Does anyone know anything about Advantage Computer Services located on Sudley Road in Manassas?

I'd like to know what your opinion is of that place - did you like it, did you hate it?

Over maybe 10 years, I have bought maybe a hundred plus items from them and I have always was pleased. Ken is very knowledgeable about what performs and what doesn't and where best to spend your dollar. HIGHLY recommended.

I've purchased about my last 5 computers from Ken. Sometimes his attitude puts me off - but he puts together some great hardware!

Bought a used laptop there and it stopped working a week later. They would not take it as a return. Ended up trading it in at another shop for credit towards an inexpensive, brand new Acer laptop.

I have been using Advantage Computer in Manassas for twelve years. I have had them build, repair and update 8 computers for me and am 100% satisfied. They are friendly, knowledgable and they don't give up. The staff has found timely solutions to all my computer problems both with hardware and software. They are a real Advantage to me.

I have used ACS for over 4 years and I think Ken is a great guy. His knowledge for the computer industry is excellent. He knows his stuff and is up to date on all the latest video cards. I won't go anywhere else.

I will never use them again and would not recommend them. Their customer service needs significant improvement. I brought in my laptop and not only did they have it for a month before I decided to just give up and fix it myself, I got it back with missing screws, missing internal pieces (including my MODEM), AND with a different keyboard than I brought it in with (which was in worse condition than my original AND had nothing to do with the issue I brought it in for).

I just discovered that in ADDITION to all of the above ... my hard drive connector (where the hard drive connects to the motherboard) is MISSING. They didnt put it back in. Which means, when you boot up the computer (now that I've fixed it myself) it can't boot up because it doesnt see a hard drive BECAUSE ITS NOT CONNECTED!!

I took my 2 computers into this store to get the screen and motherboards swapped out.
I didn't explain it correctly the first time.
Ken fixed it, listened to me when I noted that we had had a failure to communicate and fixed it again in record time.
I will send anyone that needs excellent hardware repair to this guy, even though my husband's a geek.

I'm the one that started this thread, obviously. The reason I did so is because I think they (Ken) lied about my grandmother's computer.

The computer is a Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM running Win XP. It was running extremely slow as in taking 10-20 minutes just to open a folder. My first thought was that it was infected with spyware/malware. I ran several scans including online scans and scans in Safe Mode as well as a rootkit scan. I found and removed a few pieces of spyware that weren't any big deal. Certainly nothing that would cause it to run that slow. I asked for help in a tech forum that deals primarily with spyware infections. I followed their instructions and still found no spyware or viruses.

My grandmother decided to take the computer to Advantage Computer Services. They (Ken) tells her it's full of spyware, reformats her hard drive, and installed a second hard drive for backup. I am 95% certain that the computer did not have spyware/malware/viruses. I say 95% because I have no "official" computer training and rely only on the knowledge that I've picked up "here and there" over the years.

But I just don't trust Advantage or Ken. My gut instinct is that he was lying. Of course, there's no proof either way. I suspect the actual problem was a corrupted user profile.

I am sorry that you feel the way you do. Let me explain a few things about virus, malware, removal etc. Once you are infected Most if not all removal software will not see or remove the infections, Definitely not get all of it. We have technics and software to get the job done. If you call me I will gladly go over the repair with you and see if I could help clear up and misunderstanding that you have, if there are any? As for starting this post thanks it looks like we have a lot of fans out there. I promise to keep on helping and trying the best we can for all those who come threw our doors!!! Don't forget we have a google coupon for $25.00 of repair. Once again Thanks alot.

So glad I decided to check out Advantage Computers. My computer crashed and I thought my data was gone forever! Thanks to the owner he was able to recover it all, I couldn't be more grateful just because of the fact I had all my school work on there. I would recommend this place for anyone's computer needs!
