Chapel Hill needs help! We have the worst phone company on the planet that charges for internet that does not work! Crazy prices for utilities - electricity/gas - we keep losing businesses -(knights pizza)- the town has nothing to do and I have never seen a school system like this in my life! The teachers and bus drivers cause constant drama! Is something in the water?

One phone company means a monopoly and sucky service. Utilities are going up everywhere. This local school is one of the best. The parents are the problem with school.
Any business in Chapel Hill has a hard time getting started. 1 reason is the dumb ass people that own the rental buildings. They charge a crazy price for rent and guess what?? The run off business and sit empty. Some of those units have never rented. We have a good town that just needs more God and less crap. Together we can have a good town.

In three years of living in Chapel Hill my phone nor Internet have ever been off and the prices are better than most other towns for service. My daughter goes to CHES and it is one of the finest schools in the State(one reason I moved to Chapel hill), as ghost light pointed out buisnesses have to be able to make money to stay open. I love Chapel Hill and would not move anywhere else. I drive to Nashville to work and this is my choice.

Srsly I have seen your comments on several topics and you really need to get a life and move out of chapel hill. You are what's wrong with this town. You are a nasty individual, saying such horrible things about people on the internet.

I actually agree about the internet and phone prices in Chapel Hill. I know we live out in the country, but $80 for local phone and slow DSL internet bundles are really extreme. United knows theres no other option so they jack up the prices for extremely sub par speeds. Athena broadband covers a few areas of Chapel Hill through their wifi internet, though its still fairly high priced but is a better option than Uniteds internet.

It would be nice if the town started up their own fiber internet network like Chattanooga. It would attract a lot of businesses and new residents to gigabit internet speeds at a fair price.

does anybody else's cell phone work here? I've tried all the companies and about 6 different phones & doggone if I can make a call without dropping somebody or signal going in and out.! I've stood in the yard . Pointed N, S, E & W. Driven down the street.
Everything but climbed the telephone pole in Hooterville.
If anybody has any pull with Sprint, Verizon, etc. Tell them we need more towers!!
Heaven forbid you ever need 9-1-1

I had the same problem and was going to need internet and a Verizon appointed cell phone that needed to work. Once I had the internet installed by United I called Verizon and told them I needed the phone to work for my job and was missing calls incoming and out going. They sent me a wireless range extender free of charge. It works awesome but you have to have internet. So just letting you know that's one route for cell service, mine was horrible before the range extender.

I appreciate the info, Single Dad! I will definitely check into that... Oddly it shows you in NC instead of TN so I'm not sure what's going on with this blog- but I reckon there are dead cell areas all over the country.. Thanks so much

I agree with the above comments. The internet service is horrible. But United is really the only option in this area and have a monopoly, so they can charge whatever they want. Hopefully in the future another internet provider will come to town and the prices and services will improve.

that seems to be one problem with the range extender is showing a different location than reality. Not really sure how or why but it does work for not dropping calls and makes cell service reliable. I missed hundreds of calls before I got tHe extender.
