Does anyone out there fell its fair to terminate a excellent manager over a misinterpreted phone conversation? But then do nothing to a supervisor that distributes porn material using company equipment on company time. This happened to me in late Dec 2010. The misinterpreted phone conversation was over the exact wording of a vehicle accident that involved no injuries and was not a life threatening issue. The words that were misinterpreted were, " I hit a vehicle in the back end and they left the scene" and " A vehicle backed into me and left the scene". This could me misinterpreted on a cell phone conversation late at night under a accident situation of distress. There was never any question of falsifying when the offic1al report was written up. But there is a complete right and wrong when it comes to distributing pornographic materials on several occasions. It strongly feels to me that it was a more personal issue then a question of honesty. And guess what supervisor backed the phone conversation story, yes your right, the supervisor that sent all the porn. Go figure. and by pure coincidence, this same supervisor has a brother that was accused of having a under aged girl in the back of his van a few weeks prior and i had to suspend him for that. Overall, the majority of the cable techs, in the Charleston area, are excellent and very trustworthy individuals and would let them in my house any day of the week, if I was there or not, but its always a few rotten apples that gives the rest a bad name. You know who im talking about, Jerry. I am proud of the progress I made with taking care of the customers of Charleston but to be back stabbed by a 2 jealous Directors and a dishonest supervisor. Speaking of 1 of the jealous directors, I would question how she can work 9 to 4 each day with a lunch hour but claim a 40 hour week, im sure you know who im talking about, don't you Duska. Well needless to say, if your not in a certain click, I guess they will do whatever it takes to get rid of you. Oh by the way, West Virgina workforce management investigated this and found it to be a wrongful termination but due to the work-at-will rule in this state, they could not force them to reverse the decision. If Suddenlink felt they were right in their decision of termination, you would not be entitled to unemployment comp. Suddenlink never challenged the claim.

Well dont feel bad becuase I was the first to be stabbed in the back by Jerry Smith. He is the kind of guy who you think is your friend then uses the personal information to help him get ahead and get you fired.

From what I hear, that is the direction the company is going to with the management nowdays. I have spoke to several employee's that say he will use Dave Bach and Bob Leggs name to threaten people.

One of the favorite things he likes to threaten techs with is the "Manager QC Form". He make sure everyone knows they will never pass it, and once they have enough of them, he lets them know he will see they get fired per Bach and Leggs new policy's.

None of the ones I have spoke with has enough confidence in the HR department anyways, let alone having a guy who will make it a personal mission to ruin someones career. I honestly think Jerry gets a thrill from the attention he gets and the fact he can get someone in trouble.

He has lead many technicians down the wrong path towards termination, then claim he never had anything to do with it. Look at how he acted as a technician. Now with an ego the size of Texas, its not a good combo for a manager.

Honestly, who liked this guy before or even now. No one.

But when you have a regional office that allows this to go on, I can bet the KPI numbers look bad. I think it is funny when they blame all the issues on technicians seeing how they are ALOT of new faces around the offices now, but the same management is still in place. Come on corporatem you should be looking at the leaders, because the followers are doing only what they are told.

In closing, Jerry needs fired. Sorry for your situation, I heard you was a good guy.

Well since being new to this site and stumbled onto this. I've got some input for the Sudden Link bashing. How about this, a Sudden Link Supervisor sleeping with an employee on company time and the employee become pregnant, humm wonder if compensation would pay for this. LOL Not Hardly, the husband of the employee paid for the child to be born not the Supervisor. I have a friend that this happened too. Sudden Link peers nor the HR Department done anything regarding the overnight stays for supervision and employee's on the company dime for a night to become a freak in the sheets. Sounds like to me, our over charged bills for cable; internet and phone service is for their sex addiction. Maybe they should hire an in house councilor for the addiction. Also, do they perform drug testing, if so? They may want to get a refund for the test they are performing.

I don't know how the HR Director at Suddenlink does her job. She doesn't seem to be the brightest person around. If she has anything to do with these decisions, I can understand the results!

I think the first thing required of a HR Director, is to show up on time on a daily basis. To arrive at 9am and depart usually at 4pm daily, is not a very good example of a good leader. To flat out lie on your time sheet is a violation of Suddenlink policy and core values. Then turn around and accuse someone else of falsifying and insist on their termination. I guess it is true with Suddenlink, that you can sleep your way to the top. What was it that Jerry Smith said 1 day, Duska had her head so far up Karen Broaches ass, you didn't know where Karen ended and Duska began and that appears to be equal to the existing management as well. A normal corrective action, through HR, should take no longer the 72 hours. In 1 case it took Duska 5.5 weeks and another 3.5 weeks. I guess if she would give a min of 40 hours in a week, maybe she could complete her job on time. She should be terminated for all the dishonesty that she has committed over the last few years instead of trying to get rid of the the one's that try to do a honest job. Such a disgusting organization. Dishonesty is running ramped.

I have to totally agree with the above post. I have been told by more than one that she doesn't have a degree...How does she maintain that position? By ASSUMING the position?

Well, I know that is how she got it. Not really sure how she maintains it. To my understanding, she was originally hired in as a CSR and has no HR experience or college related degree. But then again, if you have a nice butt, that question is forgotten. I did run in to her the other day, that nice butt must have disappeared with her husband because it is now pretty huge. Looks like she has put 50 lbs on since her divorce. But when your messing around, what do you expect him to do, but leave. Just another example of what the 2nd post states. Hormones gone crazy at the cable company.

Just to clarify, no college degree at all! Some classes, maybe, but not a degree!

