Just check out the replies in this topic or one of the other ones that have covered this. You have parents who coddle their "little ones" to the point of absurdity. They would be up in arms to the point of hysteria if anyone actually expected their precious child to wait outside for a few minutes in any weather less than 30 degrees.

It'll be a rude awakening for these coddled little f'ers when they get out in the real world and realize that they are expected to be at work regardless of it being cold.

Wimps. Put on a coat and go to school you shelted little babies. This snow and cold weather thing is ridiculous. The teachers love it because of a free day. I think there should be school year round and get a week off for the major holidays and maybe two weeks on the 4th of July. Then start a new class year.

Years ago I went to school in cold weather and didn't have the same cold weather gear they have today, BUT I"m glad children don't have to go to school on these brutal, cold days. With consolidation kids have to travel farther than they did in my day (there were 13 high schools in Gbr. Co. in my day). I am SO VERY GLAD they don't have to get out and freeze in the cold now.
Oh, just how long do they have to stand out in the cold at the bus stop? The clothing is much better now for cold weather. Last time I rode a bus it had a heater. Or better yet, all of you so good parents, and there are a lot of you, continue to take your chlld to school in your vehicle!

<quoted text>Parents today love their children more than yours did back then! Most parents would rather keep their children home and out of the sub zero weather, I know I won't let mine go out in the sub zero weather. Did you know that "sub zero" will kill a child?
My parents loved me just fine. While attenting elementary and jr. high I had to walk about 1/4 mile down a hill out of sight of our house and wait for the bus. It snowy weather it was late - I waited. It arrived with chains beating the fenders. In cold weather we went unless there was no heat at the school. The county did provide bus houses built by the vocational schools at that time. They were prepared. I surrived. Get over it! The generations are maybe smarter but are much weaker.

<quoted text>Very good post. I agree. These temperatures make being outside unsafe for anyone, especially little children.
Outside for no more than 30 minutes for a few and less than that for the rest. Do the parent's vehicles, buses, and school buildings have heat these days?

Also the way the economy is most of our parents can't afford to go buy us warm clothes. Most of us have to wear old, worn out jeans and an old shredded hoodie to school
No, mostly that's what you kids want to wear. There's thrift stores and Salvation Army stores around if it's that bad. All students should be in uniforms anyway but that's another topic.

I admit most kids do like to wear that stuff but there is a good portion of us that have to wear clothes like that.

Mercer County went to school today but 1/4 of the buses would not start this morning. Some of the kids were waiting for almost one hour. Another thing to consider is that parents are more sue-happy these days. Another thing to consider is that more high school students drive themselves than when I was in school. And last but not least, is the fact that schools sometimes do not have heat in this cold weather, or at least adequate heat. I hate it that the kids have missed so much this year. It makes it hard on the kids, hard on the parents, hard on the teachers, etc. but sometimes you have no control over mother nature. It is better to be safe!!!! I also hate it that if this happens next year, the kids will be making up all of this time and school may not be out until July!!!!!
