Alrighty then! Let's make EVERY US Citizen pay the bill to repair them!

What a stupid thing for a representative of the 11th Pennsylvania to say. How totally stupid of you.

11th PA is stupid? You are the one that is misinformed. Most monuments are on the Gettysburg National Military Park. That is federal property and the local governments have no control over it or responsibility for it.

In 2006, there were three monuments vandalized and the locals didn't pay for repairs, the federal government and the tax payers payed for it.

Through they years many monuments have been damaged by vehicles and the Federal government and tax payers paid for the repairs.

The local Government doesn't maintain or pay for maintenance on GNMP property.

How did the cannon firing go? I didn't hear anything at my place.
Was at the PA monument for the ceremony. They spread the cannon out to five spots on the battlefield and the cemetary. It was ok. Was not as loud as people were making it out to be that it would.

I didn't think it would be all that loud, but hope they had a good turn out and brought a bit of money to the local businesses. Should have been a good weekend with this even, the start of the living history encampment, and the dog show in town.

This is in regards to the comment about "those of you who think this (Gettysburg) is hallowed ground.
I for one believe that it is and has been made so by the blood and lost hopes of those who died there a century and a half ago, the ones in blue and the ones in gray ... they were all Americans and should be honored by this generation.

The cannon deal is just absolutely INSANE. Why wasn't this issue ever brought up before this in order for the local people to have their say. But then again we are talking Gettysburg, the place where everything is done secretly and covered up. People think that this is going to be great and exciting. Just wait. Knowing from experience with just ONE canyon, plaster will crack in houses and your pets will experience anxiety attacks like you've never seen before. The monuments will crack and then the locals will have to pay to have them repaired again. I'm hating Gettysburg more and more each day.
Then Move! you obviously don't like history

The Blue and Gray bar is the worst place I have eaten anywhere near Gettysburg.
I hope you don't make the mistake of going there, the place isn't kept up. Ery well. It's sickening to me.
Oh, knock it off. This has nothing to do with the blue and gray. Now your just being sad.
