Ten Commandments monument raises civil liberty concerns in Wyoming County

There are 353 comments on the Charleston Gazette story from Jul 4, 2013, titled Ten Commandments monument raises civil liberty concerns in Wyoming County. In it, Charleston Gazette reports that:

A group of people did not seek permission before installing a monument of the Ten Commandments on the Wyoming County Courthouse lawn in Pineville this week, County Commission President Jason Mullins said, but he doesn't see a problem with it because it's meant to inspire others and isn't paid for with tax dollars.

You DON'T know the bible is factual. Period. That is why you have faith. The word was invented to describe this very situation. Faith is the lack of knowledge. Using your circular method, then this is how I know that the napkin religion is the true religion.

I argue it because religion isn't healthy for a progressive society. It's archaic teachings hold us back as a species and prevent us advancing as a race. I'm not sure why that is hard to understand.

Hey, Hey! Religion is no reason to kill yourself or anyone else.

Don't kill people. The 10 Commandments say it, the law says it, I say it, c'mon, let's all say it. Don't kill people.

If we're ever going to agree about anything, we have to start somewhere.

Murder is just plain horrible. Can I get an Amen?

Depends on who we are killin'.:)

History tells us that we are better off having killed a few people.

I hope you are telling that to the people who want to "kill me and my family"!

I'll tell god to lighten up on your family, but I'm pretty sure he hates you!

But you're not 100% sure, now are you? Have faith my friend, have faith. I have Faith to know the God Loves you. And I believe you know it too.

I am telling everyone. Do not kill people.

I understand that it is some people's jobs to kill people: military members, abortionists, law enforcement administering the death penalty, even doctors acting on behalf of a patient's wishes not to be kept alive by machines. These killings are not considered "murder" since they are legal. I am suggesting that people who hold these positions make a personal choice to kill people when they accept their job, but in general, most of us live our lives without the errand of killing someone.

So, we can narrow it down: how about..

Do not murder people. "Murder" is killing that is against the law.

I didn't expect anyone to disagree with "thou shalt not kill" - it's the least controversial commandment.

SO.. I can only hope that the people who want to kill you and your family are not acting WITHIN the law - I wouldn't know how to prevent your killing. If they are planning to kill you ILLEGALLY, I certainly hope they will take my advice which is: Do Not Murder People.

I do not believe it, but the love and care expressed in your post was much more refreshing than being told that God hates people. A God who hates is self-defeating.

Bananas are delicious AND nutritious!

I can be your Bro, if you like, but I'm not really sure what that means. Is that short for: Brother in Christ? I'm more like: Brother in Virtual Reality.

By "amen", I only meant "so be it" - not to mislead you into believing that I am rallying Christians particularly - I want to rally everyone!

I think someone is being very immature by exercising civil disobedience and displaying the 10 Commandments on the Courthouse property. However, I admire the passion that must have motivated it. Perhaps someone genuinely wants to council the wayward people in our town - that's beautiful, Nancy - compassion for people is too hard to come by to fuss about it when I see it.

BUT - now that we've all seen it - don't you think it's time for the owner to move it to some private property so we can avoid the legal action that someone will eventually pursue to have the monument removed?

I agree, being a believer as I am, laws are made to be broken, as I said earlier about the 10 comadements, no one to day can keep them. It is like people complaining about taking prayer out of the School system, It's impopssible to do so, if a believer wants to pray he/she will pray, God doesn't hear an audible voice anyway, if one is going to pray they will. I try to keep my sanity when I get into a discussion with someone about religous topics for fear that I could hurt feelings, and that i don't want to do, every one has their own beliefs. As far as me calling you Bro, my belief is we all came from that lil' Eve while she was out in the garden with our daddy as they were picking beans, I believe Adam told her told her to pull her fig leaf down that it was bothering him, then it happened right their in the bean patch by the tomatos. You do get what I mean do you Bro?

So GOD will forgive them of the many sins they committed in putting up the commandments? lol they lied and thats one on the slabs right? GOD must be proud his followers sinned against him to honor him. Doesn't the bible say all liars will have their part in hell? God does not tell christians to break the commandments to get the point across to others. funny shit
