My kids have been in the KVYFL since day one and its a great league. The competition is good and its alot of fun. I will say to new players football is not like other sports, it is about winning so you will have kids set out. Our first year 4 years ago my son played very little and we would go to games and he didnt even get on the field. Keep at it and you kid will get there turn if they are good. Parents get so mad every year because their kid didnt get to play but they need to understand that a kid that cant take a hit or doesnt know what to do can really get hurt ecspecially if they are on B and A team.
And that in a nut shell is the biggest problem! These kids are are usually between the ages of 5 and 11 or 12, they should be focusing on how to be good sports, the rules of the game, how to play each position, and how to take and give a hit, and everyone should be more concerned that every child gets the oppurtunity to learn, not on who is the best and who can score the most points!!! An these parent coaches need to stop trying to relive their not so glory days through their kids!!! I have been an avid football fan my entire life and I hope me son loves it just as much as me, but I will NOT be forcing him to practice 5 days a week and then spend a 6th day at games when he is 5 years old, I don't care which league it is!!!!

From what I have witnessed first hand, you have to be talking about Dunbar. They are a bunch of punks and bullies and they (by their actions) give their race a bad name. It's not the color of their skin, it's the way act. Cutty is the worst one...total piece of crap.
You must be kidding. COACH CUTTY IS THE BEST COACH THIS WHOLE VALLEY HAS EVER SEEN. 15 Years of dedication to the children of Dunbar from midget league through college. Ask the kids and find out the truth. You can even go to Marshall and WV State and beyond to see the MEN who he still loves and supports. I cant forget the GIRLS TOO !! You clearly have no clue! You definitely missed him taking all the boys to Sunday School before every game after he fixed them breakfast too. ALL OF THE LEAGUES NEED A FEW GOOD MEN LIKE COACH CUTTY. ONLY A PUNK WOULD HIDE HERE AND MAKE THESE NASTY COMMENTS. And yes we are BLACK and WHITE literally for life! Children love him and that's ALL that matters!

I have to agree - Coach Cutty is a really good coach. Football and basketball - my son thinks he's awesome - and by the way - not that it matters but - we are white - Coach Cutty is a great coach !

I agree - south hills 2 years ago - several of the coaches were related - they played their kids - their cousins kids- their buddies kids -(same in baseball & basketball)- they should be ashamed - they focus on their own kids but don't care about the rest. When they are 5-11 or 12, they need to encourage & teach every child - give them all a chance - who knows what potential the other kids might have - they care only about playing their own kids - and some of them are nowhere near being the best on the team

Really people???? Let's all try to remember what's in the best interest of the kids, an in doing so keep in mind that the coaches that coach our kids are strictly volunteers no matter what team or league there a part of and Above all no matter what color there skin may be. To even think let alone post some of the stuff I have read on here is absolutely sickening!!!!! What a SHAME we live in a society with so many self centered, racist, unkind, people:(

This whole Chemical/Kanawha Valley fight is absolutely childish! This does nothing but hurt the kids and makes the "adults" running these league's look like fools. All of these kids will have to play each other if they continue to play football in middle and high school. You as a parent or coach can't say I don't want my child playing that team because of whatever petty reason that you chose. And actually several of them will be in the same schools together and play on the same team. What is your behavior as parents, coaches, and league leaders teaching these kids? Once they are in the same school or same team with each other they are already going to have animosity against each other because that's what they were taught by their parents and coaches as children. I understand that the coaches are VOLUNTEERS but if you are going to volunteer to "coach" children, they need to be taught not only the fundamentals of the game but also how to treat people as adults. Remember these midget leagues feed out middle and high schools. I have no clue what started this "rivalry" between the 2 leagues but I do know that the ADULTS running these leagues need to get a grip and grow up!!!

This is what you get when ghetto trash for the most part run the teams. Let's face there are a lot of ghetto idiots in the cvfl and some need culled. There are some good guys, but the idiots outweigh them. And no this isnt about race because there are plenty of good black guys coaching. There just happens to be a lot of ghettoville bastards also.

I heard that Generals, Dunbar, Midwestern, and South Hills are all joining a new league next year. From what I hear we will have games as far as Huntington and possibly South Point Ohio. Does anyone know if this is true?

All I can say is that it's basically a dumpster fire and at ths point it ought to be banned. Don't put your kids through this mess. Coaches are the worst, then the parents and then the players.

When I was a kid I played in the Chemical Valley League because we moved for a few months. I moved back to the West Side but stayed with the same team. It was a good experience. The only thing that I didn't like was you had to play clear in Buffalo then play clear in Belle. It was too spread out and hard on some parents.

Most of my friends played of Docs in Kanawha Valley though and they all loved it.

Of course the times has changed as well as the coaches.

My point is my negative experience was traveling so far in the Chemical Valley league.

Which teams are in each league now?

The only franchises left are the most competitive ones, west side, Dunbar, South Hills and Midwestern. The rest of the league jumped ship due to the high level of competition. I don't blame them though. It's a lot more even now those 4 are in there own league.

People left because of the attitudes, not competition!! Dunbar and South Hills are leaving, what's your excuse now? Midwestern and Western can play themselves and have shoot outs during halftime for entertainment!

Lol because there Are only 4 teams left, that means you only have 3 opponents. I was board member when this all went down and my franchise was one that left chemical valley. If you don't think it had to do with competition your fooling yourself. These kids can't hide forever they soon will face face capital, GW and South Charleston in high school.

I bet the majority of the kids on Midwestern and Western never make it past middle school or high school football because the parents care more about winning a midget league game than teaching respect and education! You can keep the competition if it means keeping my kids away from those attitudes!

Lol, that's an easy cop out. So why do those high schools are the 3 best football programs in Kanawha County? Because there kids can't make the grades? Serious? You really need to come up with a better excuse than that because your statement doesn't reflect at the high school level. All I know is regardless win or lose I want my son to play against the best competition possible, that's what makes you a better player. You think the gap between those schools are big now, just wait until they trickle up to high school now that they don't play them and see how things go. Nitro, riverside, St. Albans and Sissonville have horrible test scores. They don't put much into the books either. Sissonville and Riverside are on probation due to there low test scores. 2 of the worst academic schools on the east coast.

I take it you are a jilted mom that thought she was special. The Coaches are good with the kids. This will be my sons 4th year and he has had the same coaches with exception of a couple. It must have changed cause the four years i have been there I haven't seen anything like that.

If you think about it some of our best motivational speakers that go around to schools are ex-convicts. The nature of the felony should be what is looked at not the title. People make mistakes. Why hold it over their heads for the rest of their life.

Some of our best motivational speakers are ex-cons. The term ex indicates that they are no longer they have paid their debt. As long as it wasn't a crime against a child there is absolutely nothing wrong with a felon coaching.
