Can anyone tell me why the cost of renting a house or an apartment have risen so sharply in such a short while? I'm considering moving to the Charleston area shortly and I looked at rentals about 6 months ago and the prices were much lower then. I'm wondering why the jump in prices.

Greed Greed Greed Greed. It is going to come back and bite greedy land lords in the butt soon. Tough and strict enforcement of rental living conditions is going to send many greedy rental owners to jail. Its long overdue. No more moldy living conditions with danger for renters. Time to bust the land lords down to what they really mostly are - criminals.

I agree take note. Greed is at the bottom of all the rental hikes. Renters have rights and and they need to be aware that there are laws to protect those rights.

Possums, instead of complaining about what others are doing, why not help yourselves? Buy a home instead of renting. I bet you could find a place there for say $100,000.00 or so. Nothing I would live in, but for you it would be fine. First you need to bathe and dress in apropriate clothing and seek employment. Put down your crack pipes and jugs and concentrate on what is important in life. Glad I could help. TaTa for now Lady of Quality
