My God to screw over the future of these kids for this is unreal. If college stupidy was a crime I would be on death row.

I bet the RA is a real puss. Take it like a man and take it out back.

Ease up??? When we have college students all over the country going on rampages over less and shooting up campuses?!?!?!?!? How many times (Other than Kent- which wasn't a student) did you hear about a student, or some PO'd adult, go onto a college campus and start showering bullets. Or even a high school.(Columbine, Virginia tech) What about the day care rampage not too long ago??
And you want America to ease up?!?!?
I pay too much tuition down there to "ease up". I want my kid, AND their PAID Resident Assistant (which IS a paid position that the student interviewed for, and worked towards) to be AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE. And not have to worry about some immature kids locking them in their own rooms.
What if YOUR kid needed assistance while they were being held against their will??
Tell me to ease up when my kid is 100 miles away from me and CRAP like this is (and WORSE) is happening around campuses ALL over the country. Funny thing, I texted him first thing and said "Did you know what happened to that RA?". This is NO LAUGHING MATTER, for the students, the RA's, the University, or America.
And my kid had no idea it had happened. I knew it wasn't him, but my first thought was--"That poor RA!!" He has enough sense to NEVER pull a stunt like that. besides, he has too make extra curricular activities to keep him busy, he has no time for community service too.
So, I'm sorry, I have to disagree. The country does NOT need to LIGHTEN UP. That's part of the problem. The parents of those 4 kids were TOO light. They should've known better than to pull such a "prank". No place on a college campus in 2009 for that sort of stuff. It's just not safe anymore. This is not the '70's.
You need to have a drink and relax. If this is the worst things those kids do, they have a good shot at being President of the United States. Times have changed, but apparently, college pranks have not - much. Shooting up a school is not a prank, it is a demented individual losing it. Big difference. And if you only knew what your kid will be exposed to at ANY college, you would probably go off the deep end. I suggest you find someone who actually had FUN in college back in the 60's, 70's or early 80's - and borrow their bong. You were the person who wouldn't have noticed you were locked in your dorm room because you were too busy studying all the time. Socialization is often more valuable when kids graduate from college these days than what their major was or what grades they got. If you can get along with people and have good social skills and common sense, you are way ahead of a lot of the straight A students who concentrated on scholastics and nothing else. LIGHTEN UP!!!

You people call this a stupid prank? You'd all change your tunes had there been a fire in this dorm and this guy could not get out of his room. Had he been your son and he died you'd all be singing a different tune then.
Oh my gosh - had there been a fire, someone would have had him out in a heartbeat. You are taking things to the extreme. Glad I had parents that let me grow up and learn from my mistakes, rather than try to create a little bubble world where I was protected from the big, mean world!! Sheesh - get a life. Better yet - let people make their own lives and have some fun. I'll bet you were just a TON of fun "back in the day"......

No Thanks, "gman". He handles himself in a VERY mature, gentlemanly manner, no need for me to interfere. Unlike you, I would bet money.
My kid, who is at OU, on several scholarships--1 from the School of Music, TYVM. Went on his very first interview, at the age of 14, ALL BY HIS LONESOME, and worked at said job, for over 2 years. After that, he took some time off to continue schoolwork, and when it was time for more work experience, he--again, ALL BY HIS LONESOME, did all the application work and interviewing, and AGAIN, was offered another job. Which he kept as long as he could, based on his high school, Post Secondary Education Option (that's college courses during high school), after school extra curricular activities, and his social life. And STILL managed to graduate with better than a 3.8 GPA. Go figure!!
So..."gman", before you hastily judge me and my upbringing of my kids, get the facts. And yes, I may have been a little over excited about that poor RA locked in his room not just once but TWICE, but what those boys did was WRONG. No doubt about it.
And let me tell YOU something, "junior", I served my country proud--USN, straight out of high school. My OU kid considered it, but not a good enough music program for his talent. He would've done this country proud! I come from a LONG line of military in my family, and they do NOT take kindly to "practical jokes" such as what played out.
Oh...And I also know the difference between there, their and they're. And to & too. And so does my OU son. Do you???
LOL - she did own you here, gman. I was laughing hard!!! Well done OU Mom - I may not agree 100% with the seriousness of all of this, but that was pretty classic.

