Im from Charleston and I hear the older heads talking about Tyson, Melvin Walker, and Robert Alexander. I cant find any films of them however, I played against Moss' DuPont squad in football and it was unreal to watch his display of talent at times. Does anyone have a solid opinion based on actually watching all of these guys and who was the best?

I played football for CHS back in the day and played against Melvin Walker and I am telling you he is the best all around football player I have seen come out of this area. Yes, Randy Moss is great and it is hard to only choose one, but I have.

My Brother who is a year older than myself played for the HIGH also and said that Melvin was pound for pound the toughest dude he ever tried to tackle.

Answer: Melvin Walker!

And please don't forget The Banks Claude Geiger. He was a BEAST!

How many of you remember 'Sam Huff' One of the greatest Football players that ever played the game. Lots of great athelets out of the small Schools of WV. Ask me to name the great ones, all of them were great, from Pridmore to Mary Lou R, all were great atheletes.

Mike Tyson tried out for the Olympics in L.A. Until he was injured. Rumor was he use to out run cars on Lee St. Heck of a return specialist at Iowa State. Moss couldn't come close to Tyson's speed.

Football - you can go with one of the Dean boys (Al or Jerome) from Charleston High & Capital High! Still the Hardest hit I have seen in my life at any level of football was the hit Jerome put on a dude from East Bank!
Q. Wilson f/Weir; D. Scott f/Capital;
R. Moss , nuff said on his career!!!

Basketball - in my time, I have seen many...
The Nabors boys from Beckley!
The Baker boys (Barry or Garry) f/ Williamson! Anthony Strauthers (sp) from Williamson or even Mark Cline!! There was so many very good players you can name...

Track - Jett! D. Cunningham!! & R. Moss was just pure fast for never solely concentrating on track..!

Tough question , I can name a lot of very good players I have seen since the early 80's to now ...

Ford Davis - Charleston High, was a beast in football & basketball
Greg Dennis - CHS basketball
Wayne Casey, Robert Lee - Stonewall basketball
Breckinridge, Hicks, P. Henry - SC basketball
