The topic is about how the welfare people are always ruining things for the people who try. I think that any hard working, decent person can see that this is just one more thing that is being taken away because those people refuse to take responsibility for their own kids and, therefore, year round school becomes necessary for them. Maybe instead of taking summers away from the good students, they should make the parents of the poorly performing students attend parenting classes in the summer. I think we would see that the classes would be full of welfare people.

The problem is not with the parents or time spent in classes, it's with the educational system and teachers in this state.

,, true to a point, it's our government and laws. About how parents and teachers can disapline are kids. I good ole fashion a$$ whooping never hurt, lotta difference in whooping and beating! Kids are taught no morals or or right from wrong anymore. And tv radio and all the Visio games don't help either. When I was a kid had plenty of butt kicking and hit a tin can out in our jungle.( childhood memories) lol. Every day

Exactly. There is no arguing that Cabell County Schools is planning to go to year round school because of the bums. They said so themselves.

Hey idiot, I see you are back. As everyone has said, there are exceptions to all classes of people, but it is mostly the bums who are bad parents and don't teach their own children. If the government would hold the bums accountable, we would not have this problem.

First of all, our teachers are very good in this state, they just don't have much to work with. If a parent is taking care of their responsibility and putting education at the top of their priority list, then it wouldn't matter what the educational system was like.
Education starts at home and it is irresponsible to think that a teacher should be the only one trying to teach someone else's child.

You are torally wrong the teachers in this state are some of the worst in the nation. This has been proven every year by the poor test scores and fabrication of test results by the schools. You keep preaching on the idea that it is the parents fault but a large percent of the parents are unable to help the kids because theywere subjected to the poor quality education system themselves.

The poor test scores are because there is no parental support, not because of bad teachers. It is very hard for a teacher to teach a child when the parents don't value school. These children come to school not wanting to learn, because of their parents, and the teachers' hands are tied if there is no support from the parents. As for the "victim parents", they should not have children if they can't properly raise them to be functional members of society. Of course, this will never happen because then they would not get their welfare checks.

I hate to say it is the teachers fault as well as the parents, as teachers practically ignore the students and send them home with 5 hours of homework for the parents to help them do if they need it, in some cases the parents have no clue on how to do the work themselfs as they are not educators and if the work isn't done they (the children) fail, now there are programs that offer free tutoring to children that need it and not just for low income families but it is not utilized. Also a lot of the time the teachers want to be the kids friend so they allow them to goof off in class and not teach them. Also teachers don't always report to the parents that the child is having problems in school and the parents find out when they get a report card in!!

I agree education does start at home as 0-5 is the time children absorb the most in life as they can only go by what's being taught at home, can't blame teachers there only parents, yes I know there is preschool and kindergaten but if a parent cannot help there children with their education at this level than they probably need to go back and get their own education!!

I believe the news said last night that yr round schools will be 9 weeks on 3 weeks off and that's not including the holidays or weekends, yes it will take the better part of the summer away from kids but with the schools systems also wanting to add 300 extra hours than it's going to be a shorter summer anyways of maybe a month, at this point they are looking at longer days or more days and this has nothing to do with income levels. I honestly think that this year round pilot program will never start as the teachers will be totally against it since it takes their vacation away as well.

What need to happen is everyone needs to stop complaining and do something the teachers and parents need to unite together to make WV a stronger state in education, as with anything this cannot be one sided. These children are our future they will be making the decisions we are now, let's just hope they are a lot smarter than we are govermentally!! Parents if you have the time volunteer at your childrens school or offer to build a after school program in which to help the children that need tutoring and make it mandatory for children that are failing semester after semester. We as parents have just as much responsibility to our childrens education as the teachers do!! However the teachers need to step up their game as well.

Sounds like soneone's jealous. If you wanted to stay home with your kids then you should have planned for that before you had them. Actually, I think your kids will probably be the ones who will get into trouble and pay you back since you are obviously a bitter, hateful person. How is it snotty for a person to want to spend time with their kids?

You forgot to change your name back. I'm not jealous, but you don't have to be such a c*nt to other people just because you don't like what the BOE is going to do.

Don't like it? MOVE!!! Year round schooling is going to be the norm, and you'll have to deal with it...or better yet, take your brat out of school & teach them yourself, since you're SO good at it.

I didn't say it was snotty to want to spend time with kids, but your attitude is snotty because you think you're better than low income families.

To stay home with your children is a privilege. Anyone who has the opportunity to do so should. However, there are households that require both parents to work - no doubt about it. They have proven over and over again that the quality of time spent is more important than the quantity. What do you do with your kids? Do you sit them in front of the great babysitter - also known as the TV? Or do you read to them? Do you leave them to their video games all day long? Or do you play a board game with them? There is no one way to parent that is 100% right, but good parents spend time with their kids and GOOD time. Bad parents? They and their wants and needs come before their children's, and that's just sad - I don't care who you are!

1st, I didn't say anything about what I thought the BOE should do. I was commenting that people should not have kids if they don't know how to raise them. You're obviously too ignorant to understand what I was saying.
2nd, I did not say that I have children. You don't need to be a parent to realize who obviously should not be a parent.
3rd, I did not say anything bad about low income families. I don't know if you are low income or not, but you are obviously jealous of mothers who don't have to work.
Whether you are low income or not, you are clearly one of the less intelligent people in the area, since you can't even prepare a response that does not have an obsene word in it. I think you leed to take a look at your attitude, because no parent should be as bitter as you are.

In all your post all you do is cry about the parents not raising the kids correctly and that that is why the students aren't learning. Your statements are absurd. Sounds to me like you are one of the unqualified teachers that are the real problem. If everyone was qualified to teach then there would be no need for teachers. If you would do any research on your statements you would find out that experience not an education is what makes a good parent. You need to get off your high horse and get a life.
