I am sending this out to all who will hear it and react. It sadden me to see the condition of Charleston High School this last week.
The roof in the older part of the school is leaking so bad that there were trash cans in the hallway to catch the water.

I think this disturbed me the most because we as a community could help. We are all concerened about taxes and state cuts, but my question is; Where is our community support?

I was so proud to see all of the parents supporting the Trojans during the year. How supportive we all were.

How can we take some of that support and insure our children have a safe place to attend school? Cuts in the budget does not mean we should sit back and let the state and school regional offices worry about this. We as a community are physically and some are financially able to help fix the leaking roof.

What happened to us? I have read and been a part of this community doing some wonderful things in this area, but our school is falling down around us. What are we as a community going to do about it?

Please form a committee with the school system and find a way to improve the conditions of our high school. Cuts or no cuts, our children should have better conditions.

Let's go Trojan community..........

Perhaps a few of the following individuals could donate towards the repairs. We as taxpayers, will find it more and more difficult to continue to pay these wages and physically maintain our community. Our dwindling local economy can NOT afford these vultures!

INDIVIDUAL Annual Wages

Lonnie Lutz $149,850 (County)
James Littleford $132,912 ($3k raise last year)(School)

Richard Smith $110,171 (City)
Vilardo $104,190 (School)
Poffinbarger $91,796 (School)
Curtis Buescher $91,678 (City)
McMillan $90,590 (School)
Terry Diss $88,809 (School)
Tina Winings $87,458 (School)

Bryan Baker $74,120 (Police)
Richard Edwards $73,479 (Fire)

The board is scheduled to vote on authorizing the repairs at its meeting tonight. It will also vote on a budget fund transfer that could help pay for future work, as well as hear a report on a sales tax that might also be a funding source down the road.

Coles County voters decisively defeated such a referendum last year.

He said it's "possible" the school district could pursue another referendum on the tax but considerable board discussion would have to take place first.

I can see where they need a tax referendum. Lets start with lowering some of those outrageous salaries. Try getting a job and earning that kind of money in the private sector.

I need some of that Coles County stimulus money. Raise taxes and pay those people listed above better.
