Stalker case leads to lawsuit against St. Bruno, principal and archdiocese

Feb 22, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Whittier Daily News

The stalker of the principal of St. Bruno School made reservations for a wedding at the parish, with an extravagant Hawaiian style lei and a photographer in an attempt to lure the principal into a fake ceremony, according to a lawsuit filed against the school, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the school principal.

What do my fellow parents (past, present and future) think of Saint Bruno's Father Reardon and Ms. Carvalho adherence to Canon Law Title III: Catholic Education?

TITLE III: CATHOLIC EDUCATION (Cann. 793 - 821)

Can. 793 1 Parents, and those who take their place, have both the obligation and the right to educate their children. Catholic parents have also the duty and the right to choose those means and institutes which, in their local circumstances, can best promote the catholic education of their children.

2 Parents have moreover the right to avail themselves of that assistance from civil society which they need to provide a catholic education for their children.

Can. 794 1 The Church has in a special way the duty and the right of educating, for it has a divine mission of helping all to arrive at the fullness of christian life.

2 Pastors of souls have the duty of making all possible arrangements so that all the faithful may avail themselves of a catholic education.

Can. 795 Education must pay regard to the formation of the whole person, so that all may attain their eternal destiny and at the same time promote the common good of society. Children and young persons are therefore to be cared for in such a way that their physical, moral and intellectual talents may develop in a harmonious manner, so that they may attain a greater sense of responsibility and a right use of freedom, and be formed to take an active part in social life.

You are not the new St. Bruno. A new parent would be happy their children attend St. Bruno. Give it a rest and get a life. Leave St, Bruno alone!

As a total outsider you seem to speak quite a bit on behalf of the anti-Bruno's parents. Here are the facts. Ms. Carvalho came into a school and started making positve changes. The faculty immideatly had problems with it and then began spreading negivitve talk about her. Then the stalker scandal happens which ends up to be a lot of nothing, but enough to fuel people's fires for a while. Nothing comes out of the whole stalker thing, and positive change continues to be made at the school. However the faculty is not open to the the change, and now knows how many people dislike Ms. Carvalho due to the stalker non situation. Basically all the parents that have left are upset because they along with the faculty have lost thier sense of entitlement. So many people have walked around that school for years, parents and teachers, acting like they owned the place. Now that their is a new sheriff in town calling the shots and making changes these people can't hang. That's what you see on this blog all of the nasty true colors of these parents that feel that they have lost entitlement to a school.
The "B's" and the "E's" are calling the shots. The principal can't lead. The old are still running the school and continue to ruin it

I thought I was the only one who realized there are a few families running the school.

From the parish center to major fundraisers to school boards to committees to teachers to daycare and sports. The same few families are involved one way or another. That includes their close friends

I'm not saying they are bad people I just think it's funny that the subject keeps coming up that the bad parents who tried to run the school are now gone. The truth is the parents are now truly running the school.

Does anyone else find that funny?

Stop being so vindictive by your comments. Why can't you past parents just move on and give us peace. That's all we are asking. Go enjoy your children's new school and let us start a new year free of drama. You people are so juvenile. Just leave already!

I didn't mean to strike a nerve. I meant funny as in ironic.
I apologize if I brought up a sensitive issue.

My concern is with the administration and honesty.

I'm just finding it ironic that there are some people blaming parents trying to run the school as being the issue.

Currently there are several family members of a select few families currently running the school.......so how could this be an issue?

Do you see how silly that sounds?

Again, I apologize if you felt attacked. It was merely an observation of smoke and mirrors.

The most annoying part of all this is that many families who left actually didn't run the school. A lot of us were in the dark and communication was terrible. There was NO communication then and now. You find things out through each other. And this principal would want to know who asked what and if she was being targeted then she makes sure you were on her "hit list". It's impossible for over 200 families to come together and just leave. All families with different age children were the victims. The stalker was not the number 1 issue here anymore! The families who are big supporters of this new school are far from positive. My kids don't go here anymore but we still go to church and you guys make us feel not welcome! This is still my church and my community... This is a place you cannot drive us from!

I agree with you. The supporters on this blog seem to think most of the parents who pulled their kids did it because they couldn't "rule" the school anymore. That is just nonsense. My children were excellent students and we always followed all the rules. We NEVER caused any problems and were always supportive of the school. That's why this is so sad. As far as attending mass at St. Bruno...we have decided to join another parish. Church, like school, should be a place one should always feel welcome. Sadly, St Bruno has let us down.

