maybe I've just met allot of the bad ones. But the Carver students I've come across are scared to death. I don't know why the confidence is not there. But they all complain of no clients and little training. I don't know if they teach fear there or what. But it's really mad me not look on the school very well the way they all act.
Best advice do your time. Get your hours. But be dedicated to doing the real learning on your own. going the extra miles matters allot in this feild.

I went to Carver. 09 as well. I wasn't scared a bit, in class, for boards or in a salon. We had plenty of customers, variety wasn't an issue...we saw it all. The instructors are extremely dedicated, intelligent and talented. Beauty school is school, not fun and games. Be prepared to work your lil tushy off! Don't waste your time nor that of the instructors if you aren't determined to make it through. Carver does take longer due to the county school schedule but the breaks definitely help. I've seen great stylists come out of all three local schools, but you'll never find 100% positive reviews to any certain one. Good luck to you!

I hear the Marinello beauty schools in Overland Park ( http://www.marinello.com/beauty-schools/kansa... ) offer solid programs. They offer externship opportunities, career services and even financial aid. That coupled with flexible class timings makes it out to be a pretty good deal, IMO. You should definitely check out their programs. They're at 62 locations, so find one close to you.

I must comment on Charleston School of Beauty Culture. I am very pleased with my education. I have both my Cosmetology and Barber License. It's like any other school you go to. You learn if you are there for that purpose. Since graduating I have my own shop and employ 6 other people. I can also name others who graduated and would refer others to Charleston School of Beauty. Oh by the way I passed my State Board Exams on the first try due to the excellent education I recieved.
