Then you're supporting the wrong person. Bug in on Topix constantly so obviously doesn't work yet he claims to be younger than retirement age.

He probably feels the same way about government benefits as he does others posting on Topix...he wants it for himself but doesn't want it for anyone else..

Hey look, they have had over 2 years on unemployment benefits. In 2 years they could have had an associates degree from a community college instead of "riding it out".

Maybe some have a degree and still can't find a job. I know someone who is 60 years old, has an associate's degree in mining engineering, has worked for almost 40 years in the coalmines, most of that time as a boss, and can't find a job. Think they would hire him at McDonalds? Yeah, right!

Sounds like he should have went a different way. He obliviously wasn't good at his job or his education was irrelevant to his job. Many times I see people wanting jobs in the fields their educated in. Sometime you have to get a job your over qualified for. There are so many oil an gas jobs they have to bring in people daily! 60 is not a good age to go looking for a job. But if your friend is a hard worker and wants a job he could find one. I see at least 10 places a day that are hiring. Sometimes you have to change your paradigm to maintain their self-respect.

So your idea is to extend benefits for life and like welfare have no incentive to ever get a job.

Of course he was good at his job or he wouldn't have worked for so many years. You get laid off at 60 years old and see how easy it is to find another job. He does work on a consulting basis but would rather have a full time job.

The unemployment rate is still about 7% which means there aren't a lot of jobs available. And as I told the other poster, you try finding a job in a tight job market when you're 60 years old.

Do you know how naive that sounds? People on unemployment do pay taxes. The point of the money is to assist in finances while securing a new job. The people sitting on their ass collecting a handout are the welfare people. They should be the cutoffs. Meanwhile some fat bitch just popped out another baby and she will be out of the hospital and spending her check at WalMart on Jan 1st. Yet families that actually use assistance like unemployment are just cut off along with 1.3 million other Americans that are "laying on it".

The BS is thick in this thread.
26 weeks isn't 2 years which is the initial period. The added time aka the Emergency Unemployment doesn't even bring it to a full year for many people.

Typical moron thinking.

You're obviously brilliant. Yea... If one gets unemployment then they obviously want to remain getting 40% of what they usually make for life. That's what everyone is striving for.

Good point and many families that are used to multiple incomes but one spouse lost the job and other still works do not qualify for anything as "they make too much". So the unemployment money has to go much further than most of the geniuses on here would understand.

Comparing someone on unemployment to welfare is asinine and shows their level of competent knowledge.