It's sad to see all these comments from disgruntled parents. But like anything there are always two sides to every story. And one could argue that the very parents that choose to leave St. Bruno's are the same parents causing more drama than being positive. To all of you, remember this, the grass isn't greener everywhere else. There are very similar if not worse problems at every one of the local catholic schools in the Whittier and la Mirada area. I personally know that the schools in La Mirada where most of these parents leaving st Bruno's are headed is worse off than st Bruno's .... It's only a matter of time when they realize that they're worse off..... Good luck ...

So being positive is telling people they are worse off?

Most of the kids did not go to one particular school. The kids are like refugees finding there way to better places.

Heights Christian
St. Gregory's
Granada
East Whittier
St. Angela's
St. Paul of the Cross
St. Mark's
Beatitudes

Some as far away as Long Beach and other surrounding schools.

There are too many children that have been displaced so a majority are not going to any one particular school.

This is very hard on these children but it had to be done. Educated parent's were willing to make the sacrifice and change school's. Contrary to popular belief some pulled them out in the middle of the school year.

Parent's that made the decision to pull their children are child psychologists, attorneys, principals, probation officers, in law enforcement, counselors, etc. Troublemakers?

We're simply saying that parent's should do their research. A parent who does their research will find the truth and you won't have to worry about the two sides.....just the truth.

Why can't you encourage research? What are you hiding?

I encourage research but keep in mind that most if not all the comments here show a bias. To a new parent and family going to St Bruno's will not have any bitter taste of what everyone here is mentioning. To a new family maybe they only see the positive and perhaps they too are refugees from one of those schools you mention on your list. We as adults speak from experience when we say that there are always two sides to a story. Therefore nothing is at it seems until you find out for yourself hence my warnings that if you feel there are problems at st Bruno's for you, and those problems force you to have to post your feelings on a blog, perhaps keep those problems to yourself and allow those to place their own judgement of st Bruno's free from pre conceived notions.

As far as law enforcement officers, school psycohokgirst etc that doesn't make you or any of those people a better person or parent just because you have a title .... It's that very statement of entitlement that proves to me right there that you're one of the problems and that perhaps you feel wronged somehow because you felt that you deserved to be heard or treated better. Be the bigger person despite your title and turn the cheek leave quietly and be a better example to your children rather than contribute negative personal biased feelings . Keep in mind there are still a lot of very educated and good parents still attending the school who don't buy in to the drama that people continue to bring forth. It's about being positive and more importantly it's time to think about the kids and families still attending st Bruno's because they believe that's the best choice for them and their children. No one here has the right to predict nor preach about how bad things are or going to be without truly knowing the future or having a crystal ball.

Stay positive and live a better life.

Communication is key... We don't need to be chasing someone around for answers, it should be given especially when we are investing on education on our most valuable possessions... It's really not clear at all to you and people who think like you. Again, this is an open forum. You don't need a password or code to be here. Its not like the front door of the school. If new families want to get there info here, so be it! But I know for a fact that there is no one giving any info on St. Bruno's goings on, this principal will sit you down and sugar coat it all. I've sat with her and its really pathetic. You cant even get a word out, shes excited about new stuff at the school... i sit there think, are you serious? how can you be smiling at me when this place is like a cemetery. If you are the Burges, the Doves, and people who spend loads of there time helping run the school. am i going too far or are these pretty much on point?! These are people who are getting something for free, this info is not new. Many people know this. In all the years, that school office has been an open door policy. That open door policy is only given to the few. This is the fact.

By you commenting and attacking people by name negates every point you wanted to make. It is completely ininappropriate for you to write names, as it is against the site rules, but more than that, it's unethical and un-Christian. Those families have been wonderful examples of Catholicism and St. Bruno is lucky to have them VOLUNTEERING many hours of their personal time. They get nothing out of it except making the school better school environment for their children. One family has a niece. Their children are long gone but they continue to support the church and school selflessly. Stop being so vindictive and spreading blantent lies. Oh, by the way, this is not one if these wonderful people you named. Im a current parent who is thankful to both of these families. Please stop spreading your cancer on this site or anywhere for that matter. You need many prayers for happiness.

I've been telling people supporting the principal this same thing and they won't stop. I guess someone just got frustrated and reciprocated.

You do need to know that there is financial compensation when volunteering for certain fundraisers. Coaches also get a stipend for their time. If a person running a fundraiser does not have a kid at the school any longer the financial compensation will be sent as tuition payment to the high school their child attends .

You should probably check with your board for details.

That's exactly correct! It's ok for those supporters to do it, but as soon as its done to them, it's " over the line, unethical, in-Christian." Hippocrates!
