Why doesn't someone want to step up and take the Traveling Basketball Program over? Mike and Tina have had this program for the last six years and are ready to turn it over. They have the girls and boys program. This year we have 2- 3rd and 4th grade girls teams and 1 5th and 6th grade girls team. 15 girls on the Cheerleading team. 3rd, 4th and 6th grade boys teams. They say this is there last year. If someone doesn't step up the youth in chaffee will not have a program. Everyone that is one the board this year is stepping down. We have to find a new board. All four spots.

I am glad to see them step down. Now they won't have to miss their sons games. About a week ago Tina got stuck at the door for about 3 hours because the parents that should have be there working "forgot".I am sorry but why put your kids on any team if you can't help out the program. It's not hard to take money at the door. or sell a drink or candy bar. You dont even have to get your hands dirty.

Maybe now that they are stepping down can actually get some parents that will coach ALL the kids instead of just their own or better yet ADULTS and not punk kids that are all about showing off instead of coaching. Last year they had a kid do it that was drunk or hung over at all of the games then they wonder why not as many kids are signing up. Then they charge admission to all the games to "pay the refs" then guess who the ref is yep you guessed it Mike himself.

As far as working the door Tina set up a schedule without consulting the parents. SHE decided the day and time everyone would work some of them actually have jobs and are working at the time she selected for them to work, what are they suppose to do give up actual wages to volunteer that makes no sense and other parents would have covered if she would have called them and asked.

Th program is good but it was time for them to step down just like with track they have run it in the ground so bad no one else is going to be willing to take on their mess but at least maybe unlike with track the new coordinators may get the equipment and money.

This year we had the most sign-ups that we have ever had here in Chaffee. Boys and girls. The punk kid that you talk about was picked by the parents. Mike had a grandfather that wanted to coach that used to be the head coach at Sikeston.Mike didn't have anything to do with that pick.
The sign-up fee the parents pay for each child doesn't cover everything. Yes, they have to charge at the gate. Just like Jr high and High school games. To cover the clock keeper, book keeper and refs. Most Jr high and High school refs make around $55 per game. Our program pays $25 per game. We can't always get refs to come here and work for that,Mike has his lisence. So yes at times when they can't find anyone, Mike refs.
As far as Tina setting up the schedule, if any of you have any problems, you should go to your coaches. Your coaches all had a meeting before the season started and ok'd Tina to hand out that schedule. If for any reason you couldn't work your time, you should have called your coach. That is what Mike asked you to do at the all program meeting he had. So everyone would be on the same page. Tina doesn't care who works as long as it gets covered. Anyone on the team can cover the time slots.Just please someone show up!!
Track program, Tina couldn't find anyone in Chaffee willing to take over the program. She gave all the track equipment to Darren, a parent from Oran. He was the coach last year. Taking over a mess? I don't think so. He has everything he needs to coach a track team. She gave him enough awards to have a full meet.
If you really feel Mike and Tina have run the program into the ground, step up. Call them! Put all your time where your mouth is. I am sure they will love to hear from you. Please call them today.

You know it is really sad you are getting on here talking about Mike and Tina. Your right they should step down. You people don't need any help do you. Before they started this basketball program the one here in Chaffee was soooo good. "The Elks" basketball league. Our kids learned so much playing the SAME team every week. Maybe you should just go back to it. That's a great idea isn't it? Because you will not find anyone that will put the time that they do for this program. I don't blame them for wanting to be done. They haven't has a child in this program for three years. Mike is coaching the 6th grade basketball team because he loves the game and beleaves in those boys. After they move up what is left? Shannon and Jennifer Henson? What a joke!! Jennifer has a child in the program and since the coaches voted on paying the book and clock keeper she thinks she should get paid for keeping her husbands book. From what I understand they have a board. I plan on going to the end of the season meeting so I know if I want to plan to sign up my child in Cape next year or play Elks ball. What a choice.

Mike and Tina where great! Thankyou for all of your time and energy put into helping our kids! If anyone is bashing they should be the first to step up to the plate! I think maybe they dont have half the skills you two did as parents and coaches! You will be missed!

My neice plays ball and although she has her complaints none of them from her or her mother have ever been about Mike or Tina. But since do have a family memember on a team I will tell a few things that know for a fact.

First the parents of the girls teams, or at least the 5th and 6th grade, where never asked about the opossibility of a retired coach coaching the team or the one they have doing it they found out who the coach was by a phone call anouncing when practice would be. While I personally do not agree with kids coaching kids he is a better choice than the coach they had last year however he needs to see that their is more than 2 or 3 girls on the team, forget about last names and work with them all.

