This one you want your Children and Grandchildren to read.
They won't believe this happened, but it DID.
Harry & Bess
This seems unreal....

Harry Truman was a different kind of President. He probably made as many, or more important decisions regarding our nation's history as any of the other 42 Presidents preceding him. However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House.
The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in Independence Missouri . His wife had inherited the house from her mother and father and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there.
When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an 'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year.
After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There was no Secret Service following them.
When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, "You don 't want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it's not for sale.."
Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, "I don't consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise."
As president he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food.
Modern politicians have found a new level of success in cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth. Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale.(sic. Illinois)
Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed, "My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference!
I say dig him up and clone him!!

Enjoy life now-it has an expiration date!

NAFTA was a bill GHWB would have signed but he lost re-election during the bill's construction, Clinton actually signed it while Dems had a majority but as SD pointed out, more Republicans signed it, also Clinton seen the writing on the wall and that congress was gonna change over to GOP control as it was inevitable early on in 1994 it was a compromise deal intended in good faith instead of vetoing it but the GOP went on to stab him in the back anyways. Obama should have learned from that episode and told to GOP to GFYS.

It's amazing when you look at how far the system has fallen today. Yesterday's Farm Bill was an excellent example. Both sides had pretty much been able to settle their differences and come to an agreement. But then, loose cannon tea bagger Steve Southerland (R-tard Fl) decides to tack on an ammendment that democrats said would kill the deal. The ammendment was tacked on and democrats voted against it.

The problem is that no-brainer Boehner can't even get his own party to work together. He has no control over the tea baggers and even with a majority in the House, he can't get what he needs.

The funniest part of the whole thing was that last night, repubicans tried to blame democrats for the bill's failure to pass. LMAO. And the sad part of that is that some people will believe it.

sundog you are so full of it. Illegals should be deported. Bill Clinton was weak no matter who started it. You are the perfect example of why our country is going down. You are just internet smart and not real life smart. I have seen the effects of Nafts and free trade agreement on the rest of America. I am not originally from around here. Coal was not effected. Political correctness has helped make this country weak. Anyone who puts anything infront of America is a racist and not an American. With this the government has divided and conquered. Everything you have downed and still have no real critisism of my proposal. Only thing you did was take sides to down me on illeagals. So you support people whom break our laws and give them rights because they are too cowardly to ban together to right their own country. They are mexicants not mexicans. They drain our economy and resources. To say otherwise is total stupidity. This has become the lazy generation and you are part of it.

Here's a few specific examples, Arthur. Credible source, government admission, DNA exoneration, dead inmates.
None of those cases listed under the U.S. PROVE an innocent man was executed. They just suggest the possibility, big difference. I will say again, there has never been one case of an executed person being PROVEN to be innocent. Yes there are some cases that are questionable, I will agree with that. I still support the death penalty.

I do appreciate the civilized tone you have shown. That is how adults converse even when we dont agree. I understand your point, and I will admit it is likely an innocent person was executed at one time or another, but for the most part the system works. That is why it takes so long for someone to be executed. Our system is designed to make sure through appeals and such that no innocent person is executed, hence the death row exonerations.

I don't support illegals...unless you really meant sick birds and if that's the case, I have nothing against them. What I don't support is the stupid republican notion that we "build a fence" to keep them out. I would not want to live on either side of the Berlin wall and I damn sure don't want to close our southern border with a wall.

Oh what you say one thing does stick out, these dudes praise St Ronnie for "tear down this wall" for something that happened about a year after he left the presidency yet they themselves are pissing on Ronnie's grave because of their promotion of building a similar wall here, not quite any intellegence goes into their thinking and hitting the history books are what they call very tiring.

I don't support the kind of America they are looking to build. Is illegal immigration a problem....yes, of course it is. But building a damn wall like some communist/fascist country and requiring people to all speak the same language or be the same religion like some dumb ass middle eastern country is not the answer.

The answer is getting republicans in the house off their dead asses to help come up with a viable solution to stop illegal immigration. Of course we both know that the chances of No-Brainer Boehner ever being able to come up with ANYTHING effective are zero to none. The man has been a 100% failure during his speakership.

I love how these liberal democrats do alot of assumming. I never said to build a wall. Sorry I misspelled a word. So maybe I should do the same for them and go down to thier level of name calling. The repeals are a good idea and it will help rebuild America. But the liberal party is just interested in becomming a socialist country. You assume I am a republican because of conservative views. That is ok. The way you talk, you act as if you are a politician not giving answers and blame displacement. If there is a opposing view you want to bash it and name calling. You are a sad individual. So just sit there will you bag of cheetos, yoo-hoo and a box of puffs plus and piss and moan with your name calling. Do not answer anything and be a child.