Think again their OUBobcat -Playboy ranks OU as one of the top 5 party schools in America. The Flagship of the state education system outparties THE largest university in Ohio many times over.

Hey OU Mom, did your son ever go to Band Camp? Has he ever been laid? I'm sure you served all the sailors in the Navy very well. You need to relax, go take your meds and just calm down, it was a prank no one got hurt so stop playing the "what if" game. Besides this is nothing compared to what really goes on at OU on a nightly basis.

As a Navy veteran these alleged pranks are child's play compared to what we did.

These snot nose punks couldn't have handle the first 10 minutes of what we dealt with.

The school administration needs to take control of the situation. As a matter of fact it's time we cut state funding to this "party school" then let's see how funny this all is? It's not the obligation of taxpayers to pay for any college student's education. There are many students who graduate from college who work their way through school instead of freeloading off of the taxpayers.

Just think if they had to work a job to get through college there wouldn't be enough time for this bull to be happening.

"Prankster" is it???

You only wish you were as bright, good looking and popular as my son. I bet you come from a nice, classy family yourself. Way to make Momma, proud, "Prankster". Call people names, root on idiots who prey on the weaker AND authority figures. Are you EVEN college material?? How's Columbus State treating you??

Be careful, you may even ALREADY be friends with my son at OU.....so watch what names you spew. He runs in a BIG circle of friends.

Excuse me, I was married to the Navy, TYVM. Both my sons were borne to their Navy father- retiring this Dec after 20 years.

And, as a matter of fact, my son went to Band Camp 4 years. I've done 5. My youngest has done 2 so far. But our school district and our very intelligent and strict (although a Miami grad) band director has a VERY staunch policy on hazing, and your so called "practical jokes".

I KNOW what practical jokes my son has pulled and gotten away with. I know which he HASN'T gotten away with. And, believe it or not, I know very well what goes on at OU on a nightly basis. You idiots have NO CLUE who you're trying to argue with. I'm going to politely bow out at this time, as I can tell that I'm arguing with a bunch of uneducated, unethical, immature potheads.

And as far as my kids sex life.....NONE OF YOUR D**M BUSINESS. It has nothing to do with his OU education or whether or not he would've pulled some childish, dangerous prank like locking an authority figure in their room--AND gotten busted for it. And THEN boo hoo'd about it.

OU Mom- Out.

Nope, not in favor of legalizing pot, although there would be benefits to it. Unlike some people - I do look at both sides of an issue before making an educated, informed opinion. I don't show up to vote without having done my due diligence. And I too, am a vet - so I am hardly impressed with your "credentials". I worked, took out student loans (all repaid 20+ years ago, thank you), did service time, all to ensure I could handle my own educational finances. Yet, shock of shocks, I still found time to have fun, party some and pull some pranks. And as I completed my MPA, I also worked, and raised a family. Not looking for kudos at all, you do what you gotta do. "Snot nosed punks"... who are you, Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men"?? You can't handle the truth!!!

Hey all you LOSER ex-OU students. Maybe the standards of how normal, respectable students act have been raised. Sitting here reading all of the whining from you idiots reminds me of some of the things I HATED about college. To cry about how these "pranksters" have been treated shows exactly what a bunch of lowlifes you all actually are. And yes, I have a son at OU as well and, believe it or not, he doesn't find it necessary to "blow off steam" in that fashion. GROW UP LOSERS!
You call me a loser yet I am back at the school more successful and appreciative then ever with a new light shed on my career..I'd call that a victory. You people take all this to seriously and are quick to judge and I am quite frankly tired of reading all your crap. You don't know us, you weren't present at the situation, and you can only know as much as the media tells you..so why don't you just keep sitting at your computer thinking your on a throne with your "righteous and established" thoughts, but this time keep it to yourself because you don't really know jack...

actually anyone who brings up someone could have got killed in something like this and as a reason to use gustapo tactics should be shot. If you want to prevent everything that a person possibly could get killed from then you would have an assembly line shooting every baby that is born so they cant possibly cause the death of another st some point in their life.

Lots of my friends who went to OU spent their time stealing cigarettes, steaks, and mushrooms from the supermarkets. I don't think they ever locked anybody in a room. At night they went to bars, drank beer, and played foosball.