Second a schedule was handed out to the parents of when they would work and they were told if they could not work it it was their responsibility to find someone to cover. The parents that skipped out should have been considerate enough to think of others but at the same time you have to remember not everyone works days and some of the parents do not know others to call. Not all of the coaches are cooperative on the matter either.

Third what does track have to do with basketball? Who cares what did or didn't happen there We are dealing with basketball right now.

Fourth my daughter played when it was all right here in town and she had fun, but when she started 7th grade no she didn't know a lot and neither will the girls that are playing now but most of that is due the the fact they all have an attitude and it is all about drama and socializing than learning the game.

Step up to the plate if you are so unhappy and do it yourself I know I couldn't deal with all the parents thinking their kid was a superstar all the time could you.

When your daughter played was it at the elem gym or at the high school? If was the Elem it was Mike and Chris Johnson that ran that program. If it was at the high school the elks ran that program.

Guy it is another KID even after the Johnsons said there would be no more KIDS coaching and he shouldn't be because we had ADULTS that had agreed to do it and as far as it being the parents choice for this kid to coach I would love to know what parents they talked to because I know of at least 5 that were never appraoched with options. Those girls will be playing for school next year and they DESERVED a coach that would actually work with them and teach them.

They are the same with every sport. All they do is yell at the kids and treat them like crap.

well from what I understand, Alex(which is 21 years old, not really a kid anymore) and one parent that did step up tp coach the 5th and 6th grade girls. Four or five parents told Mike that if that parent took the team they didn't want to sign their daughter up. Mike asked those same parents what they thought of Alex coaching and everyone was all for it. Alex was at sign-ups. Everyone knew who the coach was going to be. At the all program meeting you should have said something, this site will not solve any problems. Only makes those that might have wanted to take the program over now want nothing to do with it.

What now? NO GIRLS OR BOYS PROGRAM in Chaffee? Way to go people, way to take all this out on the kids.

If you or your daughters can't take Alex. I really feel sorry for you. Next year it's not going to be any better. Coach Moyers won't put up with them either. They think Alex makes them run now....just wait. Most of them do need to get in better shape. Next year Coach Moyers will help them with that!!

I think most of those girls would be better off the the parents would stay out of it. They him teach them!! Let them learn!!

As a parent I have seen the programs in chaffee for the past 15 years and you who are slamming the program that Mike and Tina have built have no idea the improvement they have made. I only wish they had shown up sooner. As for who the coaches are, they give up their free time to coach these kids because they care. If you care so much, I am sure there will be positions open next year, especially if you parents continue to moan about them. I say "thanks" to these coaches for taking the time out for these kids.

Shows what you know Moyers coaches HIGH SCHOOL not junior high girls and the problem is not with the running they need to run that is a BIG part of the game the deal with Alex is he threatens to throw one kid off the team for missing practice but two others miss almost everyone and NOTHING is said, they do not have to be at practice but guess what they start and then they screw up because they weren't there to learn the plays but instead of talking to them he blames a girl that is there and tries calling her out in front of the whole team for every little mistake she makes. There is good and bad in every coach out there but when dealing with little grama queens they need an adult that knows how to deal with them and not a kid that wants to show off for them. Sorry if that makes anyone mad but considering at least 3 adults did volunteer to take the team one of which WAS A COACH I think these girls got the short end of the stick. I will say Alex is better than what they had last year though at least he is sober.

HHMMMM I was at sign ups and was NEVER asked about Alex or anyone else coaching, was not even told who the coach would be for my daughter ONE parent was asked about it and only ONE and now they are the one encouraging their daughter to quit because she doesn't like to run maybe a parents meeting with ALL the parents would help and not just one.
Now as far as the team goes, my daughter happens to like Alex and even though we didn't know he was going to be the coach it doesn't really matter, do the girls run, no they trot down the court and call it running, they all need to take the conditioning a little more serious BUT at the same time Alex needs to understand he can not compare them to school teams that practice and condition on a daily basis when these girls do it twice a week and don't punish the entire team because a few want to whine and cry bench the ones who wont and encourage the ones that try.

Yes, all the Chaffee Youth Basketball coaches were at basketball sign-ups(except Dale)When I went to sign-up my daughter both Alex and his mother were there.Tina took care of sing-ups and the coaches answered any questions we parents had. I knew that Alex would be my daughters coach. I was and still am OK with it.

The "coach" from Sikeston stepped up before we ever had sign-ups. He planned on coaching. He would have been a good coach for the girls. You know used to girls drama nad knows the game. Michelle Cannon said her, her son Trevor and her nephew would take the team. I know this because Michelle told me.
