The plane was manufactured in 1946? That's your first hint right there that something is wrong! Cash For Clunkers took in cars from 1997 because any vehicle (plane or car) from 1997 is ancient, much less 1946! What is anyone doing still using a plane that old?

1997 is ancient? What are you 12? Ever heard of a collector? Guess we should burn everything in the street when it gets 12 years old.

A plane that old might look cool and pretty - in a museum! But no one should begin to think that it's actually useable. Collector vehicles have their place - pulled behind a truck in a trailer.

gman, do you realize that the space shuttles were built prior to 1997? And most commercial airliners are as well? Airplanes don't have an expiration date...unlike the rubber your dad was wearing.

First off cash for clunkers was to get less fuel efficient off the roads not because they were "ancient". It was also used to help the poor American car economy. Also there is this great thing call a search engine, it allows slow minded people to find interesting things on the internet. Also here is a great site to show Average Fleet Age from the FAA: http://av-info.faa.gov/GetFleetAge.asp

You’re dumb I’m not.
Enjoy!

gman, just curious.... If a plane is sitting on a conveyor belt, and that belt drove in reverse at the same speed the airplane was taking off at; would the plane be able to take off?

Dude there's planes all over the sky that old. Planes don't go to the scrap yard like cars homes.....

Eden Prairie crash in North Suburbs section of the website. Sorry that noting that fact offended one delicate flower. Someone needs a hug.

Virgo

The world is your oyster. There isn't anyone you're afraid to talk to or any situation you're afraid to place yourself in. The word 'extrovert' must have been coined just to describe you. You're the master of time at the moment, cutting through red tape and getting right to the heart of the matter. If you use the right words, you can make anyone see your point of view, even if they don't agree.
