Ten Commandments monument raises civil liberty concerns in Wyoming County

There are 353 comments on the Charleston Gazette story from Jul 4, 2013, titled Ten Commandments monument raises civil liberty concerns in Wyoming County. In it, Charleston Gazette reports that:

A group of people did not seek permission before installing a monument of the Ten Commandments on the Wyoming County Courthouse lawn in Pineville this week, County Commission President Jason Mullins said, but he doesn't see a problem with it because it's meant to inspire others and isn't paid for with tax dollars.

And I LOVE how people pick and choose what they want to believe out of the Bible. Jesus spoke these words (above) when he was answering his disciples:

Mark 12:30-31 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this:‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Am I the ONLY one who finds irony in these remarks? I think so!

So let me use Jesus' own words to prove otherwise:
John 14:6 "Jesus answered them saying,“I am the way and the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through me."
Let me use Harry Potter's own words to prove otherwise...

You have to remember that the Bible is not proof of anything. The Bible is the CLAIM. Until the bible is proven to be factual, then nothing that comes from the bible can be used to prove anything.

Lots and lots of flowery language and beautiful rhetoric, but nothing of any real substance. Man (politics) will NEVER make a difference. If it could, it would have by now. What this nations needs is to repent and return to GOD! Anything less is it's doom. Man's arrogance (WE CAN DO IT WITHOUT GOD!) will be to his own folly. We think we can unite under the flag of "Anything goes!" and turn this country around? It's in a downward spiral. Here the ONLY thing that will work:
2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
Americans are ARROGANT, self-serving, demanding of their "rights" and freedoms even when those freedoms are clearly sickening and twisted, they want all life has to offer with little to no effort, and (above all) they want to worship their own intellect rather than the one true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? I'll say it:
GOD HELP US! Wake us up. Shake us up. Remind us who is sovereign and who is not.
Oh my. You are far, far away from reality. Delusion has overtaken your ability to think rationaly or logically.

There are no gods. You are wasting the only life you are truly guaranteed and doing absolutely nothing to make it better.

It scares me to believe that there are people in this world who think like you do and rely on the supernatural and superstitions to deal with life.

As do I.

If the US Constitution and US law allowed slavery, how many would you own? Your Bible clearly states that your god was well in favor of the practice of slavery. Surely you are in favor of owning a negro or two; it is what your Bible says is right and you NEVER cherry pick your Bible, do you?

Tell us. How do you feel about rape? Your Bible states that rape is ok as long as it was a virgin AND as long as you pay the father of the virgin that raped a small sum and then marry her. I didn't know you were cool with that.

And you must be down with murder. Your Bible gives us a list of things that we can kill others for. Adultery, working on the Sabbath, people who don't listen to priests, witches, homosexuals, fortune tellers, non-believers, false prophets, etc. etc. I could go on for quite some time. The list is really extensive.

So, since you don't cherry pick your bible, that makes you a Slave owning, rape promoting murderer.

No thanks. I think I stick with reality.

More and more people are grasping for reality than superstition and mythology. I think it is the exact opposite of sad. I find it refreshing.

Just because someone is for freedom and liberty doesn't mean they are atheist. I'm christian and I'm opposed to the ten commandments being on the courthouse lawn also.

Ever notice how smug atheists are? Ever wonder why? They honestly believe their insistence that there is no God will actually cause Him to go away. HA! No such luck. Oh, wait! I don't believe in luck ... I believe in CHOICE!

You are confusing being right with being smug.

You don't have to wonder. It is simpy because our views are supported by facts; not superstition and mythology.

Every single religion on Earth, since the beginning of time, has gone away. What makes you think yours will be any different. Statistics show that your numbers are dwindling. It isn't about making your god go away. No one can do that to an imaginary figure. It is simply making people think instead of being told. Statistics also say this is working.

Yes we know this. We have already heard you say that you don't cherry pick the bible and that you believe it in it's entirety. That is why you CHOSE to be a slave owning, rape promoting murderer. You would think people who have better sense than that.

So you're right because YOU say you are. Please forgive me while I take GOD'S Word over yours. Thanks!

Your views are supported by your opinions. No facts here! Mine are supported by historical evidence, eye witnesses who DIED rather than deny their accounts, and faith. I'll take that any day over your limited "wisdom." Thanks!

Religion STINKS and goes away because there is no substance to man-made anything. God always has been, is even now, and always will be. Thanks!

The very last thing you said? Absurdly ridiculous and nothing more than the mad, far-reaching insults and rantings of a maniac determined to make God "go away" but as I said earlier ... AIN'T HAPPENIN! Thanks!

Someday christianity may be a minority religion in America. With all of the the diversity that exists now within America, it may not be long until some other religion is the majority. And that new religious majority may try to enact religious laws. And the sad thing about it is when that day comes our great grandchildren will not be able to do anything about it because of the dumb bubba's who destroyed separation of church and state. our great grandchildren will not be able to use the constitution to prevent these religious laws from being forced upon them because some christian zealots who can't see past the end of their nose destroyed the bill of rights. Right now if the muslims try to enact Shari'ah law we can stop them because of separation of church and state. I hope these christian zealots don't destroy the bill of rights with their Ten Commandments monument and other religious laws .

If you believe that then you believe that your bible is absurdly ridiculous as well because it came STRAIGHT FROM YOUR BIBLE. What was it that you said about cherry picking? Either your bible is flawed and is full of the immoral things I QUOTED from it or you cherry pick it and are a hypocrite. Take your pick.

Well said, but you will never get them to see that far into the future. They are so used to having it their way, that that have forgotten how to share. That don't understand that keeping religious propaganda away from government institutions protects them as well.

I do. I am good at what I do which provides me time to as I see fit. Having said that, it takes very little time to break down the stereotypes and falsities of fundies. I type fast and think even faster.

No one has to believe me. That is the good thing about facts. They are true whether anyone believes them or not.

So, what have you contributed to this conversation besides poking your head up from underneath your bridge every so often, troll? Yeah, that's what I thought.:)
