I thought integration happened a long time ago. Those of you who think this is racial are showing nothing but ignorance, if race was an issue this man wouldn't have had the job in the first place. You all want to scream racism, inequalities, and oppression? Why don't I apply for a scholarship through the African-American college fund? Why don't I devote an entire month to white-native American history? Why don't we cancel Martin Luther king day instead of Good Friday or Presidents' Day? You wanna know why we don't? Because of racist african Americans that still feels this country owes them special privilege due to slavery. If you want to be treated equal act equal.

Hard for me to respect a man who took out the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem for a day. I don't care what his excuse is, if the kids don't want to recognize either of those they can come see me and I'll gladly purchase for them a one way ticket out of this country. Let me catch my children ever acting like that, I'll make sure they are disciplined.

Ignorance from the black community is what makes white people dislike black people. Ignorance from the white community makes black people hate white people.

I can speak to his character, he is a very rude, angry, inappropriate person! He gets off on the power he has at that job. That's his problem and if he doesn't get off his high horse and stop with the egotistical power trips then he will be permanently replaced. Ron duerring is a good man and knows what he is doing. I support his decision 100 percent. If Giles wants his job he will try to use this time to change and start following the rules.

Ron Duerring an intelligent and fair man? Thats a joke!!
He lets certain board members and politics rule his decisions. Money and power kept the JA gym teacher and coach employed after his 3 week suspension. It appears all they did was strip him of his middle school coaching duties by taking football and softball away from him after inappropriately and repeatedly touching a teenage female athlete as well as making comments with sexual inuendos to her. Amusing part is that he admitted to it all to Mr Duerring and still has a job as a gym teacher. Now is that good judgement and protecting our children? Hes a joke!!! Politics rule not justice.

I looked at this thread, as many of you people on hear with too much time on your hands. People want to make this a racial issue when it has nothing to do with race. Both sides of the argument are invalid. It looks like people were looking for a reason to bash each other. Bottom line is most of the nonsense I've seen on this forum stems from a lack of intelligence. People are people regardless of skin color and if you think you're getting into heaven with your negative, racist thoughts (black or white), it'll be a sad day when you lift your eyes from hell. It's unfortunate that many of you are raising children who will carry on the same ignorant lifestyles. Prayers for you all!

An angry black man trying to help out his "oppressed kinfolk". Udderly ridiculous!

And as far as people and principals with power trips within Kanawha County Schools, take a look at the current leader of GWHS. If one knew a fraction of what has went on there over the past year and a half, they would be widely awakened!

I attended my nieces graduation from Capitol. It was at the Civic Center. There were "minorities" all around us that acted like complete degenerates. These ingrates are a parasite to this country. No one could hear anything anyone was saying without someone with their pants on the ground screaming some ebonics. Who knows what they were saying. If Mr. Giles is such a wonderful administrator then why would he allow such a disgrace occur during graduation? He was more concerned about some dumb t-shirt controversy rather than encouraging people to act appropriately at this memorable rite of passage. If you act like a fool, be prepared to be treated like one.
Mr. Giles is a wonderful administrator, probably the best in the oounty. These ingrates. as you call them, weren't the only people acting improper. A white student from GW wearing one of the T-shirts in question which belonged to her graduating sister was acting improperly as well (her picture was in the paper - Alana Moybad). Her whole family including her big-mouth dad thought it real important to applaud and holler like an idiot at the completely inappropiate behavior of a disgruntled gratuate who was angry because he was not the top graduate. I, too was at the commencement. Remember, Mr. Giles has nothing to do with the rank of the graduating seniors, but here again, its all his fault. If anyone in this county or state, as far as that goes, has a more distinguished commencement than Capital High School, please tell me who that might be. And, for the record, many high schools in this county and other counties have copied from this very school. Trust me, it is Mr. Giles who is and has been responsible for this impressive commencement. Now, I ask you, wouldn't "crowd control" be the job of the police officers which are at commencement ceremonies of all the schools at the Civic Center. Mr. Giles doesn't allow this behavior, but for your information he is "a wonderful person and administrator". You see, he is in a damned if you do - damned if you don't situation in most instances. By the way, I think I would know more about this principal than you since I have worked for him for years. He is a respector of all, especially those respectful to him.

Speaking of fools, you and everyone else are foolish if you think a lot of this isn't about his being black. I have worked for both a white principal and Mr. Giles at this school, I am here to tell you no one talked or spoke to the former principal as rudely as they have to Mr. Giles. It is what it is! Capital High is fortunate that a majority of their students appreciate that Mr. Giles make them feel safe and secure and believe it or not, he is liked by most. Yes, he is strict, a dictator he is not. One must wonder about the others.....By the way, I am white and am thankful he is the principal.

You sound dumb... Black history has a month check a text book any history book we learn about white history every other month of the year... And whether u believe it or not African Americans get turned down from a lot of different opportunities just because they are black but you wouldn't know it because obviously you think that the world is equal lol that's why there are things specifically for blacks just like there are things specifically for whites they just don't admit to it

First off if your going to talk crap about my family get your facts straight. I am Arabic not white. My name is spelled Alanna Mobayed. Also, I can wear whatever I want to. The shirt had nothing wrong with it. He overreacted which made the situation worse. And my dad and my family were just as loud as everyone else. So instead of worrying about my family, worry about yourself. Also, Josh wasn't made because he wasn't ranked top graduate. He was mad because Giles would not let him speak even though he WAS validictorian. Giles had told him he wasn't an when the rankings came out he was. Not letting people speak at graduation was dumb. So with that said, before you try to talk about my family, think again. K? Bye.

If you are going to call me out by name you should get your information straight before you insult someone in a public forum. First of all the student in question was protesting because at the end of the day he was the only student (other than the creator of the t-shirt) that was singled out and not allowed to give his speech at graduation. Second: The fact is that he had the highest GPA in the class. When the final calculations came out Mr. Giles and the administration did nothing to correct the rankings and give him his due respect. Finally I cheered for the student for exercising his right to speak his mind and protest the unfair treatment he received from Mr. Giles. You apparently know who I am....I invite you to step up and discuss any further issues about me and my family directly with me instead anonymously in a public forum……Respectfully Kenneth J Mobayed….AKA Big Mouth Dad

You are the first white person I have ever heard play the race card. Nice try, but the facts of the matter clearly tell a different story than your rendition. The Mobayed family are upstanding, TAX paying, respected people in this community. Unlike the majority of the ingrates that end everything with "izzle".

As a teacher at Capital High, I can tell you that Mr. Giles is a great principal. The students may not appreciate him always, but he does what is necessary to keep Capital a safe and high functioning school. I have not always agreed with him, but I have always known that he did what he believed was best for the swtudents at Capital High.
By the way, the student who caused the scene at graduation was not first in his class and he knew it well in addvance. He bad mouthed the true valedictorian all year. She, on the other hand was a wonderful student and person, who received many scholarships, including the best one at WVU., and she earned it!!!!!
