The long beach park rangers are a persistent problem in the city of long beach. They have more citizen complaint files than any other service in long beach, they harass and bully little kids for playing ball in the park, they are rude, pushy. The long beach police dept refers to the park rangers as cowboys with guns! Thank god if park ranger Carlos Ortez and his loony side kick in stupidity park ranger Mario are cut from the payroll. We dont need park rangers the police can do a much better job.

The Park Rangers have had their share of screw ups but the L.B Police have done a lot worse. Sine the death of the Park Ranger Chief the Park Rangers have been taken over by the PD. The PD wants to make the Rangers weaker and eventually take their Peace Officer status. The numbers game is a joke how can you justify a unit of 3 to 5 officers to cover parks in a city as large as LB and parks that are always open to the public. The city of LB states that they will not make financial cuts that affect public safety that is crap. They only care about the Police and Fire Dept. Everyone seems to forget about the Special Officers in LB who work 24/7 to protect the community and property of this city. Special Officers are armed, trained and assigned as Detention Officers (transport unit),Marine Patrol,Harbor Patrol, Airport Bureau and LB City college. That is over 140 officers and an additional 300 plus non armed uniformed public safety officers. Yet whenever its time for union negotiations for a pay increase the only ones who get more are the fat, dumb and happy upper managment, Fire and Police. If you own a home in Long Beach or live in Long Beach I feel for you this city is falling apart fast under the lack of leadership of Foster and his lackies. He will not be and should not be re-elected he is a fat jerk who eats pizza everyday and treats his employees like crap.

Leo, I feel your pain and agree LB is and has been poorly governed..However, what's wrong with eating pizza...Can't we just leave that one out...makes me feel like I'm contributing to the problem!

I say we cut the police officer ranks by 60% plus and then give all residents concealed weapons permits to fight crime and protect themselves. The only things the police will do is traffic enforcement and leave the rest to the residents. I can assure u it would be a safer place here in long beach.

It is a fact that states with CCW have less crime. The obvious is that mass shooting would be eliminated or less people killed if the victims had not been denied their 2nd Amendment right and could have defended themselves or others. There would probably be fewer criminals to arrest and jail...saves tax dollars..But then liberal judges and biased lawyers have been known to criminalize self defense.

All that is happening now is the public security is being slowly turned over to the whims of the criminals...

Without rangers our parks would turn into a major crime zone because LBPD certainly don't patrol these areas.

Not Southern California cowboys! They carry feather pillows (the feathers taken humanely from free-range chickens raised on organically-grown pesticide-free grain), ride politically correct bicycles in order to reduce the carbon footprint and reduce global warming, and they wear 100% cotton clothing made from recycled materials. Instead of leather cowboy boots they wear politically correctsandals made from 100% recycled tires, thus reducing the carbon footprint even more. And rather than raise animals for food, they raise them as pets and buy their vegan food at the health food store. As if any of this crap made any difference.

So if they cut rangers, I'd need to buy my own gun to protect my children from druggies, drunks and predators? Or going to a park would become a luxury that only those who can hire bodyguards can afford. Shame shame.

The park rangers are nothin but thugs!!! Park ranger Carlos Ortiz has a disorderly conduct file that is thicker than Websters dictionary, he is a liability to the city and should have been fired eons ago.

WHAT??? Elliminate Park Ranger, take alway their power to arrest? Is the City of long Beach For real? I was a Harbor Patrol Officer in the Port of Long Beach for 14 years, before that I was a Police officer for the State of California. Now they want to allow the gangs to take over your Parks? I now live in Colorado where getting a CCW permit is as hard as getting a Drivers permit, and our County Park Rangers are Peace Officers and deputized by the Sheriff, as are our Campus Police. Maybe Long Beach should go back to contracting out these duties to the LACO Sheriff...do you really want that???

OK, you're not a fan of "Carlos Ortiz" and that makes all park rangers thugs???? Where's logic in that?

It sounds to me like Mr. Ortiz has a law suit against some blogers. He is a public employee he has rights and the public as his employer they have to uphold those rights or pay out it is all that simple.

Carlos Ortiz has been written up more times for illegal and bad behavior against citizens of long beach than any other park ranger. The city is covering up for him big time! the man who handles complaints against police, fire dept and other public service personel has said time and time again how often he has to file complaints against Mr Ortiz, more times than any other person. Mr Ortiz is a liability for the city of long beach.
Gene, just curious, where do you get your information? And from whom?

Personnel files are confidential, access can only be obtained through a court order, following a court hearing to show cause. And the motion can only be granted as it pertains to a specific case.

You say "the man" who handles complaints against police, fire... told you that...

Gene, there is NO "the man". Any police or park ranger supervisor can take a complaint, as can any Internal Affairs Investigator.

Oh, and Gene... the Police Department doesn't handle personnel complaints involving the Fire Department.

I'm curious, what exactly is a Park Rangers job? I have spent to many hours at Stearns & Whaley over the past 10 years to count...and I've yet to see them do anything, but harass the homeless.

I wouldn't trade them for some L.A. park rangers. That would be ruinous.

Park ranger Carlos Ortiz needs to be re- assigned to do poo-poo clean up at the long beach dog park. Mr Ortiz is known to be a dog hater.

While I am sure you are an expert on most anything you speak on, it is a shame to see someone be so certain... and so wrong.

The Long Beach Police Department's, Internal Affairs does investigate allegations of police misconduct(including Park Rangers)... they do not investigate any personnel complaints regarding Fire Department employees.

I know it's a small detail, but when added to your other prevarications, it essentially makes your entire diatribe suspect.

Personnel issues ARE NOT discussed with the public. And only with other supervisors if it's determined they have a need to know.

A word to the wise, in the future if you have a complaint, don't oversell it. Padding it with falsehoods destroys any credibility you started out with.
