Went to park to check it out for my grandkids and Mayor Mike was mowing, had other places to be at and when I came back through and headed up Oak Street, saw he had finished mowing, but then he was mowng the big lot where he lives with the same mower, the zero radius mower that the park bought awhile back. Did anyone. else see him? Why was he using The city mower and gas?

The council and the mayor can just pass an ordinance that allows them to use city equipment at their house and then they can get a few lawns to mow .And why stop there, make an ordinance to let them use the city truck for their private transportation.

While you were at our city park checking it out for your grandkids, did you stop and thank Mayor Mike for his free service he provided for the city, saving taxpayer dollars? Did you thank him for taking time out of his day and mowing, which would keep the ticks and chiggers off your little grandkids while they play, and make our city park look nice? Did you check to find out the owner of the "big lot" that Mike was mowing? Did you then again stop and thank Mayor Mike for mowing a lot he dont even own or pay rent on, and doing something nice for one of our Sparta citizens?

Are you POSITIVE the park alone purchased that mower? Did you get out of your vehicle with a pen and paper, cross reference serial numbers of the citys mower and that mower to make sure that was the exact mower the city purchased? Are you positive beyond any doubt that Mike the Mayor didnt put in his own purchased fuel in the mower?

OR...... Are you poking your nose in someone elses business and trying to stir shit on something that absolutely does not pertain to you what so ever, or have ANY affect your life in any way, all because your life sucks so terribly bad and you have nothing better to do than search for even the most trivial dirt on our city leaders and post it on topix?

Jim Campbell,

You and Virginia Thompson have screwed this city up so bad over the last few years that 50 cents worth of gas should be the least of anybody's worry. The cities finances are so screwed up that the new council has to take extra time out of their already busy lives to have extra meetings just to sort out the financial mess the city is in. Maybe you should just move to Highlandville and worry about what goes on there since all of your businesses are there. Mike spent 4 hours the other day mowing park property. Something that Richard should be able to do. Then he may or may not have stopped by his house and took 20 minutes to mow his yard. Considering all of the actual things that Mike does and has done for the city, I wouldn't be too worried about him 1 time stopping by and mowing his own yard. Here's an important question: Where is the water tower that should have been built during your tenure on council? Better yet, where is the money that is supposed to be used for building the tower??? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

If Mike Younkers wants to spend four hours mowing the park on his own time and at no cost or charge to the city, I dont care if he uses the city mower EVERY week for a few minutes to zip over his own yard as he is on his way to take the mower back anyways. My girls love going to the city park and I appreciate the grass being cut.

If he is a Democrat then he is figuring out how to spend all of your towns money so he can whine and cry that the rich aren't paying their share and demand they pay more money for him to waste.

If he is a Republican he is figuring how out he can sell your town off to corporations and make personal profit at it.

Well, the Sparta Council meeting got mentioned in the paper for violating Sunshine Law .They not only discussed a new procedure about water bill adjustment in closed meeting ,they voted on it.Mayor Younker said they will repeat the vote(but not the discussion?) in open meeting.Great start and we are right back where we were 2 years ago with Mr The law does not apply to me Younker. Also a dishonorable mention in Donna Osborn's editorial.Gary Brady, please stand up for us!!!

Hey! Illogical Thinker, if you had been at the meetings you would know that the water tower is underway. Pay attention! Fact is, you don't use City equipment for your own personal use, no matter what you volunteer to do for the city. When you volunteer, it's not with the expectation of being compensated. If that's the case, everyone that has volunteered should expect to have their yard mowed or just go get the mower and now your yard, duh!

I, too, stopped by the city hall this (Thursday) morning. There was NO city meeting posted for 4/25/2013, in the case near the front door where they have always been posted. There was a city meeting agenda posted that had the date as TUESDAY, APRIL 23, 2013. Looked at it three times just to make sure I was reading it correctly as I wondered why they still had an old agenda posted two days after the event. If the date was posted incorrectly less than 24 hours before they held the meeting, then they VIOLATED THE SUNSHINE LAW AN HELD AN ILLEGAL MEETING. The mayor and the aldermen had to have been aware of the error. Where is the accountability of our elected officials????

2for 2,2meetings ,2 sunshine law violations in one week.Younker told the newspaper his first violation was an accident.Seems to me he is doing this habitually.Time for the Attorney General to hear about this.A word to the aldermen:If the city is found guilty of violating sunshine law not only the mayor but also each alderman who participated in the unposted meeting can be fined $1000.00.Two meetings $2000.00 each.
