you are completely wrong, even in the most controlled situation accidents happen. Keeping things "up high" doesn't prevent this sort of tragedy. She will never get her baby girl back and you want to go an judge her in her time of grief, as if she doesn't hate herself enough for not preventing this.

You can blame guns all you want and irresponsible parents. It is simply a horrible tragedy and in all cases yes it could have been avoided, if you knew it was going to happen but you can shoot yourself as easy as stab yourself or choke or anything else at that age, so what, have no knives in the house to cut your food? No objects that are small enough to fit in your mouth? This is a situation where the parents were not paying attention and it happened, anything can happen when you are not paying attention, it is simply a horrible tragedy and instead of judging the parents and placing blame or saying that guns are the cause of the situation, we should grieve with the parents and show people our support when tragedies like this occur. I know there are alway situations that have different circumstances, drugs, abuse, negligence, etc. but unless that is evident, it shouldn't be assumed.

There are these cool safety locks for guns that actually lock around the grip and the trigger. You can get them with a built-in combo lock or one that needs a key. I have tried to break them, empty of course, I was met with success... but I used a sledge hammer and a saws-all- I was very tired from trying to brute force it before then. I imagine that it is hared to break open with a gun in there- I am not going to test. I don't own a gun, my dad bought one for his gun when I was 15 before he got a lock box for it. I was curious about how effective it was, so he gave it to me and I went to town.

You will note if you read the article that there was stolen property, Meth, and ingrediants for making Meth in the home. I am sorry if people don't like hearing this but, the type of people who keep and make Meth in their homes don't care about their children like other do, this was clearly an irresponsible home with little value for right and wrong and they ARE to blame for this child's death, like I said, I am sorry if that sounds harsh and insensitive but this was not an avoidable accident, this was thieving addicts who probably only had that child in order to receive a check from AFDC. It is very possible to have a gun and children in a home and avoid this type of thing, it is called being a responsible, cautious parent and handgun owner. Everyone is busy saying how bad crime is and that the police do not do enough, well some people actually have guns to PROTECT their families, those people know how to protect them from the guns as well because the gun is there for protection of the family in the first place, not there to protect their almighty METH.

All of you have sumthing different to say and who knows.. all of you mite b rite. but as far as we know it happened and theres nuthing else we can do about it. I feel sorry for the kid and parents should be careful about those kinds of things. whether or not they did meth we don't know but sumthing needs to b dun so that things like this don't happen again.

It's a good bet that if there was Meth and ingredients for making Meth in the house (which the article states, police found these items) then they were most likely doing Meth.

OH MY GOD!!! There is noway around it or through it. THEY WERE MAKING,SELLING AND DOING METH.They had the gun to protect there meth from being stolen. They weren't worried about the baby.They probably forgot that the baby was even there.

You people can talk all you want about not having a gun in your home, or locking it up....unloading it....bla bla bla. But realy when you are talking about people that have stolen property, guns, methamphetamine and materials to make the drug inside their home they really dont have the best interest of their children in mind, do they?
The laws and Common sense that apply to the rest of us don’t even come into play with people like that. And don’t get all high and mighty on me about judging them……I don’t need to judge them. But fact are fact! That little baby girl did not even have a chance at a decent life with parents like that!

It's impossible to feel sorry for people who basically killed their own child.
And as callous as this sounds, with parents like that, it probably wasn’t the worst thing that could have happened to the child.
At least the 2 month old brother is being removed from the home; and hopefully never returned.

Now true justice would be the bitch being spayed and the bastard neutered so they can’t produce any other offspring.
