Seriously? Why do people have to make politically motivated comments on every single story? It is extremely tiresome.

Why combine 2 stories into one? This is so confusing to read. Great that the Lake is frozen....now we can skate to Canada from Cleveland.
Also interesting to know we have about 95 inches of snow to date.
Once again, our fabulous Columbus Dispatch completely misses the boat....the headline is rediculaous.

Great! In 6-8 weeks many of these same people will be cheering as they are rescued from the ice because it broke up. I look forward to that coverage too.

OSU Grad you may want to go back to school for some meteorology training. When the lake freezes over the lake effect snow essentially stops giving those folks some relief. The two topics are very closely linked together.

OSU Grad, you're not making much of a case for an OSU education. My 1st grader learned about this stuff just a couple of weeks ago and most people probably picked it up then too. When the lake freezes, the storms aren't picking up water from the lake, changing it to snow and dumping it on the east side of the lake. Duh.

The fact that Lake Erie is the shallowest Great Lake probably has a lot to do with its nearly frozen-over surface.

I wonder what kind of celebrating goes on for a huge moment like this? I wonder if the people that live there even know?

Personally, I think it's Canada's fault. Blowing all that cold air on poor old little Ohio.

Did you not see the comma in the head line?

damn what is so tough about this story it is not unrelated events like typical dispatch articals.

If you think this is hard to follow try reading the Lancaster Eagle Gazette or other papers under the same ownership
