Instead of bleeding the city emergency services of RB, why doesn't our dear mayor and the city council stop spending money and make better decisions than to hurt those who protect us!!!!

I'm one of the people who fell victim to Woetko's scam. I was planning to travel from the Santa Cruz area specifically to hear the Skyliners - the rest of the bill was icing on the cake. I purchased tickets immediately when I heard about the show, and, after numerous emails and phone calls to Tom Woetko, have still not received any reimbursement. The only satisfaction I have is that he's currently locked up.

Besides losing the ticket money, I also lost the deposit on a hotel room. To say I'm angry is an understatement. Hopefully law enforcement officials in Redondo Beach will take the initiative and charge Woetko with theft and other appropriate offenses. I will gladly come there to testify against Woetko.

There is a crook born every minute. It sounds like he may have had no intention of putting on this concert. At first, before I read about his record I thought that maybe he over shot his wad of money to finance this concert. Live and learn, if you don't learn you aren't living. We always figure this sort of thing happens to others. We trust because majority of promoters are honest.

Kaminsky did not help found the So. Cal. Doo Wop Society. He came along later, though he did associate with some of the originators. Basically, he's a super fan.

He's a man who has trouble piecing together a legible sentence and that very Kaminsky got reimbursed for his "promotional" work. What's his agenda? How did he earn the $$$ that people like me who ordered several expensive tix is still owed?

Based on the story, it appears like Kaminsky was one of the people who shared in the take. Why didn't the reporter question that?

Why no mention that Brian Bierne, "Mr. Rock & Roll" (ret.) of KRTH was booked as the emcee?

All in all, disappointing story.

The City of Redondo Beach has some questions to answer regarding how this could happen. The cultural arts manager or whoever's responsibility it is to manage that place was derelict in their duties to not have a signed contract in place well before the event was to take place. Also, it is unimaginable that they allowed that property to be booked with only a $100 deposit! Heck, I think the City charges residents more than that just to borrow one of their barbques for block parties. No wonder the place is losing money.

Marvin Kaminsky most certainly was one of three people who helped found the Doo Wop Society. He has never taken a cent. His heart is in the music, and he's been info central for this entire debacle.

INcidentally, if it's "piceing together an entire sentence" that irks you, check the spelling of Brian Beirne's last name. We all got rooked, and Marvin was not a part of this. Thank you for having written the story. If anyone's to blame--and someone is--it's the crook who ripped us off--not to mention the number of artists who were prevented from booking a legitimate date at the same time.

There are alot of Peter Noone fans that are not too happy with Tommy. There was a show in Bloomington, Ill, that was cancelled. At least we know he is locked up. Now how do we get TBA to throw away the key?

Tommy did the same thing for a concert in Illinois. Nobody has received refunds.
checks were payable to him and he kept saying refunds were in the mail.
i am calling new jersey attorney general's consumer office and filing a complaint so hopefully they will close him down before he can do it again.

I was one of the entertainers booked for the Milwaukee show back in Sept. Tommy is thee bigest scam artist there is, his brother is a close second.

Please, everyone that took any kind of beating from Tommy (who has web sites on my space under The Malt Shoppe of Memories) you need to get on our list. WE need to get as many people joining us to get a class action suite against him. get in touch with me at dannyjmyspace at my yahoo E-mail address and we'll see your information is added to our growing list.

The Skyliners will be coming back to your areas, as will all of the other fine groups. Please do not allow this felon to detour you from attending future shows. All of the groups are standing up together for you fine fans, because you stand up for us. Future shows are being looked at with great care so that this will never happen again.

Thank you all for responding, and I have to say Mavin Kaminsky is doing so much to assist in putting this guy away for everyone, as is Patti in the Redondo Beach area and Nita in Chicago. He did the same thing in many other states as well. I'm still working on the balance of the other states.

One thing you can do to help is to go on myspace and look to see if any groups still have him on their web sites. Contact those groups, tell them what a crook he is and ask them to get rid of his add on there.

Sincerely,

Danny J

Who ever is setting policy for the theater is crazy in regards to allowing only a $100 deposit & no signed contract. This allows crooks to pull these types of scams. Even non crooked promoters are allowed to speculate with the the theaters' time & labor. Is the city in the business of gambling in the entertainment industry?
I hate seeing this because it leads to cities' closing down civic theaters due to "mismanagement" (by the city itself).
At the theater I work at a this type of show would have had a $500 deposit (nr) to hold the date and a $5000 non refundable deposit with a signed contract 30 days before the event. The theater would get %10 of the total ticket sales with the $5500 applied to that total (i.e. if sales are $40,000 the promoter is out $5500, if sales are $75000 then the theater gets a total of $7500 from the show.) This is normal standard practice in the industry. It helps keep promoters without money and other losers from screwing over the public.<->

This type of action needs to be addressed quickly and taken out as quickly as possible. There are many other people that want to put on small or large shows that this effects. People that want to see these types of shows will be gun shy of putting up money early to help the people putting on the show for fear that they too may be taken advantage of. I am please that we all pulled together to see that Tommy's days have ended. None of use that enjoy this kind of music are getting any younger, and we want to continue to support those that put in the time to continue to bring these shows to you.
Five Star Productions Plus is a Southern California group that try to put on at least 4 shows a year for the locals. We dance, eat, drink and enjoy seeing our friends and listening to the music we were brought up on. Please support us. None of our board takes a single dime from our efforts, but on the other hand we put our hearts and soul into our shows.
