Because it is only the same people who put in for the award every year. Practically anyone who puts in for it is given some type of award. I say practically because I'm not certain if everyone gets it, but everyone I know who has submitted the paper work has gotten it. It's a feel good thing for the city, but does nothing for home values. Truly, some of the beautification houses are really ugly. Beautification award winner is not a selling point in my book. It's just normal for people to take care and maintain their homes. If it motivates some, swell, but it's whoever puts their name in the hat, and it's all the same people. Nothing new here.

I was a judge a couple of years ago. They get city groups to drive around different sections of the city and judge EVERY home. You do not put your name in to be judged. Every home is judged.

Like i said before Big Bob, I am a judge and i pick my friends to win. You think i am joking but i am not. When they sell their house they can claim that their house won. Where have you been.

Sorry, but in my neighborshood it has been the same houses for years that keep winning. There are some really nice homes that have improved alot and have never received the award. And two different houses in my area have received the award yet there is nothing that they have done to deserve it. Like most of the houses they need paint, new windows and new landscape yet they win....go figure. It's like anything else it is who you know and that is how life is.

I've seen the information in the LM living magazine that if you want your house considered for the Beautification Award to contact city hall for some paperwork. It can't be that people just drive around.

Is Big Bob so naïve to believe that the LM Beatification is about criteria? Please, the same houses and the same group of friends win every year. This is a waist of out tax dollars and time. Look at some of the dumps that win, you would have to be on crack to not realize that it is fixed. Wake up!!!!

You are wrong! The do drive around, they drive around to their friends houses and award them the exclusive Beautification award.

Judges do drive around, and it has never been advertised in the LM Magazine. Judges are from La Mirada service organizations. If you do not believe this, call the Community Services department for clarification.

Every year there are those that get upset because they do not win. These people are so malicious that they went so far as to vandalize signs the City use to give the winners for their front yards a few years back.

Who really cares about that award? It's not like you get any incentives or monies if you win. We live in Hillsborough and one of the associations board members got that award on his crappy looking front yard, so we all know there are some politics involved.

I've been an agent for 12 years and have never even had a buyer care about an award. The sellers sometimes think a few flowers makes their house worth 10,000 more than it is, which is a pain to deal with. Every offer below asking price I would hear the same thing 'but I won a beautification award' Like $ 200 dollars in flowers makes your house worth anymore in an appraisers eyes....

and yes, it really is the same people. Only a handful of people put in for it and they all know eachother. If you want one and didn't get one, just go to Office Depot and have them print one for you for 30 bucks and call it what ever you want.

I just looked and there are actually 2 adresses in the Hillsborough area I drive by every day which won. There is nothing but grass and a couple of green bushes in their front yard. Absolutely nothing beautiful or outstanding, I know that one of them work for the school district and the other in youth sports as an ex president I think. Oh well, let them choke on their award.
