The idiots at the DEP granted a permit to blast in the Kanawha State Forest, five miles from the Capital. Has this whole bunch gone mad? Big Coal is on it's way out, and I guess they intend to destroy as much as they can before they leave. I'd like to know who was the daddy of this one.

Our good old Senator Brooks McCabe owns (or at least used to own) all that land. Why don't you give him a call?

I flew out of Charleston on Friday and right over all of it. They're just cutting down the trees and just burning them. Such a shame.

I guess we can expect damage to the area, when you have an ex-Coal company official as head of the DEP. He's a joke.

Keystone industries, out of ft Myers Florida bought the land from McCabe as well as the land at the top of my alpha. They've had it closed off and the mine, blasting included, for over 10 yrs now. It has been leased to a mining outfit from Kentucky, revelation, which has been mining there for a few years now. This newest permit is further away than parts of the old permit and has been set for almost as long. Also remeberb the state forever was first clear cut before it was Kanawha state forest. The mines have always used selective cutting, so if you wish to hark about the mine doing damage to the forest, think about how the forest came to be. The blasting the mine is doing is the only real potential of harm and it's very small scale compared to most mines. The town of marmet is the closest to the blasting and it's townsfolk have had more false complaints than the mines have had violations. Which have all been low grade violations the likes every mine has.
