There are so many family's that have husbands that work in the coal mines. And that's how they support there family's. But of course most of you probably don't care about that because most of you probably never worked a day in your life and are probably sitting around collecting your welfare checks every month and your food stamps. And getting your rent paid.

Hahaha if your referring to me i have a very good well paying job and i ain't never been on welfare and neither has anyone else in my family. My opinion only dirty/trashy a$$ people supports coal mining and who would want a man always coming home to you always covered in dirt? Hahaha not me and i will never support coal mining. Coal miners do make good money tho and most of the coal miners wives/girlfriends are totally worthless. Most of them likes to live off other people and they couldn't support themselves if they was single. Coal mining needs to go away and stay away from WV because it makes WV look so bad.

Most of the coal miners wives/girlfriends would be on welfare without their coal miner :)

The real BlkBarbie is beautiful from head to toe and she has one of the most nicest bodies u will ever see on a girl and that's no lie. The real BlkBarbie is very smart and she's very popular off the computer and on the computer. Why do u think she's always the #1 hot trending topic on here? Obviously u don't know her and u never met her or her husband off the computer. Her husband is a very lucky man and he knows it.

Due to its abundance, coal has been mined in various parts of the world throughout history and coal mining continues to be an important economic activity today. Compared to wood fuels, coal yields a higher amount of energy per mass and can often be obtained in areas where wood is not readily available. Though historically used as a domestic fuel, coal is now mostly used in industry, especially in smelting and alloy production, as well as electricity generation. Large-scale coal mining developed during the Industrial Revolution, and coal provided the main source of primary energy for industry and transportation in industrial areas from the 18th century to the 1950s. Coal remains an important energy source, due to its low cost and abundance when compared to other fuels, particularly for electricity generation.[1] Coal is also mined today on a large scale by open pit methods wherever the coal strata strike the surface or are relatively shallow. Britain developed the main techniques of underground coal mining from the late 18th century onward with further progress being driven by 19th century and early 20th century progress.[1] However oil and its associated fuels began to be used as alternative from the 1860s onward. By the late 20th century coal was for the most part replaced in domestic as well as industrial and transportation usage by oil, natural gas or electricity produced from oil, gas, nuclear power or renewable energy sources. By 2010 coal produced over a fourth of the world's energy, and by 2050 is expected to produce about one-third.[2]

Since 1890, coal mining has also been a political and social issue. Coal miners' labour and trade unions became powerful in many countries in the 20th century, and often the miners were leaders of the Left or Socialist movements (as in Britain, Germany, Poland, Japan, Canada and the U.S.)[3] Since 1970, environmental issues have been increasingly important, including the health of miners, destruction of the landscape from strip mines and mountaintop removal, air pollution, and coal combustion's contribution to global warming.

You are right. The idea that many people in Appalachia are inbred is a fallacy. This is a lie that apparently had its roots several generations ago when the coal operators were using any means available to them to discourage unionization and economicall enslave coal miners. The mud and accusations were flung and picked up and repeated by eastern newspapers to sell more copies.

Hillbillies, as a group, are no more inbred than any other group in the US. There are several websites from which you can get information about Appalacian inbreeding.

If you believe like the bible thumpers, Gods Children (Adam and Eve) were the first Brother and Sister to start the process of Incest. If you still believe the bible thumpers, we are all Brothers and Sisters. If you still believe in the bible thumpers, the next time you are humping your partner, just think that you are doing your Brother or Sister.

Yes- we need to find other sources of jobs before coal is gone. The areas where coal is still big are some of the worst areas of the state (Iaeger, Logan, etc.). The areas that are dried up with coal have gone down hill fast (Coalwood, etc.). Coal will eventually be gone- we need a new source of income for these areas
