Why does Kanawha Co. have so many run down, abandoned, junky, trashy, burnt out, or otherwise disheveled homes and properties. It really seems like this area has a disproportionate number of lazy, irresponsible people who take no pride in their homes/properties, and do nothing to keep them up. If you were dropped out of an airplane in a lot of these places, you'd think you were in a 3rd world country.

We know that explosive growth is bad but growth at a reasonable level is necessary for a city or county to sustain itself. So why be against it? Could it be caused by obesity or inbreeding? No, consider an organization wanting to orchestrate a land grab over time. You would want to take small steps, unnoticeable if possible, over time to depress property values. This would be accomplished by putting your members in positions where they could quietly accomplish this.

If you are retired then you might not care at first, until you start wondering what happened to your police and fire protection. When you try to sell so you can relocate near your children you discover that your home has no market value and finally after you are both gone your children say “They worked so hard all their lives, is that all its worth?”.

You can thank the Charleston-Kanawha Housing Authority for that, and for receiving the "National Slumlord of the Decade" award recently.