Well you do seem to be well informed. I just viewed her facebook page (thanks to a mutual friend) and she has really put the weight on. She is now wearing gut buster tops and didn't see any pics of the wide rear but was told its huge. She has just purchased a new Range Rover to assist in roving the valley for men and seems to be a regular at a few local watering holes. I was told she's totally out of control and she has told several that someone has her back at work. Well with that said, why does a company like this have someone without a degree in her position? Doesn't seem like proper protocal for a successful company in the 21st. century with all the work related litigation thats being tried across the country and even more so in WV. I think it's clear that management is asleep at the wheel here. I'm sure (low Level) management is viewing this forum and has dared anyone from the inside to respond. Someone (thats been affected) needs to come forward and take these people to the mat. I'm sure Cequell management has no knowledge of this. And in closing I was told her daily famous remark is "I'm so tired".

Well its funny you mentioned that " I KNOW ". Because what the person said about the sup and employee sleeping together in the building is fact. And as for looking in the mirror, I see that I have a very large rear end and I really don't care that she bought a new vehicle or hags out at the bars, that's her business as long as its on her time. But I do have a issue when she interferes with an advancement that I was the original selected one. She violated company policy by handing the Reg VP a resume for her best friend, that missed the cut off date to apply, and then insisted the position be awarded to her best friend that wasn't even an employee of suddenlink. I then filed a complaint and they re-posted the position, by which her best friend didn't apply this time, and this time they awarded the position to a guy off the street that says he has had 3 lives, drives for NASCAR, and is the chosen one. That is a great pick for a supervisor position. I have given suddenlink, and previous cable companies here, the better part of my life and I have performed well above average in the positions I have worked, but to lose out on a position so that a HR Director can try to slip in a friend of her's is outrageous. Then when i go to my Director, I am treated like crap and talked to like im a 2 year old. I then report this to corporate, because its a HR issue and I cant go to the HR dept here because it involves them, Corporate sicks the regional upper management and my director on me again. Its funny, because when the position came open, it was due to the existing supervisor quitting, I was good enough to fill that position, on a daily basics, until they hired this guy off the street, but not good enough to have the position permanently. So looking in the mirror doesn't change things, it just proves things. Proves the old saying " its not what you know, its who you blow". Maybe I need to follow her lead to advance in this company, problem is, I would have to borrow her knee pads because I dont have my own set and im older then I used to be and it would be hard for me to spend a lot of time on my knees.

Bottom line, she is not qualified to do her job and she doesn't do her job! She uses her authority to help people she chooses and the heck with the rest. She is not an equal opportunity employer! The good employee gets screwed over! And as far as doing things on her own time, some of it probably isn't on her own time. Does she ever work 40 hours?

West Virginia is an 'at will' employment state.

That means you can be fired for any reason at any time by your employer.

They usually try to go through with write ups and that sort of thing so they don't have to pay you unemployment, but they can fire you any time they want for whatever reason they want.

Of course that doesn't include the discrimination laws. They can't fire you for your race, sexual oreintation, etc...

Well, I think the author of the above post is the Queen herself. I'm not speculating on the big butt it is BIG. No, I don't look like Angelina or Brad but I dont look like a beached whale either. I have good car not a Rover but its a safe 5 star rated automobile. I do have a few things that I am very thankful for that she doesn't have not only do I have a college degree but true friends that I didn't earn on my knees. I have done a lot for my company lately not only do I show up I do my job to the best of my ability and work with some awesome people...I would be thrilled to see someone terminated over posting on this forum. One thing for sure it WILL NOT be me.

Im Bill Heaton and I want anyone who reads this, to know the 1st entry is about me. The problem is, im not the one who entered it, however, I can verify that the information entered is true and factual. I made a 5 page letter about the incident in January and sent it to Jerry Kent and the local VP. They were the only 2 that I sent it too. There was no mention of the activities of the HR director and her busy part time position she has, in the letter. But, all the parts related to my termination were in the letter and almost word for word as it is in this forum. That raises a question, who would the VP let see this letter and who would take that information and put it on this forum. It appears that the ones you trust are not as trustworthy as you originally thought. I feel bad and betrayed by Suddenlink, but I will get over it. Life moves on. I think Suddenlink Corporate should take a good look at the relationship that go on within the Charleston organization. Im not saying sexual relationships, im saying the personal relationships of scratching each others back and the favors that go on to protect the lazy and weaker peoples from losing there jobs. That alone would concern me more then caring about who is sleeping together. I came to Suddenlink with 1 goal and that was to treat everyone equal, that is hard to do when you have directors and up pulling favoritism for the ones that have something on them or someone they know or could leak something that could affect their future. Kinda weird, but thats how things work there. Its no wonder there are so many plant issues, some are more concerned with protecting their weak image then doing there job to the utmost potential. So to you, Jerry Smith, you can stop running around and telling people that Im the one who done this and im throwing people under the bridge, because to be honest, it has your stink all over it

I don't get it. Who cares if he is gone, I never liked his arrogant attitude anyways. He always shared with everyone manager meeting conversations like some other supervisors still do. Walked around with his belly pushed out and letting everyone know they are expendable. I'm glad he is gone, and a few other mentioned here need to be on that path as well.

Sounds exactly like one of the employees that I told them to do there job verses hiding in there truck behind a closed down business or hanging out at there house while on the clock. Im sure you know you are one of them and the cause of the majority plant issues going on due to your laziness. Struggling for a future that you are destroying on your own. Your running out of hiding places.
