The community didn't want a bridge built in elk hills but its being built anyways.now mink shoals has to deal with traffic, construction and it won't be long before gas stations n fast food is built. But they don't care about screwing up taxpayers quiet community as long as they get to waste our money.

It's not Carper that had the decision on this. The US Air Guard wanted to move the 130th division because it wasn't safe for the main entrance to the base to be located at the entrance of a county park at which in any time someone could sneak onto the base. With the mass shootings that happen al over the country and recently at military bases this needed to be done. If not, then the 130th would have closed down and moved elsewhere creating a huge loss in jobs and economic income this county receives having the base located here. Our only jobs are not in the military, majority of us live and work around Kanawha Co. If not for this "inconvenience" bridge then more than 1,000 military families would have been forced to leave the state for relocation. That would affect quiet little Mink Shoals even more.

Bs govt waste. Homeowners shouldn't suffer because the 130th is afraid they will have to relocate. If I'm not mistaken they used to have gun shows at the armory with live ammo next to weapons, but your afraid of mass shootings? Because of all the traffic and people our kids will be far less safe, but as long as tackett gets his bridge its fine. They chose the career knowing full well you could be relocated.

I am very happy about the bridge and looking forward to it. I want to be able to get to the park quicker and it will be so easy. I could even walk which wouldn't be a bad thing. I'm not worried about a mass shooting or the Air Guard either. We have co-existed all this time with no trouble. I say bring it on.

They aren't afraid of mass shootings... a loaded truck like the Oklahoma Federal building is what they are afraid of. It's the world we live in like it or not. And what's coming in the future with nano-weapons, drones, emps and biological terror will make current fears look like a trip to Disneyland. Some of you really have no clue and maybe you are better off that way...

People just need to quit being such crybabies and just get over it. I'm sure if it were you or your family with a job at the base you would want it to be more secure, and you wouldn't want them to have to lose their job or relocate. Yes it will be inconvenient for a while. So what. Go cry about more important things.

And for everyone who is crying, since they're such experts, you should know that the way it is now is against regulation. It has to be done, it's not a political boohoo.

What is being built up on the hill, down from the airport? Doesn't look like it could be an extended runway because it doesn't appear as though those 2 mountains connect. Is that part of the air guard?

I think the peoples homes is more important than the base. You buy a home because of its location and feel its safe to raise a family. Why should they suffer so weekend warriors can keep wasting money. I don't need govt sheep to protect me. The only threat to our freedom is in the white house. I hope the base gets closed anyway

Mink Shoals is a fairly nice area and convenient to town. However, if I had kids I wouldn't want to live there because of the schools they would attend after elementary age. That's just the sad state of it today. And it won't get better. No jobs coming so nothing to upgrade and improve with just more decay. WV keep voting like you have for 50+ years and then wonder why it sucks here so bad and why your life sucks but you don't do anything to change it. Charleston is a has been town in a nowhere state.

Wake up America! These people are more than weekend warriors. They are you neighbors, friends, relatives and protectors of our freedom. If you don't like your freedom move on over across the big pond and then do some complaining. It's a necessary bridge and you just need to pull on your big boy or girl panties and get over it.

How do they protect our freedom? They take orders from a govt who is controlled by liberal socialist who mock the constitution and have took away more rights from the people. Repeating that we should be willing to give up a little freedom to keep this country safe. The biggest threat to our freedom is our own govt who the military works for n takes orders. What are they going to do when the 2nd amend is repealed,or when govt spending collapses our economy? They will be the ones who show up at our homes to take our guns by force and forcing americans to comply with obamas laws. The real heros who protected our freedom are ww2 vets, border patrol and the middle class

Us weekend warriors are the ones fighting for your freedom while you sit at home or at your job sipping your latte. While I was in Iraq for 12 months fighting for this country where we're you at? "Weekend Warrior", you spend 12 months away from your family and never knowing if your gonna make it home, see how you feel. People like you are the reasons this country has fallen to shame.

They didn't fight a war for no reason. They took the war back over there. They got them all fighting against each other too even more than before. Sadly a bunch of good guys got killed in the process but make no mistake and what you cannot understand is that World War Three is happening right now. It's going on 365 24/7. It's not like the previous two world wars... not yet...and your micro brain cannot fathom what's to come. Sadly our own government is corrupt as well and that's a sad thing but it's not the soldiers faults for that.
