I've been a nurse for over 15 years and have worked at the largest hospital system in the Valley for all but 2 of the years. The pay scale for Nurses in the Kanawaha Valley is lower than anywhere in the state; however, the pay scale for Management is higher than anywhere else in the state. For the first time in my 13 years at CAMC I am seriously considering joining a Union. I know that several of my coworkers feel that unionization would help increse salaries and protect Nurses from unsafe working conditions. There are currently 2 Unions that are actively seeking willing participants and though I am certainly tempted to recognize the power that Nurses wield in collective bargaining, I am interested in finding out how other industries with Unions have benefited by having representation. Thanks.

In the 80's we had 24% union jobs across America with a booming economy. The unions kept jobs here. Today only 7% of America are union jobs (what's left of the jobs in the states) and our economy is crap. Think about what your buying and where it comes from. None of the money is kept in America when you buy made in china! They take the jobs and the profits.

Back in the day the unions represented the workers but in the last 20 years they are only out to support the inflated salaries of their officers.

Unions were born on the docks of NY as a pay to work scheme. It's been a racket since day one, with mafia ties....I've been in a union. "Billing hours" worked was more important than doing a good job or even showing up...it's welfare for people who don't have enough iq to make it in the real job market...unions done a great job in Detroit! Just look at it!

The companies so out their workers, the union can only protect the workers when their is a contract. Once expired they don't have to renew it. Detroit companies sent jobs overseas and what factories are still here import their steel!

Pure economics....you can't force wages and be competitive. Would you pay $40/hr for a service when you can get it for $25/hr??

So your buying a product for $100 that a union worker made 4 of in a hour, the company makes $400 the employee makes $40, say you subtract another $160 per employee for benefits, taxes and stuff that leaves them with a $200 profit that is spent in the US and provides jobs. But your buying junk made in china for $100 they paid someone $3 to make it, no benefits to pay for and get tax breaks for selling their junk in AMERICA and guess what else their profits are not being spent in the US because the jobs were shipped over seas! What are we gonna do when the only jobs left in America are gomart and Walmart? They can ship almost any job across seas for cheeper labor and avoid paying taxes. They buy fuel, oil, steel, salt, coal, tobacco, food from everywhere but the U.S. Most of us unfortunately will be unemployed and living off of our presidents welfare care if we don't start taking care of our own! Buy American, buy local, support your community and neighbors! Remember when these little towns boomed! They had steady work and bought locally, when the companies started outsourcing the country went to hell.

Union workers are lazy SOB's that don't want to work hard just get paid for it. At the Rite Aid distribution center in Nitro a person can work their asses off from start to finish and the person across from them can just show up high and do nothing and yet when it's time for a raise both will get an equal amount.

And to add insilt to injury if there happens to be a layoff the one with the most time will get to stay regardless of their work ethic.

it's this way in every union in the nation

if you are in a union you're a lazy mother fu...r!

I quite a few years back because of all the drugs and laziness. Yes I said drugs..

I would love to see those workers at Rite Aid warehouse get randomly tested some day!
