While i don't agree with the language he does have a point. I don't pretend to have been to every city in the world but I've been to at least 15 major cities. Every one of them had an inner city area that was mostly minorities, every one of them was a drug infested s***hole, that was unsafe to walk through. Just sayin. 2+2=4
The reason you don't hear about successfully integrated, multi-income cities is because they are not newsworthy. Only the bigger cities, which have proportionately more crime, make the news, and "if it bleeds, it leads." I imagine there are hundreds of smaller cities where different races and those with different incomes peacefully co-habitate. I work near one--Buena Park, CA, and Norwalk is another. I recently travled the Oregon coastline and saw no-big-deal integration. As I said before, Greenwich used to exclude Jews from country clubs, blacks from housing, and Byram Puerto Ricans and Italians from "upper" social circles. I imagine minorities who live in the new Westchester housing will have less falsely stereotypical propensity to "degrade" the neighborhood. Get on with the integration and calm down; it's 2009, not 1959.

How can you say it wont degrade the neighborhood? I bet property values go down once the integration begins.

That's a HUGE "IF." But what does one "do" with a property value? Assuming you're planning to live in your home for several years (and not "flip" it quickly), how does a number on an annual assessment affect your daily life? I have friends in tony Carlsbad, CA whose house value has plunged (like home values throughout the country) 30% in one year because of the econoomy; this plunge happened several years after an affordable housing complex (still very clean, quiet, and well-mainatained by residents of all races) went in. My friends love their homes and community, so "property values" don't make much difference. There's also a question of how a lower number on a town real esate chart will cause more "degradation" than the value of community, which is priceless.

LOL, I was wondering how you'd twist this around to fit your segregationist world view.
The segregation I was talking about was personal choice not illegal institutional segregation.
You as a person can choose who you get to hang out with, on the other hand, your town, city or county does not have that choice and they must abide by the anti discrimination laws.
And yes, ethnic groups do tend to congregate with their own by choice, but in most cases the "other" is not excluded. This is done out of fear of the other, an unfounded fear, but a fear nonetheless.
So, by you applying unfounded stereotype behavior to everyone from a certain segment of society you are falsely creating an unfounded fear in your mind. You are letting your fears control your outward behavior to others. Extreme cases turn into racism, both covert and overt, and many times you are not even aware of the extent of your race phobias. Just look at the racist rants about this news story. Hummm, sorta proves my point.
Why bother getting into a conversation with a white supremacist, same goes for a black militant, my point is that stereotypes have become a short cut for most people, self segregation in college was absolutly hysterical as myself and my friends would laugh our collective azzez off watching, after a while we started to clue in others and got a larger roar. I can not blame people for exercising their own discretion as to whom they associate with, in my professional world I tell people that they should be able to move through all types of people and if they can not adapt they will be done, stagnated. Culture clash and failure to assimilate are the problems we face and as the mainstream media exposes more whites to AA lifestyle acceptance is wrought from tolerance.
When the minority community decides that they want the best for their children and are willing to do whatever it takes to give them the best then maybe my mind would change; unfortunatly in our current state of affairs I deal with individuals as individuals when we share common ground, mostly with regard to our kids. As for everything else I could not care less....

Consider another bit of reality that is probably too sophisticated for these out of town fanatics:

Most (but not all) of the communities that are listed are rural with limited capacity for high density, since they lack sewage treatment facilities. In rural towns in NY and CT it is common for the communities not to build such facilities as an infrastructural control against growth. Any growth that occurs has to be low density in order to accomodate on site septic instead. Furthermore, since developable land is scarse in our neck of the woods, most remaining land that is available has wetlands or similar constraints which further makes high density development problematic. In short, the idea of high density "projects" is something that could occurs in the cities, but not likely in these areas.

Someone should document the above statement; review the neighborhood just one year from it's completion. In two years it will be a run down drug infested shxx hole. It is a well known proven and documented fact that you can not ignore.
Will you fools ever stop with the racism?

Has nothing to do with racism.

Only has to do with the flawed "welfare mentality" of people who could give a crap about being productive, responsible citizens.

Those Westchester properties cost a fortune! Once again, the taxpayers will be paying through the nose just to stick poor minority people into wealthy towns.

Haven't had time to read all the comments yet, but I'm sure they're doozies today.

Why isn't this being banned as racial discrimination? If the standards being used are race rather than economic class that sure sounds like what it was. What would be the reaction if the headline were changed to read "whites" instead of "nonwhites"?

Hey Nijjer, who gives a **** about your opinion? You are probably (maybe) smart enough to know the truth about Nijjers and the housing projects, but apparently do not have the baxxx to admit it. Nijjers ruin everything within their reach, it is a proven, documented fact.
I won't even attempt to argue with you (or ask what type of community you live in) but I've personally observed many "black" communities such as those on Martha's Vinyard and Julian, CA, where sizable African-American populations live as quietly and prosperously as any "white" middle class neighborhood, while contributing much to these communities.
