10% tested pos. for pot. Only 3% tested pos. for harder drugs. If they don't test for pot or its not aimed to sort those out, why do they have a report on the percent that tested positive?

According to a recent study in the New York Times the program only saw a failure rate from 2.6% of all welfare applicants and in most cases those failed tests were for marijuana use. In the meantime the state was forced to reimburse everyone who passed the test since they were forced to pay out of pocket. That reimbursement rate meant $118,140 was put back into the pockets of test takers at taxpayer expense.

When you take the number of people who were reimbursed and then subtract the amount of money that would have been paid out to the 2.6% who failed you are left with $45,780 in realized losses. Essentially the program costs more to run than the state would have paid out to people with a liking for marijuana.

No one knows the truth. I do know she had a bad day just like we all do. Drugs? That's just crazy. If you know this woman you should know for a fact this is false. Drugs? Come on now she wouldn't ever, and I do know that. I hope everything turns out good for her. This has got blown out of proportion!

She admitted she bought the pills off the steet and that she's addicted to them. She also stated she's been in rehab. Apparently your friend isn't who you think she is.

I don't even know where to begin with this statement. The tests DO target pot smokers to. It's part of the urine exam. Look into Florida's results from testing so far. Its showing it cost more then projected and they so far have found less to be drug addicts then they thought they would. Thats easy to check into. Google it. I don't know where you get they will only lose cash. If this were they case the testing would ONLY be done on those getting cash. This is not true either. Random testing covers many drugs. I know in the office I worked for the average cost was $190. It's not cheap. For those states that implemented testing, research their results. Florida the example I gave hit this wide open. They have drastically cut back on the number tested. To, those tests are so easy to beat. ON here I wont go into details, but in the workplace by professionals you would be shocked at who is beating them. I don't trust the testing, nor do I trust those who will regulate it. My top concern still would be the innocent kids. What it would then cost us with healthcare rising would be more then most of us could pay. Do you honestly think this will wake them up and they will stop using drugs? NO they just get smarter and wiser at beating the tests. No way could this state do blood or hair testing. We have a very large company in WV that I know for a fact does hair testing. Every employee and perspective employee gives examples. ONLY 1 out of 15 on average gets sent off. This is a multi billion dollar company. If they can't afford it, WV can't either. This man owns many businesses, he operates them all the same. You would be shocked.
For me if I were to get a vote, instead of spending my tax dollars on testing those now on welfare I'd rather see my contribution spent on programs to prevent it. Better school programs to target those that appear to only be waiting on the age to drop out. Give to the next generation, so we don't repeat this one. College, after school programs and even peer programs in school. We could make a difference in the next generation. NO we couldn't fix it over night, but in the long run if we concentrated more on educating kids and giving them more reasons to further their education they wouldn't need welfare. Most don't go to school because they cant afford it. Take my contribution and let them further the education plz, better then giving to someone that don't need a raise. Give it to teachers or schools to help this generation of kids be different.
Please don't trust Google or the Internet as your ONLY research Sources.....SCARY..

So, according to you, her father's health justifies her unstable behavior & assault of a store employee?? You're probably just as nuts (or high) as she is.

Logic. Learn it, use it.

I think you need to go back and read the news headline again. The cops recovered 2 Suboxone pills from her purse in which she told them that she does not receive a prescription for and admitted to buying them off of an individual on the street. I totally agree that there are people on this site that get on here and make things up on others for whatever reason is beyond me but this definitely isn't one of them. I commend this lady for being truthful and admitting her problem because I'm sure you know, most people can't or just flat out refuses to admit that they have a problem. She may not have wanted anyone to know about it. Maybe she's ashamed of it and that's why you nor anyone else knew about her doing the pills. I can speak for myself when I say that if I, which I'm not, we're addicted to pills or any other form of drug I wouldn't bounce around and tell everyone that I was taking pills. Most people keep that kind of thing to themselves. With all that I've said, I truly hope your friend gets the help that she needs. I also wish her and her family the best in their time of need. Happy Holidays

Dear lord, how childish is it to think all teachers are on drugs. Just cause they say someone on welfare is a mooch "DONT" mean they don't pay as much tax money as you.

Did you ever think that the teachers get to deal with all the moochers trashy children that have never been taught to respect people. They've only been taught of generational welfare is how one lives. Drug test welfare recipients first, then with the extra money that will be saved by the 65 or 70% that fail, we can use that money to drug test teachers. Not teachers first. And for the record this person was an aid, not a teacher.

Ill use my logic when you learn to read....I NEVER once justified her actions.....I said her family didnt need the extra crap being said,I could care less if you think im high or nuts I have a heart and I wont argue on Topix.....She fessed up to all charges to the police but I guess thats not good enough for the fine judgemental people in here.

It's good enough for me. She confessed to her wrong doing. She didn't do what most people do and blame it on someone else or just flat out lie about the whole situation. Most people aren't happy unless they are gossiping about others or meddling in others lives which means their lives are miserable. When truth be told, they probably have at least one thing on their background as well. Whether it be just a simple charge or worse. Not one of us is any better than the other.

LMAO!!! If people are seriously concerned with what's being said on Topix, they've got bigger problems than their apparent mental instability.

The only reason her or her family know anything about anything being said on here, is because of "friends", like yourself, who find it necessary to report every little bit of gossip they see on here.

Move on, loser.

Some of you better be putting kids in different schools. My daughter watched one aide drag a handicap girl down a hall way. Another kid got pushed and told move the fu** out of my way by a coach down there. As a parent I am scared of this school and wish it would close down. Kids barley do any work in classes. That's the truth !

It would be hard to drug test all people receiving aid from the state. The threshold of income received and still getting assistance has also went up. True, lots of working poor do get some type of help.

The only hope is that parents/teachers try to set a good example for children so that the next generation will be proud enough to work for a living.

Taxes would go sky high if we took all children from drug users in the system - true. There is no place for them and oft times some people take in foster children to make a living without working and don't take good care of the children - BUT SOME DO.

I'd rather have someone on assistance useing drugs, than someone NOT who robs, assaults or kills to get the money. You gotta take the lesser of the evils here.(just my opinion)

And no I don't do drugs - only drink a couple of occassions in 6 months or so and I do pay taxes and get nothing from the system.

That's awful. No surprise. They don't tell many parents . RHS lose teachers or fires, teachers quit because they know stuff is going down. I know of two aides they fired from that school.
