We have all been there as drivers...I mean not paying attention (changing radio station, ipod, dialing, etc.).

Again, we have all been there and done stupid things in all of life...whether we admit to ourselves or not.

I feel bad for BOTH families.

Nothing (unless an emergency) is important enough to risk your or someone elses life at the wheel. Common sense-if you're texting someone , you're not looking at the road...a recipe for an accident or disaster. Very terrible situation...

So why didn't he get 18 months in prison? Linda didn't have a choice. This case will set a presidence. Every day I see people driving and coming over the yellow line to abruptly yank the wheel to return to their proper lane. Seconds away from a head on impact.
I think the 18 months in prison would have had more impact for this man and many others

I feel sorry for both families. But why would you drive with headphones on, i mean seriously, If your ipod is so important why not buy the adapter that lets you listen to your ipod through your car stereo system? I mean texting while driving is bad enough and to add headphones to it? What in the hell was he thinking? Hopefully this woman can find herself again.

He should of been charged with vehicular assualt. That is just COMPLETE STUDIDITY to text and drive. His life is not anymore important than anyone elses. People need to use common sense.

"Miralia pleaded guilty to vehicular assault and apologized to Kupiec and her family during the sentencing."

He did reread the story. He plead guilty. At least he admits he was wrong instead of trying to blame the lady for being in the street like that drunk broads friends try to claim about her killing melanie morretti in Ashtubula. If you want to read a story that makes you sick read that one! She hit and killed her and injured her friend and was drunk so she fled the scene and hid out for days, until finally turning herself in because they knew they were looking for her. Just seeing the damage to that womans car made me sick, she didn't just tap her. She launched her over the hood!

What he did was wrong and hopefully her family will go after him in civil court to seek damages!

suspended his license for 4 years????????? Talk about an injustice. Noone was killed. People with DUI that kill people are back on the street with their license in no time. I guess we make up the law as we go

I can't believe that's all he got! A freakin slap on the wrists! That lady was smart as hell with two master's and she's reduced to barely even being able to talk and thats all he got! The country needs to get stricter on our punishments to make sure people do what their suppose to do and when they screw up they learn not to do it again. With others learning! Bulls**t!!!!

Miralia should have been sentenced to the 18 months max, provided under the law, in addition to losing his license for LIFE. Very weak sentencing considering this woman and her families life will be forever changed.

In Aussie its illegal to text message or even answer your phone unless you have a hands free device in your car it should be the same everywhere. Its really bad when you have to create a law when it should just take common sense.
He knew he hit some thing you know if you hit a bump in the road I hope she sues his butt

Listening to music on headphones? Stupid, but not unlike listening to a seriously loud system. Texting while driving? Worse than being drunk and driving. Honestly if you set up conditions to where you do not even notice running down a pedestrian then you have absolutely no right to be behind the wheel.

We should institute driving rules like the Germans. Screw up once, you lose your license for good. Seriously, driving is a privilege, to me personally a joy, and one that comes with the responsibility to undertake it to the best of ability. Want to listen to your headphones? Stay at your home or Starbucks or where ever you think you need to chillax. Want to text? Park the car, order a cab, have Mom drive for you, cuz you ain't got that thang we call common sense.

I'm calling for auto-makers to install media deadzones in their products, that way no one can even try to act like a moron and endanger their fellow roadway participants.

I mean this guy took a woman with two master's degrees and reduced her to saying something like 'I want my brain back'..... Dammm

I agree! How could you NOT know you hit something. I hope she takes him to civil court. I know money doesn't solve everything or make you happy, but I am sure she has some medical bills etc.

I can't believe this monster only got 6 months. Beacause of his selfishness and cowardess and addiction to his phone, he killed a part of this woman's brain. He should have rc'd at least 10 years. Let his prison mate shove a cel phone where the sun don't shine.

Idiot, idiot, idiot. I see these idiots in my neighborhood every day. Zooming through the neighborhood like it's an expressway and talking on the cell phone while I walk my young children. Slow down people! It's not worth it!

Six months for destroying a woman's life? Wow...all people who drink and drive, text and drive, talk on cell phones while driving...hightail it to Chardon and you'll get a pass. My condolences to the lady. To the criminal...you're a disgusting man who should be in prison for at least twenty years.
