smoke and mirrors are cool... at a rock show ;)
demonizing, if i spelt that corrrectlleee, a particular item or behavior to distract the general attention from that which is truly harmful is a charlatan's trick...
bitching about an environment you choose to live in is a child's trick...
being at peace with one's environment is a reflection of being at peace with oneself...
wisdom is an adult trick...
lol...
laughter works for all ages and states of mind ;)
invest postitively in your environment and your environment becomes such...
invest negatively....
well, we got to see an example of what that breeds :)

IMO-We should also ban all aftershave lotions and perfumes, deodorants and anything else that will invade my breathing space and pollute the air around me. There are many many many chemicals in those products to choke a horse. Just think of what can be eliminated form the sensory region. Grills, bonfires, woodstoves, aut o exhaust, factory fumes,....ok ok but seriously now, a bar or restaurant owner should be able to decide for themselves on who they want to allow in THEIR place of business. Non-smokers can go somewhere else if they don't want to go there. Quit the crying..........

Tell ya what....Next time anybody is near enough for you to smell something on them-and ya think it stinks-tell them to leave the area-diner-bar-store whatever, cause it bothers/annoys ya and makes ya sick..by golly ya have those rights to NOT smell anything awful in your presence. Everyone write their senator/congressman and get another ban going NOW. By the time we're done banning stuff.....there'll be nothing allowable for us to be able to do..........

I don't understand why people in Nebraska think that it is so safe. Do you all realize what people in other parts of the country think of your city? For one thing, there is an EXTREMELY high crime rate. And the court system of Douglas & Sarpy county is a joke. I don't want to hear anyone stickig up for your poorly run government system. Police officers from Virginia all the way to California have openly talked to me about how rediculous and unorganized the city of Omaha and it's law system is. They give unfair sentancing and have no remorse to what they are doing to people. Example: putting kids on house arrest for not going to school. House arrest is for those who have commited serious crimes, but for not waking up in time to go to school? Just insane. People are ignorant and unfriendly in Omaha. I have had friends come visit with me when I go back to see family and they are from different parts of the country. The very first thing they notice is how isolated they feel around people. They feel that everyone is very judgmental and uncaring when they don't know who you are. Which is entirely true. And not everywhere you go is like that, so I want no one saying that to me. I have been to nearly every state in this country in the past 2 years so don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about. Obviously you haven't done or gone anywhere cause you are still rotting away in that wasteland. I hate how people say that everyone in Omaha is so creative. Yeah, okay? Another thing, I have been all around that city and knew all kinds of people, but none really struck me as creative or out of the ordinary. If someone dares to be different in Omaha you get stared at and treated like you did something horribly wrong. I put pink in my hair one time and I could count atleast 20 people that talked behind my back and made rude comments while I was just minding my own business, going to the store. Does anyone have anything to add about what they don't like about this place? Get out now, my advice to you. There is a world you are missing..
Then there is the senator who has a lawsuit against god. A safe haven law without age limits. Amongst the highest taxed in the U.S., with the biggest potholes, lowest literacy rates, disproportionate welfare recipients, high crime, drug abuse, mental illness, homelessness rates, etc. O! What a city! "God" (Catholics) Bless the Big Zero!!O!

I tried. I really did. A big stinky cologned man came into where I work, and I wanted to. I really did. I have to go outside to smoke with the mosquitoes and June bugs. But I just couldn't bring myself to be so rude.

And further more, if I have to pay unreasonable taxes to support the obese, ice cream eating, non-working, grill out everyday,(did I mention obese?) over-propagating (like rabbits), don't know where my litters are, free food, housing and medical recipients with car vouchers, I should have some say in the laws of the land. But, alas, I do not, because, the obese, catholic, christian, ice cream eating, non-working, grill out everyday,(did I mention obese?) over-propagating (like roaches), don't know where my puppies are, people......are more vocal.

It's possible to ask without being rude. Just say "Excuse me sir. What cologne are you wearing?" When he responds, tell him, "Thank you. I need to make sure NOT to buy/use that kind. " When he asks "Why?" Say "It makes it hard to breath and smells like hogcrap and roadkill mixed together. Have a nice day."

My family moved here from Maryland several years ago. My children were ridiculed for their clothes, hair color, music, etc. Sure enough, a few years later, those styles finally reached Omaha. Their school curriculum was one year behind.

