I was a RN at the VA in New Orleans...only the basement flooded. None of the patient care areas flooded. The massive building, two altogether, did not suffer any significant damage...I was there during the hurricane. All of the patient care areas were undamaged and all had recently been completely renovated over ths past several years. This is just another example of wasteful government spending. If the federal government was really concerned about the healthcare crisis in tn NO, it can easily reopen both VA buildings and serve both charity and VA populations. Instead they are taking advantage of the situation, to get a brand new facility!

...not really...but I would be very interested to see what a good investigative reporter would reveal....it's funny that in recent days the VA did publicity stunts saying how they are relocating nurses and techs to help out the crisis, "providing help to open 40 additional beds", when part of the building they are operating out of now, up on the ninth floor, had over 60 pt. beds alone including a separate facility on the 10th floor that was leased to a long term company...not to mention the recently renovated er which never rec'd damage has been converted into office space?

The central focus of our strike at Finley Hospital, is patient care and our right to speak up for our patients, particulary when they are at a very vunerable time in their lives. There are standards of care that should be in force and met cooperatively with the hospitals support. They are not at Finley! I am walking the picket line because I was reprimanded for speaking up about a major electrical safety issue for staff as well as patients. OSHA has fined them and still standards of care are not met.
