Not trying to be disrespectful. Just saying if he was here visiting, why would he have enemies that would want to kill him? Where were his relatives and why doesn't someone know who shot him? Normally 2 + 2 = 4. Violence and drugs go together. If it's something else such as a random shooting then I'm sure the community will have an outpouring and help solve this horrible crime for fear they could be next. If it's to cover other crime up then they will shut up and continue business as usual.

Greg was visiting his family and this person that murdered him was a thief burglarizing his families home. 2+2 doesn't always equal 4, and why assume anything; why say anything except SORRY to his family for this great loss. This makes no sense and i'm praying for his sweet mother around the clock!

Does it really matter why? Greg was good people, a great friend and didn't deserve this no matter what the situation may have been. RIP bro, you will be greatly missed.

now why does it have to have any drug involvement???? he come to reunite with his family he has alot of family here that he wanted to spend time with he was born here went to school here. he just wanted to see his family. you are right ppl are afraid to talk for fear of their own life and safety of others. i dont think it was a cover up i believe it was a robbery gone wrong.i pray for the family its a sad to think you cant visit family anymore who ever did this may GOD HAVE MERCY ON THEIR SOUL

Once again, I am not trying to disrespect. Where was his family? Did they not see the killer? Turn them in!!!!!! The killings in this town need to stop and the only way that will happen is people speak up and stand up for their loved ones and their community and see justice for them! I am just stating there is way too much crime in this community. I am very sorry for his mother, she deserves to see justice for her son!

I did not know Greg that well, but he was my daughters best friend. It doesn't matter how or why it happened. No one can assume anything, because you weren't there. My daughter lost the love her of life and she is hurting bad. Have respect for the ones that are left to deal with this senseless act of violence. My thoughts are with his parents who lost there son, his family and his friends. My love always to my daughter as she try's to deal with this loss. RIP Greg

Your wrong it does matter when the crime and violence is causing our kids to get killed or become murderers.....the person who done the shooting was also someone's son.....It does matter...we need to teach these kids to turn away from the type of life styles that lead to violence. They are all someone's son and need to know crime and violence is not the answer, whether its burglary, drug dealing,or murdering. It's all pathing a way to the grave at an early age and causing grief on families that don't deserve it! So you are wrong, IT DOES MATTER!! The way to stop it is to make sure justice is served. It matters, our kids matter!

From the KFVS website, "Charleston Police officers found Gary Jr. shot at government assistance housing at 706 Grand Avenue.

While processing the scene, officers found several pounds of processed marijuana that were packaged in several bags and vacuum sealed in plastic wrap.

Phillips was at the scene and told police he was paid by Gary to assist in the distribution of marijuana. He told police that Gary paid him $200 to drive Gary's car from Washington state to Charleston. Phillips also told police Gary had grown the marijuana in Washington state.

According to the probable cause statement, Phillips says Gary had sold about two pounds of marijuana to several people in the Charleston area and that Gary had asked him to "watch his back" while was selling the marijuana because he did not know the people in the area.

Phillips told police he thought whoever killed Gary was motivated by the marijuana and large sums of money from selling marijuana.

Phillips said Gary was selling the marijuana for $250 to $500 an ounce.

While it is sad that a family lost a loved one, to overlook the fact that the drug trade played a huge role in this murder just because it might be seen as insensitive would be irresponsible. Young black males are dying in huge numbers all across the country because of drug dealing. Rap artists have glamorized the money and fame and women---and they are laughing all the way to the bank depositing the money stained with the blood of our young black men. More young black men will be killed or incarcerated this year in this country than will graduate from college. That should not be.

Now we have 2 sides to the same story.....same outcome....Drug dealing once again...murder once again....When you think it can't happen to you or your family....YOUR CRAZY!!!! There ain't no rims worth your life...just like for the addict there ain't no high worth you life.....People need to care enough about there loved ones to raise enough hell to put a stop to some of this insanity. Human beings are worth more than this. And as the other person mentioned it is blood money and one day everyone will meet God and people accepting this blood money will pay the price before the Almighty.

Worse than I thought...drug dealing out of government public housing. Somebody needs to being paying closer attention to whats going on in the government housing. Sure makes me want to return to the mail box and recover my check to IRS and MO Dept of Revenue. I feel guilty for working, paying in taxes that purchase property for this activity. What a fool I am. Who's to blame....once again us hard working dumb ass taxpayers.