I can't believe you criticize Nebraska after living in Maryland. I used to live in Maryland. Outside of Montgomery County, Maryland is full of rural trailer trash and city gang bangers. Baltimore is one of the most violent cities in the country, The Easrtern Shore is full of inbred KKK cross burners, and Western Maryland is full of fundamentalist hillbillies. The upper middle class in the Baltimore suburbs is full of men wearing 16 gold chains and women who dress like hookers, and the worst part is that they think they're really cool and sophisticated, but they're just clueless rednecks just like yourself.

Things change. I just figured the "Heartland" would be full of married for life, moral people. The KKK in the east is just about "as sharp as a pound of wet liver", to quote Foghorn Leghorn, but the racist, "Injun haters" here are worse. Go figure. Perhaps the only good thing to come out of Md. is H. L. Mencken. Or the Native Americans. You may be right. But in NE. we have not only racists, trailer trash, KKK, farmers,(Who violently insist they are ranchers), people afraid of wolves and mountain lions, but also high crime rates by virtue of people who, because of their lack of parental skills, vote for Mayors and senators who like to spend money on stupid stuff rather than squash crime. And we have been given a choice. Good to hear from you.

Every major city has it's "trailer trash, however Baltimore had H.L. Mencken. Omaha had Thomas Tibbles. Every major city has it's own hero of human rights. Here, it is the "Indian" who is de-humanized. We have our own class of degenerates who are racist. If the Euro-American wants to be buddy-buddy with it's children, rather than parent, we're on the same wavelenght.

<quoted text>Which brings my thoughts to the 'smoking' issue. It's similar to a fanatical religious movement. Smoker or non, aren't there worse carcinogens, toxins, pollutants to worry about? Everyone is in such a frenzy about "second hand smoke". I worry more about what's in my drinking water that will kill a fish (Omaha water has to be treated before used in an aquarium), and what pesticides, FDA approved food colorings, preservatives, etc. I consume. And why so many people I know have or have had cancer. It can't all be attributable to second hand smoke. To me, all the recent legislation and taxation concerning cigarettes is more about governmental control of the people than it is a health issue. Big Brother doesn't care about your health. Big brother cares only about itself. And how far it can push it's own agenda.
Personally, I hate smoking. But what I hate more is someone telling me what I can or cannot do. Everyone should be free to live their lives the way they feel. That is until their "rights" infringe upon mine. Me telling that you cannot smoke is equal to you telling me that I have to.

Here in Cali, smoking is not allowed in enclosed areas where I would be forced to breathe your smoke. However, outside is big enough for you to smoke and for me to find a place where I can't should I want not to.

Your right to smoke doesn't infringe on my right not to, nor does my right not to smoke infringe on your right to.

Then there comes the costs associated with medical conditions from a lifetime of smoking. Should my taxes pay for your lung cancer? Only if I expect your taxes to pay for my clogged arteries from a lifetime of gluttony, or treating my cirrosis of the liver from a lifetime of alcoholism (I am neither overweight, or an alcoholic). The point is that those living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Unfortunately, smoking is the pet cause currently.

If someone's smoking bothers me, I am free to walk away, or dine at another establishment. If I choose to patronize a bar where I know smoking and drinking will be, then I have no business whining about someone smoking, or drinking.

"Second Thoughts", I hate the smell of cig. smoke myself. I hate the thought of my tax dollars going to support the "needs" of illegal immigrants even more. Should my taxes pay for the cleaning up of waters polluted by the "ooops" of major oil industries? Should my tax dollars pay for the legal costs of the people the cops risk their LIVES to apprehend, and the judges repeatedly release? What, exactly should my tax dollars go for? Maybe roads without potholes? More foodstamps for the obese welfare people who drive the most expensive cars in the parking lot at the grocery store?

This is why people need to get behind President Obama . He will clean up places like Omaha. I am moving soon.I have been in contact with some friends in California we all are going to move to Kentucky or Tennessee.

We have a place in mind that sounds really ready for some new ideas and we are going to start our own colony . It will be totaly liberal and free from prejudice. It will be wonderful and this area will just be a distant memory.

Get behind Obama? Haven't you noticed our country leaning a little more toward Socialism? Everyone else has.

Let's see the Government owns our financial institutions, our automotive industries, regulations of our tobacco industry, homosexual marriages, universal health care, etc. We are fast becoming The Socialist States of Amerika,

Maybe if your irresponsible greedy friends on the right hadn't eff'd-up the country so badly and sent the economy into a tailspin, the government wouldn't have had to fix the problem. You sound like you're parroting Fox news. Think for yourself. Your party has offered NO solutions to this disaster of its own creation, just criticism of the current administration.
