I agree with Octavia. Let He Without Sin Cast The First Stone. Sure, Midwestern is not perfect. Is any team? What makes you think your kids are better than our kids? I want my kids to have the same opportunities as you want for your kids. I know of many situations where kids and parents from other franchises where "not representing their teams as they should". Did I post a comment about the whole organization? No I did not. I realize that some people are still in a mind frame from the "old days". Those times have come and gone. My kids will play with and against your kids whether you like it or not. No one should tolerate anyone making kids feel less of a person no matter their race, color, religion, or where they live! Rather they live in the projects or South Hills, hey are still kids at the end of the day.

7 teams collectively resigned from the Kanawha Valley Youth Football League at last night's meeting - Poca, Campbell's Creek, Elk River, St. Albans, Nitro, Sissonville and Winfield.

These teams have formed Mountain State Elite Cheer & Football League.

CreekRulz is right - there are plenty of teams for kids throughout this valley to play or cheer. Play your kids where they live or take them somewhere else to play. It's your call. If they don't play, that's your issue - not an entire league's.

so many of you are quick to holler about the injustices of youth sports. My whole hearted suggestion is this: there are elections every single year for board members and always openings for volunteers - Always openings for volunteers. Get involved and make an effort to change things instead of complaining and slinging accusations towards the parents who are trying to better the league. Many times it's the same parents in football that are involved in baseball or wrestling or whatever sport their children play. And dude, don't talk about how busy you are - we are all busy.

I am involved - and it's not because I'm reliving my football dreams. It's because someone has to do more than their fair share because the majority of you don't do any of your share. You wait for someone else to hold signups, to stock the concession stand, to order uniforms or to pick up trash all the while you roll in to a game 15 minutes before it starts, complain about the font size on the jerseys and leave the minute your kid is off the field.

Football starts in 68 days, peeps. It's time to get over the whining and the gnashing of the teeth and get happy, happy, happy.

Why does everyone think every team in the area needs to be in one big league? I don't see anyone bashing the Kanawha/Fayette league calling them racists. There has always been more than one league around, different teams in them at different times, but always more than one league. Why not bash the Boone league? They are close by and their not knocking down the door to play football with you guys.

No one has said that Midwestern, Western, or Dunbar is the reason we left. That's just the easiest assumption for everyone to make. Race had nothing to do with this. In fact, most that left were tired of a certain white man controlling and manipulating everything to suit him.

Just my two cents. I know it won't stop the complaining, but you really need to move on. Both leagues have more than enough teams for a league!

Good points. I find it odd that the teams that left, just happen to up and leave. Like u stated, their is enough teams to go around. People really hate to admit race doesnt have anything to do with peoples actions. But it does. I was in last nights meeting and i can tell, i really didnt feel welcomed there. Splits might be good because their are way too many teams in the area. Dont know too much about boone and fayette, i yet to have a chance to go that way. But, goodluck to you all.

Not all teams have the drama & this split is not about competition!
It's about being force fed expansion year after year, being manipulated, changing rules to benefit a few, etc., etc., etc. I could go on and on, but there is no reason to. It is what it is, move on. Both sides have enough teams to play football, every kid still has somewhere to play football or cheer so whats the big deal. It's done, there's no turning back so move on.

So "Creek Rulz" I am assuming you are from Campbells Creek.. if you are not then I apologize

but your own president at the meeting where the initial vote to let Dunbar, Western and Midwestern in to the KVYFL stood up in front of the entire group of people and said to quote

"8 years ago, Midwestern did not care about our kids.... and today we don't care about theirs"

then a person from Sissonville made the statement "it sounds like you are holding some sort of grudge against them" and his response was

"yes I am"

does that sound like a person who is "tired of" stuff or somebody who has an axe to grind?

What does that have to do with a new league forming? Midwestern wasn't voted in, so that was not a reason for a new league. In fact none of the three were voted completely into the league.

And, if that's what he said he is correct in theory. It wasn't just Midwestern, but the entire Chemical Valley, that told CC to join with someone else or find a new league to play in. Do, as he stated, they didn't care about our kids!

I find it sad that many of you folks speaking on things you simply have no clue about. Thugs, etc and other comments being said but yet you are part of the problem and dont have a solution to the problem. Division is being created among our children because of adult issues. We all know many of the teams that left probably dont want to to play with kids from the west whose majority is black. Thugs, ghetto, drama has no bearing on their choice not to involve themselves with these 3 teams. I see many cowards among us hiding behind screen names and speaking in code at meetings because they are afraid to address problems like grown people do. No team is perfect. Everyone has had problems within their organization and it should be left up to that program to handle it internally. Ive endured racial remarks, appropriate comments at games from hurricane, winfield and poca and will never discredit an entire organization for one persons shortcomings. I have know and have worked with many people within 90% of these leagues. I would hope we all can come to and understanding that will allow our children to play together in all areas.

My child IS biracial and after being in the Chemical Valley and dealing with the drama in the KVYFL last year, I can tell you that it is the thug, ghetto mentality that I want my children AWAY from! I don't them thinking that that's how black people act!

Well guess what, you will find that ever where and not only in youth sports. This is the only situation you will find people talking about stuff. In youth sports. We dont hear about the crap during softball, baseball or basketball season. Just football season. I might not have had my facts straight when i assumed why the other teams left. I apoligize for that. I was unaware their were problems within kvfyl before the 3 teams applied. But this is an example that not all drama comes from the west. Like i stated before, no organization is perfect. Everyone has their own problems and should deal with it accordingly. I hope all leagues can come to a truce and play football. It really should be about the kids.

Thank you finally someone thinking before they respond. Actually everyone should be happy for the split. This valley is better off this year than the last three. At least this year all the kids will have a place to play with the two leagues ALMOST divided evenly. So instead of trashing the move in brace it.
My take on it

This whole thing is crazy and in 2 or 3 years it will all blow up again. We ought to just have rotating teams and leagues so that there never becomes a status quo. That said they key to the new KVYFL is Midwestern and I'm not even sure from what I read that they are even in it. From past experiences with that particular franchise the success of the new league hinges on them being able to control things. That means controlling coaches and fans. The players always seemed to be fine. But cussing out 7 years olds in front of Laidley field looks real bad. Coaches that want to fight other coaches from other teams, fans and even coaches from their own same franchise is really bad. Having fans that cuss out the fans of other teams when you start losing is really bad. Having members of your organization sit in the stands while it goes on while those members do nothing is really bad. Bottom line is that Dunbar and Western got punished for the behavior of a franchise that they had nothing to do with. It appears that Midwestern is under new management maybe? If so you've got your hands full but I wish you well and hope things are handled a lot better than the past because other teams, fans, and players shouldn't pay the price for things outside of their franchise. Hopefully this is a new day but words don't mean a thing while actions do so let's see how it goes I guess this fall? Good luck to all.
