i also just stumbled across this and everyone should read it. it's a suicide letter from a USA veteran of the Iraq war.

22 troops or vets commit suicide everyday.
if you want to honor the troops/vets, read the letter in its entirety.

really makes ya think about who you're calling terrorists and who is being killed in the Middle East and why....if this war was really protecting democracy and overall a noble, positive thing for the world, shouldn't the troops come home feeling proud that they defended us and worked hard/did a good job? Instead they are returning physically and emotionally scared.

why should they have any guilt about killing "terrorists"?

http://gawker.com/i-am-sorry-that-it-has-come...

"The simple truth is this: During my first deployment, I was made to participate in things, the enormity of which is hard to describe. War crimes, crimes against humanity. Though I did not participate willingly, and made what I thought was my best effort to stop these events, there are some things that a person simply can not come back from. I take some pride in that, actually, as to move on in life after being part of such a thing would be the mark of a sociopath in my mind. These things go far beyond what most are even aware of."

"I deployed again, where I put a huge emphasis on saving lives. The fact of the matter, though, is that any new lives saved do not replace those who were murdered"

" How can I possibly go around like everyone else while the widows and orphans I created continue to struggle? If they could see me sitting here in suburbia, in my comfortable home working on some music project they would be outraged, and rightfully so."

"Is it any wonder then that the latest figures show 22 veterans killing themselves each day? That is more veterans than children killed at Sandy Hook, every single day. Where are the huge policy initiatives? Why isnít the president standing with those families at the state of the union? Perhaps because we were not killed by a single lunatic, but rather by his own system of dehumanization, neglect, and indifference."

<quoted text>Yeah, we should be talking about the immense problems the world has called Muslim terrorists strapping bomb on children and blowing up markets in the name of allah. How about those terrorists "Palestinians"? Should Israel kick those squatters out of THEIR country? Why do people call incorrectly call it Palestine when their is no such place and never has been? What do we the good people of the world do about the evil scourge of radical Islamic terrorists? We have bigger problems with these evil people than worrying about the 2 party system right now. I agree.
oh, and this is info for ya about the origin of the Palestine/Israel conflict.

straight from the mouths of the people who lived it..... the website is called Jews for Justice of Palestinians.

Veterans committing suicide. Disgraceful. A few reasons for such a high rate:

1. The war was illegal, unplanned and held no altruistic purpose. WWII vets returned home with the pride that they saved the world from Hitler. Iraq vets return home to their leader's ridicule and saved the world from a guy who lived in a dirt hole.

2. The lack of planning created shortages, so most of these suicides come from men who served 2, 3 and 4 tours. They left as 20-year-olds with bright futures. They returned as if time travel had occurred. They realized quickly that they had no education, few marketable job skills, few jobs available, etc.

3. The war is different. The anxiety and trauma experienced in an ambush can be prepared for. The anxiety of awaiting your vehicle to blow up from an IED that is CERTAINLY in your path, is much different.

4. Many of them would've been dead. We are now saving more soldiers with gruesome injuries who, in theaters' past, would've died. The old war adage was to take number killed and wounded would be "times two." Not this war. It's times 10. Every Iraq vet has seen first hand a fellow soldier get arms and legs blown off.

Let's not forget that this country still sends its poor and minorites to fight its wars. They return home to the poverty they left in most cases. In this case, they returned to deeper poverty. 900,000 military members are on food stamps.

From the same site..........
1. Self-esteem
A number of published studies have demonstrated that people sometimes use prejudicial attitudes and discriminatory behavior to boost their own self-esteem. When people's self-esteem is threatened, prejudicial actions such as racism appear to restore esteem (at least for some). This is obviously not a socially productive way to gain feelings of self-worth, but it appears to be one way that some people do it.
Racism is a reflection of ignorance. There are no exceptions. Every study shows the same data - higher the intelligence, the less racism:

The list goes on and on. We all bleed the same color, we are all God's children and God doesn't make mistakes.
I was trying to think of something more unrelated and irrelevant to fighting a war as sexuality. But I couldn't.

Ending don't ask don't tell strengthened our military more than anything we could've done. It's simply ignorant to keep talented, smart soldiers out of the service because of their sexuality. It endangers everyone. There are some true badasses (four Navy Seals have come out as being gay) that I'd rather have on my team than off of it.

Someday, these idiots will learn that skin color and sexuality has no bearing on performance or character.

Here you go. 900,000 military members and their families cash nearly a billion in food stamps on military bases every year.

So much for "supporting our troops."

i am enjoying my time here! I went to the beach today and it was lovely. The water was kinda cold but I guess I should expect that in November, even in the Mediterranean.

you should stop and think of innocent people and the children. Caring about other people is important.

war has been happening everywhere since the dawn of time. it's not some special thing only middle eastern people do. to think that is....you guessed it, racist!

beautiful mind......glad your enjoying the sites and beaches. There has been war going on and I agree. But their war has been going on longer. They have the power to stop it. They should be thinking of the countless lives and blood they have spilled. This has been based on a religous was but we know that there is more to it now. If everyone claims they have a peaceful religon, then why don't they give peace a chance? It is not up to the outside world

It does, and you're right - the lack of intelligence does not necessarily indicate the presence of ignorance. We are all ignorant in certain disciplines. But it's the CAPACITY to learn that intelligence measures, not stored knowledge or recall.

But I wonder if it isn't purely a cycle. People who have contact with multiple ethnic groups, and interact with people of different cultures and languages, tend to be brighter. People who hold prejudices AVOID these contacts, further predicating their own racism. Parents keep their kids away from these situations, the kids adopt the parents' views and keep their kids away, etc. Racism has become "environmentally hereditary" - it exists among families, is passed from parent to child but is entirely dependent upon environmental factors like income, education and geographic location. It only takes on kid to go travel or go to college to break the cycle. But travel and college are those "situations" that more often than not are avoided.

someday, you will be confronted with your hatred for people and hopefully not like it.
you don't know shit about the conflict between palestine and israel, so save either go educate yourself with something other than Zionist propaganda, or shut up about it permanently. You're spreading lies. and the sad thing is, you know you are!
i can't wait to live in a world without people like you.
There is no bigger bigot in the world than a Muslim terrorists. At least my bigotry doesnt cause me to strap bombs on children and blow up markets. My bigotry doesnt cause me to chop of people heads because they dont agree with me. My bigotry doesnt cause me to be oppressive to women and anyone who doesnt agree with my opinion like MUSLIM TERRORISTS are.

The war was not illegal. They way the war was ultimately conducted was a mistake, but the act of the war was NOT illegal.
