There are 47 comments on the www.whittierdailynews.com story from Aug 31, 2013, titled Montebello Councilmember Asks for Stop on use of Social Media During Meetings. In it, www.whittierdailynews.com reports that:

There may be a time for using social media, but city council members should lay off during their meetings, said Montebello Councilman Art Barajas at Wednesday's meeting.

“I would remind my colleagues out of respect for the audience that we ought to turn off our cellphones,” Barajas said. “It doesn’t look very professional,” he said. “I make a promise to the community that this councilman will stop the use of that. You will have my 100 percent attention.”

I'm sure that Bill will cooperate with Art 100%.

Finally someone is giving the meeting attendees and home viewers the respect they deserve. I wondered when this disrespect would stop!

Respect? Cristina Cortez has been disrespecting the home viewers, the audience at council meetings, her colleagues, and staff since elected. What a huge disgrace. Get this chick out! A few more months before her term as mayor is over. She, Art, and Bill are major reasons term limits are needed in this city. Wait, they are major reasons why some people should not run for office.

OMG - good call however Christina was just re-elected and is not running this November.
See who she supports.
Let's see about your other point
Art and Bill are running.
No harm- no foul.
You want real problems get three of Jack's chums elected.
Maybe even three of Christina's depending on who they are.
Given those choices Montebello is better off With Bill and Art.
They are not going to rob the city blind, do nepotism and insider deals for their friends like Wu and the Board of Realtors self interest schemes.
Who for the third spot?

Termed out; open your eyes. Cortez is running...for control of the council. If her boys Gallarzo and Hernandez get in all hell will break loose. Hadjinian can't get his three votes this to around and may never; he has his problems tied to Noguez. Art has no backbone and Molinari is slowly falling asleep too much at the wheel. Still, he know where the bodies are buried and can manipulate a few people now and then. Big worry here is Cortez and the dirt she brings to the table. Police and fire are problems from the PERS standpoint reason for going county on the latter. Staff is running scared fearful of who will get the axe if Cortez gets her new gang of three in. Second coming of Rosie Vasquez.

Looks like OMG nailed it
Candidate Vivian Romero is Councilmember Hadjinian's appointee to one of the city's commissions
Is he behind Anna Arriola also, where does she stand?
Where would Hadjinian get three votes?

Christina has openly shown support for Emma Delgado
Are Gallarzo and Hernandez in her sphere of influence also?
City Clerk Daniel Hernandez has won a Citywide election against a possibly superior candidate, he could run on his own he does not need Christina.
Ditto with the school Principal Hernandez or is he unprincipled?
Christina could be counterproductive
Molinari has much more support than any of the above and coattails for Barajas.
Seen any glossy mailers yet, who paid for them.
Seen any of Chris Robles handiwork?(does not come free)
Are you kidding

Arriola has no chance. Delgado is Cortez's third candidate. She has little chance but people said Cristina Garcia did too and we all know where that ended up. Gallarzo and Hernandez are weak and will bow to Cortez. Molinari sees writing on wall as old white Montebello voters that have supported him in past are dying off. He is nervous. Barajas is most nervous of me all as he lacks education and scruples. Has shown lack of backbone while on council. This election will be a nail biter.

Some good analysis posted above.
Barajas lacks scruples? how so?
Rosie, Kathy were very "smart" but lacked scruples as did a long list of previous councilpersons.
Some were corrupt and their results disastrous.
The Ostrom Chevrolet and Sevacherian deals for examples
Giving raises when income was dropping.
Blowing all the publics money with nothing to show for it.
Allowing or not noticing a million dollars a year in illegal (not concil approved as required by code)over budget overtime.
Does Hadjinian have any?
Christina?

Christina Cortez was no re-elected...she is serving her term...so no need for her to run. However, she is campaigning for three individuals who are running; current City Clerk, Daniel Hernandez, Parks & Rec Commissioner, Flavio Gallarzo and Emma Delgado. If you want to see the city go bankrupt...vote for those three and you have a quorum.

Art Barajas has no backbone and is always texting and social networking on the dais. Funny that he made a big stink about it. A lot of what Bill says, I find no issues, however what he does is up for debate.

Who appointed Gallarzo to parks and rec?
has he any record there?
How's Hernandez doing as clerk?
Christina was first elected at the recall Feb 2010 and ran for re election in 2011

It is not unusual for first time councilmen to be quiet while they learn the ropes
Christina is the exception

PoliSci is insightful. TT bend your ears and take heart. It's apparent you have a soft spot for good OLD Bill and little drummer boy Barajas yet both bring little to the table. Nether should be on the council. Bets are Art will go down like the Hindenburg. Bigger problem is crazy Cortez getting a few more votes on the council. City is already a disaster; it will be like after the Sylmar earthquake then. Dept heads will roll, sweetheart deals will be the norm, and the city will become the Bell of the noth. This girl is a mental case.

Are you kidding suggests that Art brings little to the table
That's a good thing
The only way to bring something to the table is to put the city further in hock.
BTW how is the City going to pay the loans coming due since Rosie trashed the credit rating?
Christina brings lots to the table
that could be a bad thing
Hadjanian has way too much baggage, questionable "friends" and an agenda and supporters with agendas that are not in the best interests of the City- hard to say no.
most definitely a bad thing
TT has no soft spot for Bill, just thinks he's harmless and that he and art are the lesser of the evils running for council.
The City is a disaster caused by the gang of three and other previous councils.
Councils where Bill was not in a majority.
Hadjanian is more of a risk than crazy Cortez.
Better funded backers that want projects in the city.
Ground broken on a new Jimmy's replacement yet?

Molinari harmless? Laughable if it wasn't so out-of-touch. Molinari doesn't need a majority. He rules by fiat and with an iron fist behind the scenes. Bank on it.

Very astute
I always enjoyed the way Bill told Rosie, Kathy and the Felon which way to jump and how high.
Frustrating times for Bill, for the City Manager who started acting like Major Major, finally even for Arnold.
Randy came in and made all the difference in the world very quickly, revealing the fraud and embezzlement of the gang of three.

Let's get over it.
a few People want to move "Montebello Foreword", unfortunately their foreword is further backward.
Problem is that the future was stolen and mortgaged, and encumbered.
City is going to be paying off the loans and bad deals for 30 years.
No money for development, raises, staff, new water system, potholes, tree trimming, ball fields in Whittier Narrows, etc.
Get over it.
The only way to raise cash flow is new taxes or cutting public safety.(The Dillinger method- that's where the money is)
Go ahead and make a proposal.
Ask the candidates what their plans and proposals are.
